acne help: i am so confused

I have just reached the adult years of my life. I will be 19 this year.
But unlike most people I did not start having acne in my ongoing teenage years. I was around 10 or 11 when small little pimples developed on my face and my mom squeezed them. Later on the pimples were massive. I mean seriously huge. Big as a grown man's thumb print. And From my mom's routine of squeezing I started to do so also. I had braces, I have glasses and acne. so my life was a living hell of taunts and teases that made you go home and cry alone at night. My mother never ever encourage going to a dermatologist, she made them look like bad guys. Saying they only want your money. So I was reduced to purges, teas, burning creams, all kinds of herbal medecines, soaps and creations. We started with Clearskin which righht now is the only name i can actualy say or know what my mom put on my face. Clearskin dried outt my face and had no affects at all on my faces. The weird stuff my mom put on my face made some acne go away and then it just had no affect.
I am so so confused.
I don't know what to do. I read up on stuff like "Silicea" then my mom says she knows people that tried it and it dried out their skin and didn't work. My cousin tried pro active and it did nothing.
My mom is so dicouraging and I am just so upset and frustrated. My face is horrible stained and I hate looking in the mirror. I hate looking at my face. All the scars, the acne. My nose and chin is covered in black heads and little pimples.
I honestly don't know what to do.
My family is not very rich.
And I am very sick, I had a stroke on the left side of my face "Bell';s Palsy", I hated my self so much that I went into depression and even stopped eating.
I am from Trinidad, my skin is brown. I had braces and in grade 6 everyone did not brush their teeth and I always followed the crowd. Now my yellowish teeth (Which I am totaly surprised that I never had a cavity), my wire like hair, and my grosed out acne is such an eye soar.
I want to slowly make it all go away.
I want to look in the mirror and like myself.
But one problem, we are not rich at all. Infact we hardly even have money to keep up with rent.
I am pretty sick at the moment and I need to save up also for collage.
My brother is getting married to a girl over seas so he needs money to go marry her and bring her here.
Alot of money problems in my home, and lack of encouragment and alot of discouragement from my mother.
The only reason I got Vichy acne cream is because it was given as a sample. And it shrinks some bumps put its losing its affect.
I am so sorry this post is so long. And that I dont know alot.
But I would be so greatful for any help or advice.

Thank you in advance!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I forgot to add, can anyone suggest something that is not costly and is herbal.

And also advice on reasoning with my mother.

haana,

I'm not an expert or anything, but I thought I'd reply. I know you don't have any money, but have you tried using velocity by mary kay for a face wash and moisturizer? (2 steps, $11 a bottle) It seems to work good for my breakouts. I'm 21, haven't had major problems, but still had breakouts, and that seemed to help. Other ideas that I've heard of, is to try using Purell hand sanitizer on your face... I heard it clears up really bad skin. My sister's advice to you is to try the Pro-Active, that she is using, and it's working great for her. Even though it's costly, it's worth trying, especially for your self-esteem. Acne medication seems expensive, but what's going to cost more in the long run, is your low self-esteem.

As far as teeth are concerned, if you scrub your teeth first with toothpaste, and then afterwards with baking soda, in the morning and at night, that will make them white-- guaranteed. (Just don't swallow it-- yuck!)

And for your hair, suprisingly beer is a great solution. It shines and mellows the frizz. My sister has wavy hair that goes frizzy curl or straight. She's never had to go as far as trying the beer- but it works. Iron straighteners can frizz the hair more so if and when you do use this use one with a ceramic plate and use a straightening conditioner along with it. Another thing to consider is that your hair needs 'supplements' too- eggs beaten up work good for shine and a healthy bounce. Make sure and rinse it completely and then shampoo afterward or it can make the hair smell kinda weird, but it works great if you are on a low budget.

