SameerVermani, My 8year old son Cough

Sameer,

I am so grateful for all the healing I have experienced through homeopathy. I am hoping that you can help guide me in my sons case.

I originally posted for him under 'My 6 year old son coughing', and made good progress with Tuberculinum.
When the recommendations changed to multiple remedies I became confused.

He is currently ill with a cough and fever that began on Nov 4. He has little to no appetite, says that food makes his stomach hurt. He is drinking lots of fluids. The cough began on Nov 6 as a dry barking cough. The next day became a choking suffocating cough for 3 days. Last night it changed to a racking cough, looser and almost productive. The cough is worse at night, worse when trying to talk. When kept bundled and warm, it improves and he eventually falls into a deep sleep, then wakes 2 - 3 times during the night coughing and I give him cherry bark syrup and warm water, which eventually helps him to return to sleep.

He is very gentle and sweet, and wants me only to cuddle and read to him. When he is a bit improved during the day he is quite affectionate and loving with me.

Three days ago on the way home from school he said 'Mama, I feel like I'm going to be sick a long time.'

Can I offer you more information?
Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you so very much,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

What makes him feel better apart from being bundled and warm ?

What else has changed since this acute episode started ?

When does he get the fever ?

'When he is a bit improved during the day he is quite affectionate and loving with me. ' --> so how is he when he is not improved ?

So warm water improves his cough ?

Sameer,

What makes him feel better ?

a hot bath always improves his disposition and experience. He usually likes it warm, but with this episode he has wanted it HOT.

What has changed since this acute episode ?

He had a bloody nose at school on the fourth day. The last bloody nose was in April (2 times) both accompanied by cough and fever/chills.

He also lost his appetite during this episode. Took only clear liquids for 2 days. Then clear liquids and cups of kefir for 2 days. Then ate only little bites of meals for 2 days. On the 7th day he ate a spinach and feta omlette for breakfast. But the following 2 days only nibbles and bites again.

He has been very thirsty and requesting lots of water this episode.

When does he get the fever ?

Had one in March and again in April. Lasts all day for 2 - 5 days, increases at night.
Often with chills (he feels himself to be cold even though temperature is 101*-103*).

So how is he when he is not improved?

He becomes very gentle and sweet when he is 'sick'. Meaning that he sits quietly and wants to cuddle and read books and sleep in my arms or my bed. When he is not 'sick' he is still sweet and kind, but is always moving and always talking (to me or to self). As though his mind is always working, always creating.

So warm water improves his cough ?

He generally likes all his food and drink room temperature or cool. When I make him herbal tea, he likes it with lots of cold milk and then lets it sit for a long time. But to help get the cherry bark cough syrup down when he wakes during the night I give him a cup of slightly warm water with it.

I hope this helps.
Thank you,
Jennifer

Please give him 3 doses of SILICEA 30c in water, at a gap of 30 minutes.

Report after 1 week.

Sameer,

So I dissolve 3 pellets in 2 oz water, then give 1 teaspoon from there? Repeat twice more with a gap of 30 minutes?

Sameer,

Two more notes -

He has been mentioning during this episode that his vision has been effected. Things appear to be overly small - example: when we are sitting at a table he looks at me or the book in front of him and says that my face or the words are too small.

He is visiting my mother right now (so that I can get some sleep). She reported that he vomited up his carrot juice this morning after breakfast. First vomit this episode.

Dissolve 2 pellets in 500 ml water, and 1 teaspoon from there is 1 dose.

Sameer,

My son returned from his visit with my mother, and is no longer coughing or fevered.
His appetite has returned and his ability to eat a full meal is increasing daily. He showed some resistance to homework two days ago, but we were able to work through it and he then completed the work plus extra with enthusiasm.

Shall I wait until symptoms return to give the SILICEA ?
Or do you recommend giving now anyway?

Thank you,
Jennifer

Sameer,

For my son the sniffling and sneezing has returned. Along with some resistance to his homework including a short fit/tantrum when working on it last night.

He complained of his body feeling cold but his nose feeling hot, and blowing but not being able to get the congestion out.

Do you recommend I give him the Silicea now?

Thank you
Jennifer

Sameer,

My son developed a fever and body aches and congestion last week.

The fever was mild and mostly in torso and head. Sometimes feet/legs only.

The body aches were in thighs/femurs and head. He said 'mama my legs feel heavy, and my head too'.

Sinus congestion was short lived (2 days) but yesterday began complaining of hurting ears. Both the outside of his ears and the inner ear. Outside is sensitive to the lightest touch. Inside is painful when finger pressure applied at jawbone, or below ear.

It is hurting enough that he asked that I write to you.

Otherwise in very good disposition. Very creative in his building projects and very willing to be helpful around the house.

Do you have a moment to consider this?

Thank you,
Jennifer

Sorry, I missed your posts, please give him a dose of Silicea 200c in water.

Report after 4 weeks.

sameervermani last decade
Sameer,

We have received the Silicea 200c.

How do I administer?

1 pellet in 250ml?
1 tsp from there?

Thank you,
Jennifer

jbpeanut last decade
Yes, 1 tsp from 250 ml is good.

Sameer,

In the month since the Silicea 200, my son says he feels a 'tiny bit better'.

I am still noticing throwing his head on the table or his body on the floor when it comes time for writing schoolwork. Not with Mathematics or Science, just when he is asked to write with pencil and paper. He has same reaction when asked to express thoughts through typing (I thought it might only be the pencil). Sometimes it becomes a full tantrum in which he escapes to his bed and cries.
Three weeks after the dose he complained at bedtime of ears aching inside and out both ears. Still often complains of legs feeling heavy.
I have taken him to have chiropractic adjustments multiple times as he continually complains of pain in his neck. (apparently it is C5-C6 that are going out of alignment)

He is still quite willing to help with house chores, sometimes without me mentioning or asking. He is really enjoying reading, especially science facts. He has joined an adults chess club and is doing well. He is most content at home.

