avena sativa

my question is regarding avena sativa, can it be used for debility due to excessive semen loss; if so which is the best dose, i am thinking 30c would be a good dose to start off with?
below is the information i have been able to find on avena sativa;
"Physiological Action—Its selective influence is directly upon the brain and upon the nutritive functions of the organism, increasing nerve force and improving the nutrition of the entire system. The influence of a single full dose is promptly felt, similar to the influence of any active stimulant, but more permanent. It is a stimulant, sedative and direct nutritive tonic, apparently restoring the wasted elements of nerve force.
Specific Symptomatology—The following indications for the use of this remedy are given by King: Spasmodic and nervous disorders, with exhaustion; the nervous debility of convalescence, cardiac weakness, from nervous exhaustion; spermatorrhea, with the nervous erythism of debility. In general neurasthenia it promptly relieves the almost unbearable occipital headache, so constant, and evidenced by an enormous waste of the phosphates in the urine, common with nervous exhaustion.
It is a remedy of great utility in loss of nerve power and in muscular feebleness from lack of nerve force.
In the overworked conditions of brain workers-ministers, physicians or lawyers—in the general prostration from great anxiety and worry, it acts in the same lines as phosphorus and in many cases fully as satisfactorily.
With these, there is so-called nervous dyspepsia, atonicity, in fact, of the entire gastrointestinal tract. There is heart feebleness with some irregularity; there is cool skin and cool or cold extremities: there is melancholia, irritability, peevishness, vagaries of thought, morbid desires and fancies, usually accompanied with autotoxemia which demands persistent elimination. With these avena is directly indicated.
In sexual neurasthenia it is the remedy par excellence, as it has a selective influence upon the nerve structure of the genito-urinary apparatus. "

Kami,

I'm not a homeopath but I have used Avena off and on for years and can attest to its effectiveness. As a woman, I can tell you that it builds up your energy from the inside out and certainly strengthens your resolve while feeding the nerves. I have never taken it in homepathic form. It might be an interesting way to feel the more mental components of it. I've always been advised to take it in plain tincture form. The dose schedule is 30 drops in warm water upon rising and around noon. Then 30 drops in COLD water at bedtime. The warm water activates the energy-giving principles and the cold water sustains the nerve-nourishment while you sleep. I learned this from a wonderful British homeopath/herbalist years ago. Avena in tincture form works best OVER TIME. It's a tonic and, thus, needs time to work its way into the body. I know that taking more of it at any given time is worthless as small doses should be taken to benefit from it.

As for debility to excessive semen loss, I know that from my studies, there is really no better herb. Other herbs that relate to this problem include schizandra, lycium, dendrobium and, of course, the ginsengs (Panax, American and Siberian.) But all of these work via different mechanisms. For example, schizandra works via supporting and detoxing the liver; dendrobium works to replenish lost moisture and spent fluids (semen).

I've been a researcher and user of natural remedies for years and have helped many people but I'm not a "professional" or doctor.

Thank you for your kind words. Natural medicine fascinates me. It always has since I was a child and watched how effective a freshly chewed plantain poultice was on a bee sting to draw out the poison. Allopathic medicine simply doesn't interest me as the complications are far too disheartening. I believe from my studies and use of herbs that preventative maintenance with herbs and sometimes carefully chosen homeopathics, is the way to go. To try and "fix" the problem once it arrives is more difficult (but CAN be done.) Starting off with a strong body is key. That's why I'm so much more into learning about the great Tonics in our plant world. I buy books from old book stores around the country and read everything I can about Tonic herbs. I'm convinced that by building one's reserves slowly over time, there is no telling what physical ailments can be reversed. Just last month, a good friend of mine who I'd suggested several top-notch tonic herbs to (and who has been taking these herbs for almost two years) told me that his fungal infection in his toe "disappeared." The herbs I suggested were not meant to get rid of the fungus, but to simply propel the body back into balance so that his BODY could fight the war and create balance.

I'm still fascinated with homeopathy as I do believe the mind rules the heart and the body. One must have access to good homepathic counselinig to determine what remedy can spur one's mind to reverse the false stories we tell ourselves (the tribal beliefs) that only lead us to physical ruin. I have seen how my own mind can tell me stories that are not true but when I've been in a state of stress or anger, the stories seem real and the outcome I put on these stories turns into "reality" when that is not reality at all. But then one gets into a discussion on what is real and what is illusion and this thread could go on for years!!

Yes jane u are right.Dont stop telling peoples the benifit of herbs.The nature has produced herbs for the benift of humanity.But it needs research.Most of the people are not paying any attention to this gift of nature.
Homeopathy is a truth,it is not false.What homeopathy do,it raises the body immune system to fight against the disease,but it also needs intensive reseach.