As far as your mom is concerned, let her know how you feel about yourself. Tell her that you feel badly about yourself, and just want any healing you can get, inside and out. And to do that, you have to feel good about yourself first. Even though she is discouraging, let her know that you need to feel good about yourself, and that it could make a MAJOR difference in your life if something worked.

Like I said, I'm just a passer-byer who saw your message, not a doctor or anything. But please don't feel badly about yourself... you're only 19! Things are just starting for you-- not ending :)

Nesha-India- I am guessing that they are costly... right?

Jelybeen- Thanks alot. My mom said that my cousin used PRO Active and we do have the same skin problem. That it did not work for him. So i am scared to put out the type of money, it is alot.
I never thought of using a hand sanitizer.I never heard of mary kay .
I heard of tring egg on your hair but i wont be able to use beer.
Baking soda? My teeth are really really yellowy will it make a big difference. Or will it gradualy whiten slowly?
Well there is no talking to my mom. She thinks "God" will answer everything and that she is just really a penny pincher. She really doesnt like to spend money at all.
Like she said she would by me a cell phone for my 18th birthday and the cost wouldn't matter. In the end she saw how much a cell phone cost the one I wanted and start discouraging me saying I dont need one and then finaly to the point where I spent my last amount of money buying my own for my 18th birthday.
I have ti depend on my mom for alot of stuff even when i went to a therpist for my depression she started discoraging me saying that he gives you needless medication and he is no good to the point that I stopped going.
Its very hard to reason with her.
And thanks laot for the advice and consideration I really appreciate it.

what exactly is the procedure for this beer in the hair thing? do you let it set? is budweiser a good choice:)

my hair gets really curly unless its really short. its not all over either its just one section here and there with hair that curls out from the rest. which makes it worse. even with moose in there it still cant tame it. ______________________________
how long should beer be left in the hair?

hotty198 last decade
I think you just wash your hair with it. Let it set for a few minutes, and then rinse it out. Budweizer should be just perfect-- any cheap beer is just as good.

Yes, the baking soda will work for really yellow teeth. Just do it in the morning and night, and you will start seeing a difference!

Go to marykay website (just add the dot-com to the name) and order "Velocity" skin wash and moisturizer. It's in an orange and white bottle. Try it for 1-2 months and see what happens!

For acne problem i always suggest to my patient berberis equifolium tincture and sarsaparilla 6c.I dont know any failure.Remember this is an internal disease and must be cured by internal medicines, all sort of creams are palliative.
The dose of berberis equifolium is 10 drops thrice daily and sarsparilla 6c, 5 drops thrice daily with half an hour apart.

I have a book called "House-Hold Hints and Handy Tips" that actually has some advice. Page 253-254. You can buy it on Amazon-dot-com probably.

"To Remove dandruff it says to shake 1 tablespoon of table salt into dry hair and to massage into your hair before shampooing. For bouncy hair in damp weather it says to 1) light hair- mix 1/2 cup warm water and appl;y to hair. 2) dark hair - simmer a handful of dried rosemary leaves in 1 cup of water for 5-10 minutes. Remove from heat, and steep until warm. Strain and apply to the hair."

"Revitalize and luster: Beat 3 eggs, add 2 tablespoons olive or safflower oil and 1 teaspoon vinegar. Apply mixture to hair and cover with plastic wrap. Wait half an hour and then shampoo well."

"Good Hair Conditioner: Combine 3/4 cup olive oil, 1/2 cup honey, and the juice of 1 lemon and set aside. Rinse hair with water and towel dry. Work in a small amount of conditioner (store leftovers in refrigerator). Comb and distribute evenly and cover with a plastic bag or plastic wrap for 1/2 hour. Shampoo and rinse thoroughly."