Can I answer any questions for you?

Or shall I just keep waiting and watching?

Sameer,

For the past week my son has had upset stomach at bedtime. One night he got up during the night and had a very loose bowel movement after much gas during the day.
A few nights later at my mothers house, he woke at 11pm with his stomach audibly rumbling until 1:00 am.
He was able to fall asleep in the car on the way home from my mothers this afternoon with no stomach issue.

Please help. He seems so miserable.

Sameer,

The stomach pain is worse when sitting still or lying down. He says it feels better when he is moving - even if while lying down he just moves his leg back and forth he gets a bit of relief. After breakfast this morning he is just moaning.

He is also throwing more tantrums lately like a small child throwing himself on the floor and kicking. Usually triggered by doing a chore like getting dressed or doing homework.

Thank you for your help.

How is the cough these days ? How is the thirst/drinking pattern ?

Any other symptoms ? Anything else where you would like to see improvements ?

sameervermani last decade
Sameer,

No cough for months.

Thirst seems normal and appropriate for our warm weather.

He says his feet and knees feel like lead. Heavy.

When I pressed for more information, he said he has had short headaches(pressing) at the back and forehead. Short-lived for a few minutes multiple times during the day. Says they started a few days ago. (news to me)

I think that is all.

Thank you,
Jennifer

jbpeanut last decade
P.S. The heaviness in legs could be from the extra bike riding and swimming now that our good weather is here. But not sure, because he has complained of it before.

jbpeanut last decade
So, what all is bothering him at this moment ?

sameervermani last decade
Sameer,

I have been looking for words to describe what is going on with my son.

He has been throwing tantrums of increasing severity for the past 2 weeks. Last night became a 30 minute kicking and screaming fit, in which I had decided to try holding him lovingly while he went through it. This seemed to work when he was a baby. Today he began another fit while at work with me and proclaimed 'I don't want to be here. I don't even want to be alive!'
I was so shocked that all I could do was leave work early and take him home.

Each instance is triggered by me asking him to do something he 'doesn't want to do'. Although today the fit was triggered by not getting to have the lunch he wanted because the cafe was closed.

Physically he complained of a headache yesterday (front above forehead, in the evening), and the stomach grumbling from previous post has subsided to just a few short, mostly painless episodes each day.

His behaviour is a serious problem, because he comes to work with me.

Is there something homeopathy can offer in this situation?

Thank you for your help.
At wits end,
Jennifer

jbpeanut last decade
Yes, homeopathy can be highly helpful in this situation. But, we need to understand the state in a lot more detail. Describe him more, what are his likes/dislikes, fears, anxieties. What are the environmental factors that affect him strongly ? What are his food cravings and aversions ? His general behavior ? Any other peculiarities ?

sameervermani last decade
Sameer,

I do not see food 'cravings' per se, but here is some information about his diet -
We eat according to our blood type (AB)which means mostly vegetables, some turkey and lamb and fish, some cheese and yogurt but no wheat, corn, chicken, beef or tropical fruits. He likes his peas frozen. He likes sushi, would eat fish cooked or raw every day if I would serve it. He loves fresh carrot juice. Used to be very averse to hot (oven hot) food, but not so much in past few months. Pretty much eats whatever I serve him.

'Environmental factors' ??
We're both very thin so get cold easily.

He really likes water - bathtub or pools. We live at a hot springs so he gets to soak alot.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'general behaviour'.

He talks alot - in my opinion. But I don't like talkng, much prefer silence, so maybe that's just me. He doesn't seem to talk so much around other people, just family. But I don't know what he does when I'm not around.

He plays Lego's ALOT.

I don't know about any 'fears or anxieties'. Should he have fears? How would I know or recognize them?

Does this help?

Thank you,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

Sorry for the delay. What else can you tell me about him which will make me understand his case better ? Anything else that you might have noticed ?

Sameer

sameervermani last decade
Sameer,

Let's see what I can share about my son.
Until age 5 his eyes were brilliant blue (amazingly so), but gradually began to change to occasional days of green. Now they vary from hazel to grey to blue. (mostly grey)

He is quite tall and thin for his age. His hair is light brown, very thick and very straight. He loves cats (we have one) but only tolerates dogs. He catches lizards easily (very fast hands).
He prefers to be at home, and with family. He loves to go visit my mother and spend days with my big family there. (not my preference)
Whenever he has a playdate, or when he was in school, I can tell who he spent the day with because he comes home speaking like him or her (just as I did as a child). Usually, he makes up voices for the characters in his Lego sets, and sometimes/often one of these voices sticks to him all day or for days, and I have to remind him a few times to use his own voice.

He fidgets. Does not sit still well. Unconsciously fiddles with things.

Every sunday we attend kirtan in our temple. He curls up on cushions next to me and falls asleep with his head in my lap every week, no matter how much sleep the night before. If he has trouble sleeping at night he will put a kirtan recording in his cd player in his room.

He has a very active hungry mind and would love for me to teach him every morning. (if only I had the time) He has been requesting to learn French. He loves to watch films and read books about Egypt - teaching me and anyone else who will listen all the facts he has read. He has amazing memory recall - for both facts and figures and for events (including events from when he was just two years old).

Does this help? Can I answer more questions?

Jennifer

p.s. will post to my thread tomorrow.

jbpeanut last decade
Yes, please describe all the physical symptoms that are bothering him currently. For each symptom, also try to describe what makes it better or worse ? What times does the symptom appear ?
