Puncture wound that was infected, help, now what?
So I posted last night about my 2 year old who punctured her foot and it became hard, sensitive, very painful and swollen. There was infection but it was too deep and the hole too small and somewhat closed inside I think to be able to get pus out, I tried ledum with no relief and then hypericum, also tried Arnica, then found relief in Apis Mel 30c. She awoke at 2am with much fussing and crying out in pain and any movement was excrutiating for her, her foot had also swelled on top and I decided to take her in to get it lanced. Pus came out but I do not know what color it was or if it had smell as I was holding her for the dr to do it and didn't think to ask. I had hoped the hole was bigger to be able to get more infection out today if more came but it's just as tiny as the hole before! Also it seems fairly healed again... last night she only got pain relief from Staphysagria, it was given 2 times in the night and once in the morning. The area is still hard and swollen though not sensitive to touch like last night, pressure is still painful, she wanted badly to go walk this morning but after a few attempts at different times she gave up on it. I did a soak in chamomile tea and also gave her a dose of hepar sulph in 30x after which she began walking around on the side of her foot, she's been getting around pretty good like that for the past hour without much complaint, she was even kicking me with both feet... Sooo, hepar seems to have given some relief but I was reading that one should be careful in low potency, why is this? Does it seem ok to continue with the 30x to you guys? Currently I have 30x and 30c that I can use. Oh and Thanks for your help, trying to learn the right potency and remedy are not always so obvious for me.Nichole1808 on 2012-03-14
This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Bumping.. like last night it appears to be hurting her more once again, there is still heat, redness, firmness and pain between the size of a quarter and silver dollar.
I'm confused as to which remedy should be used at this point, I've given Hepar Sulph 30x about 3 or 4 times today as she fussed about it, just gave another dose as she's not getting around as quickly or easy as earlier.
Any advice on what remedy to continue with would be much appreciated as I've been avoiding antibiotics thus far and fear it getting pussy again and requiring another lancing, once was enough for the both of us I don't want to put her through that again and know it can be stopped with homeopathics, just need guidance or reassurance on which one at which potency.

Ok you need to remember the lesson you learned with Apis - you can only prescribe on the symptoms, don't give remedies based on the name of the problem or situation. You will go around and around like this, never understanding what is happening or how to tackle it.
It is also important not to chop and change remedies so much. The reason we persist with a remedy that leads to cure, is because we have confidence in the reasons for prescribing it. When you don't have that confidence you may change from the right remedy and never realise it.
Try not to look at the problem locally. You want to look at it generally. What is her general state. Hepar sulph is oversensitive especially to cold but all things seem to affect them out of proportion to what you would expect. Cold is actually painful to them and they cringe from anything that is cold. They are irritable, aggressive, rude, hate consolation, even striking when angry.
You are better off matching the generals in the case rather than trying to give 'injury' remedies. Things like sensitivities to the environment, appetite, thirst, emotional state, mental state, general energy, what makes them better, what seems to make them worse. The more 'I' symptoms you can find the more reliably the remedy will work. 'I' symptoms apply to the whole person not a part. 'It' symptoms are only valuable if very peculiar ie. painful leg better for pressing on it.
The real trick in homoeopathy is the case taking. You need to be able to tell what is rare, strange and peculiar, and what is important, filtering those out from the common symptoms that rarely help you to get to a remedy.
Now the important thing here is to approach this methodically. You have had a good result from Apis. How often did you repeat it and what was the results from repeat doses? Are you able to get 200c, as children more typically need this potency rather than 30c?

It's been a few days and things have been busy so I haven't been able to get back on, I did want to update though.
After my last post I had given her another dose of the Hepar Sulph in 30x and since she'd had one just a couple hours earlier I thought maybe she needed a 'stronger' dose and gave 4 pills rather than 3, I also gave her a dose of staphysagria since that had been so great for pain relief previously. Just a quick side note, I did give her apis at the hospital when they were done as the numbing agent was wearing off and she was again in pain, however she had no relief from it this time. What I learned about homeopathy is that when the circumstances change so does the remedy, ie. puncture wound vs surgical wound being the lancing. Ok now back to the update, anyhow, 15 minutes later she was running around on the bed playing with her sister, no pain, spirits up AND she suddenly had a huge appetite (we'd just eaten about 30 min before and she only ate a few bites of her favorite). I also noticed that after an hour or so the heat in her foot was lessened as well as the firmness of it, it was still hard but not as it had been before. Seeing as how she had such great improvement I decided to give both each time thereafter. She slept through the WHOLE night and in the morning I gave her another dose of both. She went hobbling around, we ate breakfast, she played. Before lunch she complained again but not so much, I gave another dose of each and we ate lunch shortly after, she again had a huge appetite and ate a LOT then to my surprise she got down and on seeing her siblings running to Grandma's room she followed and RAN too! She still had a bit of a hobble while running but still, more improvement. She felt well enough I put some shoes on and she went outside to play too. We continued with the double dosing though she only had 2-3 doses that day and the next day she was running and playing like nothing ever happened. During this time I paid close attention to her foot and each day noticed less and less heat, the redness area and swelling reducing as well as marked reduction in the firmness. Now it is all but a tiny wound just finishing up healing, I stopped giving her the remedies a couple days ago as now it is healing on it's own and needs no help.
I appreciate your input and time to respond and I thank my Father in Heaven for His guidance in finding the remedy to help my daughter.