Another good remedy for whitening teeth is to mix some baking soda with a little hydrogen peroxide. A bottle of peroxide is about $1.00 so this is a very inexpensive way to whiten that gets great results. You can get it in the first-aid and medicine section of any grocery store. Mayonnaise is a great hair conditioner and scalp treatment. Cover with plastic and let sit for about 10 minutes. For acne, you need a blood purifier. Healing acne for real has to come from within. If you can find a good Chinese herbal formula that is indicated for blood purification then that is what you should do. Just do some internet searching or go to your local health food store and ask some questions. A lot of times they will be able to recommend a product to you. Liquid Chlorophyl is a great help too. It's fairly inexpensive and can be gotten at any health food store. Tea Tree Oil is affordable and works great when applied to the pimples twice daily. If you squeeze them, be sure and wash your face well after, or you could be spreading the infection to other spots on your face causing more acne.
Hang in there, Sweety. It sounds like your Mom isn't very willing to help you. I agree with the other posting that said you really need to make her aware of how badly you feel about your problems. You are valuable and you deserve to be helped. God does care for you and He will also help if you let him. Remember, we have not because we ask not. It's been my experience that He sends help in unusual and unexpected ways, so don't hesitate to ask Him. You keep looking for remedies, and don't give up. There is an answer to every problem under the sun, it's just a matter of looking hard enough. I will do some research on herbal acne remedies and post what I come up with. I will also call my Herbalist and ask her for advice for you.

After searching remedies, the best Idea I found that is almost no money, is to use lemons and witch hazel. In the morning cut a lemon into quarters to make it go a long way. Rub the lemon on your face and let it dry for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water to close your pores. The acid in the lemon will quickly resolve the pimple problem and will begin to cause acne scars to fade. Witch Hazel is an astringent that you can get in any grocery store or drug store. It's very cheap. It will normalize the Ph of you skin and tone it. I had forgotten this remedy. I used to use Lemon and I remember that it does work. Makes your skin beautiful. You must be diligent with it . Use it morning and at night before going to bed. I also did a little research on Chinese herbs. I am a big proponant of Chinese herbs for healing. If you go to QualityChineseHerbs dot com then click on "functions list" in the far right corner, then go to about the middle of the page and click on "acne" it will give you three choices. A combination called Bupleurum and Rhemannia is an excellent blood tonic and skin clearer and it is $18.00 for a months supply. On down the page you will find "Schizandra & Lycium" for $22.00 also for a month. Either of these would resolve your acne problem, but only if you take it faithfully. Once you have clear beautiful skin, you could probably stop taking it to see how things go. Once your blood is purified and if you eat right, you may not have to keep taking it. These are herbs that the Chinese consume on a regular basis. Ever see a Chinese person with acne? Since the Chinese Herbs are kinda expensive, try the lemon and witch hazel remedy first. Do it faithfully and you should see results quickly. In case you don't already know, anyone with acne should not eat chocolate!!! It will make it worse. Best of luck to you, Dear One. Please let us all know how it goes for you. Oh, by the way. I have hair just like you discribed and I wanted to tell you that after I started using Infusium Shampoo and Conditioner, my hair improved 100% It is actually soft and shiney now. It's about $4.00 per bottle and soooo worth it. I get it at Wal mart or the grocery store.

Sorry for being long-winded. I just remembered something my Herbalist told me. Drinking lemon water made from fresh squeezed lemons is very cleansing to the body in general. Just squeeze six medium size lemons into 2 liters fo water and drink about two glasses per day until it is all gone. Try not to add sugar. I know it is bitter, and a little honey added would be ok, but please don't add sugar. This will cleanse you from within, thus helping your skin.

