Fluid in Lungs of 6 yr old Labrador

Just got back from vet. Seems our beautiful Lab boy has fluid in his lungs. So much so that the x-ray made it hard to see even his heart. He has been coughing, wheezing and gagging for over a week. At night when he rolls on his side the congestion seems to worsen. Our vet, who is not a homeopath, gave a shot of Lasix and sent us home with some Lasix pill. We will see on Friday if this has helped. The vet did some blood work. Tried to tap the lung but was unsuccessful (couldn't get enough) All the prognoses seem not to be very good. What might you suggest as a diuretic or to help the problem of all this fluid building up in his lungs?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please give him Antimonium Tart 30 in the morning and evening for 7 days.

1 drop or 2 pills may be mixed with some water and given few sips. This is one dose.

Are there any heart issues? Also, please check the Lasix dose, if the dog has heart issues, and you give Lasix, there is possiblity of potassium depletion which can aggravate the situation. If giving Lasix, please watch the dog to ensure he is not too exhausted. THere are homeopathic alternatives to Lasix like Apis-Mel, but please check with Dr. Kadwa on this.

Thank you so much for your replies I will give him the Antimonium Tart 30 tomorrow. He does seem better after the Lasix. Has generally abated the coughing. In regard to the possibility of potassium depletion, should I be supplementing him with potassium while he is taking the Lasix. If so, what would you suggest? He is 100 lbs.

No, please dont supplement potassium, minerals like that are dangerous in excess or less. Just watch the dog for any symptoms. Long term use of Lasix is not good for dogs. They start having other issues. You are under good care now with Dr. Kadwa, so please do ONLY what he says. I am NOT a doctor of any kind.

Will Apis-Mel have similar effect as Lasix? Should I be administering it rather than the Lasix?

Apis will work if he is thirstless and prefers cold surroundings. If this is the case Antimonium Tart 30 is not needed.
