chronic pain in foot after stroke

My father is 67 years old and had stroke on 2nd March 2003. He also had heart attack (described by doctors as minor) in 1999.

He is currently taking medication for high chelostrol and blood thiner and blood pressure.

The medications are, Clavix, Amlodipine Besylate, Atorvastatin Calcium.

He is also diabetic and takes half pill (Metformin Hcl 500 mg) to control it. He is alergic to asprin and advil.

He is vegitarian and does not drink alchol. He does like sweets and can't eat any amount of spices in his food. He is generally
very cold, keeps heater on very late in spring and uses heavy blanket throught the year.

He is shy, quite, reserved and generally liked by everyone. He does not do much of exercise now but does some walking indoors.

He has done lots of physical labor as a farmer but is now retired.

After the stroke, he started to have pain in his right foot. He has done all sorts of tests but nothing shows up in MRI, x-rays etc.
He has been told that he has to live with it for rest of his life.

He usually feels better when he is busy and can mostly ignore the pain. However, when he is not busy, he even ties rope around
his foot to get some temporary relief.

Daily massage also provides some temporary relief.


Is there anything that can help him with his pain?