haana last decade
Haana,
I agree with the poster who said that the problem is internal and that is what needs to be worked on. I have had acne all my life, I just turned 30. I found in my early 20's that being on birth control kept my acne at bay but when I went off of it a year ago my skin went wildly out of control producing the oiliest skin and cystic type welts under my skin everywhere - I was a real mess. I have spent the year frantic to find something that works and have not gone to the dermatologist because of financial reasons - and also becuase I know that this problem is hormone related and needs to be balanced from within - this is something that a dermatologist cannot help you with. Finally later this year, a wise older friend of mine told me that her daughter started taking Vitamin A and said this is what I should do too. I saw her daughters skin - it was much worse than mine because it was over the entire face. She now has beautiful skin and is trying out for acting parts in NYC - they comment on how beautiful her skin is! Vitamin A cost me $3.50 to buy 100 gel caps through the local pharmacy - This is a three months and 10 days supply! My friend told me it would take at least a month to start seeing results - and she was right. I have just started seeing the results and am very happy with the direction this is going. I read the previous posts- and knowing already the sensitive condition your skin is in - please do not put the hand sanitizer (mostly alcohol and harsh chemicals) on your skin. This might be okay for someone to use in a fix on a tiny spot on otherwise healthy skin - but it would only further irritate and inflame your delicate skin's condition. You will not want to put anything too harsh on your skin but you will want to keep it clean, toned, and properly moisturized. This is basically what Proactive is- a cleanser (with benzoyl peroxide), toner (with witch hazel), and lotion (with time release bezoyl peroxide). I have bought a generic form of Proactive called AcneFree, also through my pharmacy. It has the same three things and I can tell that it doesn't overly dry out my skin, nor overly moisturize, and it has helped - not cured, but helped. AcneFree is $20.00 for a months suppy, which is less than Proactive. And it is a good system for skin that is in such distress to get it at least stabilized. Witch hazel is a good toner- but you need a good cleaner first. Try to find something that has some benzoyl peroxide in it - but not pure peroxide as this is too harsh. You must clean your face using some sort of exfoliator, like a buff puff or something - NOTHING that will SCRATCH like a loofah or anything. Just to gently get the dead skin cells off as they will prevent any medicine from getting to the abrasions and they will also promote further problems as the dead skin cells will clog your overactive pores. Even a terrycloth wash cloth would work just fine. Rub in gentle circular motions - try not to damage the under layers of your skin. It can take a few days for your skin to get used to this but if you are getting too dry you are doing it too much or too hard. Use the buff puff with your cleanser in the morning with warm water, PAT dry with a soft cloth, then with a clean cotton ball apply the witch hazel and allow to air dry. Do not use make-up except maybe eye shadow/mascara if you must. Do this same ritual in the evening - but if you experience overly dry skin then skip the buff puff and just use your fingers with the cleanser (always wash your hands before you touch your face and always rinse the cleanser completely from your face afterwards - rinse twice if needed) This is probably all you have to do as you continue to take the vitamin A every day and wait for results (I take mine in the morning with breakfast). Some people can be sensitive to A - and if you're pregnant you should not have overabundant amounts of A. I have started to take just one a day and am experiencing great results a month later. I may up it to two pills a day (sorry I don't know the dosage per pill, they are average though) if later down the road I don't see completely clear skin. I hope you will try this. As for pressing them - I admit to being a picker. I can't stand having an eruption ready to happen on my skin. I take care of it by first holding warm water on a cloth against it for a couple minutes to allow the skin to relax and open. Then with a kleenex tissue or toilet paper I wad it up so that as I press there are pads of tissue protecting the surrounding skin. I press it out the best I can and then with a clean part of the tissue I apply pressure for at LEAST a minute, usualy several minutes, until it has stopped seeping completely. Then I wash it with cool water to close the pore and apply some toner. This is the best way I have found to take care of them. The key is to then leave them alone to heal. If you pick at scabs you will get scars, no doubt. Leave scabs to heal. Picking them off prematurly will leave a dimple in your skin. Regarding your Mother. I understand that your culture is different than mine. As a nineteen year old I was free to make money and make independent decisions. My mother was also very controlling when I was a youth and I had a lot of conflict with her as I grew up. Now I look back and see how she was only trying to help me be the best person I could be and she was always right about everything. I know that it is hard - but try to see her love for you through her hard decisions. Most of your hard feelings are directed towards yourself as a result of your low self esteem and I understand how this is directly related to your skin issues. Your Mom isn't in charge of how you feel or how you react to things, only you are. Stress and anxiety will only show up as more outbreaks in your skin. Try to find balance in your life and learn to meditate to find the answers from within yourself. You are an adult now and are in charge of who you will become. You sound like a wonderful young lady and I wish you all the best luck in the world. Try the Vitamin A - and keep that skin nice and clean!

