Bump on finger

I noticed a rice grain-sized hard bump on the inner side of my right ring-finger the other day. I thought it was a bone spur, so I went to see a doctor about it as it is sore on contact.
He felt it and said it's a Ganglion cyst. I read up about them though and they are usually soft as oposed to hard. He said an ultra-sound would be pointless, so I guess he's sure of himself, but I don't like such a hypothetic diagnosis. Meanwhile I'm in anguish, because I have to be careful about anything I touch.
I've been taking some Silicea 30 even prior to this. Should I continue taking it?
What else can I do to get rid of this asap? It's in a very uncomofrtable spot...
Thanks

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hmm... the definition of ganglion cysts does include cysts that feel hard as well as soft ones.

From here: http://www.med.und.nodak.edu/users/jwhiting/ganglia.html
"Definition: The ganglion cyst (also known as a wrist cyst, Bible cyst, or dorsal tendon cyst) is the most common soft tissue mass of the hand. It is a fluid filled sac which can be felt below the skin. It is usually attached to a tendon sheath (lining which lubricates the tendon) in the hand or wrist or connected with an underlying joint; however, some have no obvious connection to any structures. These may also occur in the foot. It often occurs when there is a tear in the ligaments overlying the lining of tendons or joints and the lining herniates out of the ligamentous defect causing a bump under the skin. Because there is often inflammation associated, the inflamed tissue produces a jelly-like fluid which fills the protruding sac. They may be rock hard due to a high pressure of the mucous like fluid contained within the cyst, and are often mistaken for a bony prominence."

It may go away, and I hope that it does, but you can always have it drained by a professional doctor if it becomes too painful.

Here's some more info for you, if you are interested:

This remedy response may not be familiar to some but I am from New Mexico and my grandmother used something called "trementina," which I believe is tree sap. They sell it at herbal shops here. I've used it for planter's warts, ingrown toenails, smashed fingers where blood needed to be removed, etc., and it worked on everything. I applied it every morning/evening with a bandaid to keep it on and slowly but surely whatever needed to be removed, came off with no pain.

Thank you for your tips and links.
I'm not too sure the termentina could work if the the problem is deep in the tissue... The things you describe seem to be more topical. I will try it on my warts though and perhaps on the cyst as well.
I hope I can find it, however.

Calc Fluor, 12x, 2 tabs, thrice daily.

Ruta in 30c or 200c is effective for ganglion cyst, esp. if it is due to ligament tear. CALC FLUOR can be taken along with it.