thank you thank you so much. I read your ENTIRE post and it has the best advice that is very suitable for me.
We have financial problems so we can not go to a dermatoligist (sp?). And also I do pick at my face as well. And my face is very sensitive and hurts when I use facial scrubs. I used to use clear skin on. The wash the thick clear liquid. I noticed it dried out my face and it hurt.
But I am going to do everything you said.
Yes I know she is trying to help.
And yes I know I have very low self esteem.
I am going threw the period where I do not even want to look in the mirror because all I see this acne and scars and its what I think everyone else sees when they look at me.

Thank you so much.
I told my mom what you said and she said we will look for these products. Not only have you helped me but my mother and brother whose acne is milder but still there.
My face is completely covered now by scars but they have like 3 or 4 that never seem to go away.

And again thank you.

haana last decade
Haana,
I am very glad in my heart to read your post and hear the hope in your words. Everyday without a new breakout is a good day for me. It has been a lot of trial and error to get here. Have faith. I understand the pain as do many others and without the support of these friends I would feel very alone in what sometimes seems to be a perfect skin/body world. But the truth of this matter is -that every person you see and think they are looking at your skin rather than you - They are too preoccupied to notice your skin because they are thinking the same things about themself! Maybe they are worried about their skin, or their breasts, or their theighs, or their teeth or hair. Most people have something they feel very insecure about (even models!). It is natural in a world of magazine and tv model adoration. The people you see in tv and in magazines are first of all, only about 2% of the total population, and they are air brushed and digitally enhanced to look perfect like that. It is only common sense that as a result of this media hype we as women would end up feeling inadequate or not as good about ourselves! It's really quite unfair and I think by understanding the truth and logic of this goes a long ways in helping to build yourself up. I have to remind myself of this often and look around me at all the other people who exist and all of the problems that we all have together, and all of the problems I Don't have. And in the grand scheme of things - I am pretty darn lucky to have my biggest health problem be my skin! The greatest beauty comes from self confidence and no matter what you physically look like good self confidence shines through you like a bright warm sunshine making others feel good to be around you! Discovering and developing your confidence can be your greatest asset and strength because with it you will demand better treatment, better situations, better boyfriends and eventually you will not settle for a husband who is not your equal and with whom you will be happy and secure - the end result is a better life - because you will know that you are WORTH it and that no one deserves LESS than that! No one! :)

Regarding diet and skin. A balanced diet with lots of water never hurt and many say that you are what you eat :) My skin does react negatively to eating lots of junk food - but this is when I have binged and pigged out for days on end. A meal here and there, chocolate every once in awhile - this is all okay as long as for the most part you are making good decisions to eat healthy and balanced. Limit the greasy fatty junk food, especially fast food. Drinking water is key to keeping your skin hydrated and functioning properly. Those skin cells need that water to work and flush out those toxins in our body! We lose a lot of water when we sleep - if you drink a glass of water right away in the morning you will actually physically feel your body take it in and wake up! This is very good for you :) Choose water first over all other beverages (with fresh lemon juice squeezed in even better!).

But I do not believe that for me the diet is the beginning and end of my skin issues, but it is an element that can either contribute towards making it worse or not making it worse. Notice I did not say make it better. I really do believe that it is first hormonal -as evidenced by the surge in outbreaks the week prior to my period. Also evidenced by my going off the pill which controls the hormones in the body and skin going wildly out of control without it.

Once your skin is under control and has healed and regained a good supple balance there are some things you can do that will help the scars - this is not a life long sentence. Over time most scars will fade and go away completely on their own. I had a bad traffic accident when I was 19 and had horrible damage and scarring on my cheek bone and eyelid - it is completely gone now and you wouldn't even know anything had happened, unless I am crying in which case the areas that were hurt turn bright red. But just time was all that it needed to heal itself. When you are older and if there are still some persistent scarring that bothers you, you can then save up and go to a dermatologist who can give you treatments called micro dermabrasion that will minimize the scarring (although by this time they will probably have some fancy new laser treatment that takes half the time for half the money). It basically involves sandblasting the surface of the skin to be more even on a microscopic level - doesn't sound too fun right? Not to me either! But it results in what looks like a sunburn and it peels off and new skin grows in, smooth & even. It is something in the distant future that you will have as a possibility. But first things first right ;) Hang in there dear girl - be patient over the next month while you wait for the effects of the vitamin A to kick in - be consistent in taking it every single day and always wash your face every morning and every night without skipping. Make good eating habits that will last a lifetime and drink plenty of water. Find things to feel happy about every single day and change things that make you stressed out and unhappy if you can or learn how to deal with stressful things in ways that are healthy. Sending hugs & positive vibrations your way!
Anne
PS Don't forget to wash your hands every time before you touch your face.

adiya-
I really did not know about the sulphur thing. I knew a girl in school who used proactive and it did make it worse as you said.
I did not know about the shampoo and soap problem. I had to change my shampoo coincedently to herbal because regular shampoo caused my head to itch more and irritate my scalp and created giant flakes. After I went herbal not a single flake. And even at work everyone asks me what I use on my hair. I say any less then $2 herbal shampoo I see on sale works better then salon shampoos for me.
Yea, I am under stress and I hate looking in the mirror and seeing a giant eye sore and all I want to do is pick at it and make it go away. My case with the mirrors, there is a mirror in the front room, one in my room, one near the kitchen, one in the hall way and one in the washroom and I mean giant mirrors so it is very hard to resist.
I have dark dark stains all over my face from picking at it. It is really hard to resist.

awright1676-
yea its so hard. Because all I am thinking about is my acne covered face. And I think the see it to. And the peopel at my work has flawless beautiful skin.
You are right about movie stars, some have depression and even jessica simpson had pimples and had to wear a ton of make up to look perfect.

Same with me. Everytime I eat chocolate the pimples get larger and worse. It is hard to resist. Thats why I tried to get my mom to buy more yogurt and granola bars so I could eat that instead of having chocolate near me.
I never eat fast food.
I only drink milk, water and juice. Not so much water though. But hearing that maybe I should drink a cup of water with my tea for breakfast.
I think alot of women get acne before or after they get their period. I get large pimples a few days before like warning signs my period is comming and mom mom gets pimples after her's.
I am glad you are better and healed after the accident.

Before my 16th birthday I had a stroke and the left side of my face was paralyzed and went crooked. And they say that a large percentage never fully recover or do not even recover at all. I recoevered but my left eye has a mind of its on. The nerve is screwed up. So I guessyour accident has you a bit insecure sometimes or you got over it.
I am scared to eat in the lunch room because my left eye twitches when I chew and looks scary.

Thank you so much again for all your adive. It is a seriously huge help.

.... Before my 16th birthday I had a stroke and the left side of my face was paralyzed and went crooked. And they say that a large percentage never fully recover or do not even recover at all. I recovered but my left eye has a mind of its own....

Haana,
I had horrible acne as a teen and I also had a lot of abuse because of it, both my parents started popping them when they first showed up and I still do to this day. Although most of it has gone away, at 32 I still have them daily pretty much but there are some great times when I'm almost clear (most often when I just don't pick). For me I find the sun is the major factor to acne, the more sun I get the less I have...

Unfortunately there is no miracle cure, I tried everything the dermatologist gave me and I was so frustrated I tried Acutane (DO NOT EVER DO THIS). I had nose bleeds daily, bone and joint pain, horrible dry skin, and the list goes on.

The mental pain was far worse and the only thing that fixed the hurt was an amazing girlfriend who has renovated my personality.

Unfortunately some times parents want the best for their kids, but often that is as long as it's not more than what they have. My girlfriend had some major parent issues and the only thing to correct it was to move out. After 7 years her mom has gone to counselling and they are back and talking. The only thing that can build your confidence is you and the people who surround you. Make sure you remove any negative influences in your life or work with them to change as well, as one person put it, tell your mom exactly how you feel and how she makes you feel. But be prepared to put up some walls to your mom if she doesn't respond with what you need...

As for the hair, good old Olive Oil, rub it in your hair every night and your hair will start to feel much nicer. It helps everything to do with hair, dryness, dandruff, strength, shine. That is a miracle cure.

The most important piece, don't be so hard on yourself, confidence comes from within and from the people around you, if you don't feel confident, find friends who will make you feel better about yourself. On the personal side, always remember that everyone feels unconfident sometimes and most people who look confident are actually putting on an act. Why are there ugly cool kids at school... they stand up for themselves! wish I'd known this 15 years ago...

Good luck, I hope I helped...

Hello Haana,

I read your post with great sympathy, as did many other people. You have a lot of readers out there who understand, better than you think!

Many young women feel ugly and hideous when growing up.

But you must know, that inside you are a Queen. Every women is -- whether she knows it or not!

Have compassion for your mother. It sounds like she wants to help you, but does not know how.

She discourages you from trying to help yourself, because she has been unable to help herself. When she squelches your attempts to find solutions, just look at her with quiet understanding. Thank her for trying to help.

Then, go ahead and do what YOU think you must, to lift yourself out of the misery you feel.

Take one tiny step at a time.

You are a woman now, no longer a little girl. Your mom did her best for you while you were growing up, but now it's more than time to step out and begin helping yourself!

Luckily, you have access to the Internet, which can show you a larger world.

First, let's address the sadness you feel when looking in the mirror.

Here's a trick:

Wait until night. Then, by candlelight only, take off all of your clothes and look at yourself in the mirror. Find something, anything, any part of your face or body that you can find beautiful.

Even if it's only your collarbone, your shoulder, your eyebrows.

Feel gratitude and love for this body that is yours. Then, say to yourself, 'I am beautiful.' It's scary, isn't it? So many of us yearn to be beautiful, but can't believe that we are, in fact, just that.

That's all. For many of us, it takes great courage to take even this tiny little step.

Do this for as many nights as you need to.

It's a beginning!

For your hair, try jojoba oil. Take a few drops and massage into your hair. Then take a bath towel which has been soaked in hot water. Wring out the towel and wrap it around your head. Wrap another dry towel around that, and leave it on until cool.

The moist heat will drive the oil into your hair shaft.

This will make hair silken and very pretty!

For your skin, try mixing equal amounts of honey, rosewater and a tiny amount of fresh lemon juice. Make a paste and put this on each day for awhile. Rinse.

This will soothe your angry skin.

To make a simple healing skin mask, combine equal amounts of yogurt, honey and powdered baby cereal such as oatmeal or barley.

Put this on your skin and let it dry, then rinse off, every day if possible.

There are a couple of movies which I love. They are about women who started out in life feeling ugly, hideous, and what they did about it! In both movies, the heroine has a mother who makes her feel ugly indeed. These are wonderful movies, which you can find through the Internet.

They are, Now Voyager and The Mirror Has Two Faces.

Last, there is a wonderful book by a woman who lived and wrote in the 1920s, named Florence Scovell Shinn. It's called The Game of Life and How to Play It. This is a wonderful book, which you can buy used, very cheaply on the Internet. Read and use the suggestions in this wonderful book, and your life will surely transform. It happened to me!

There, I've given a lot of suggestions.

Good luck!
