The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Canine Kidney failure

12 year, 11 month mixed, neutered female small breed diagnosed with glomerulonephritis, end stage, since March.

Main complaints:
1. loss of appetite or won't eat at all
2. seems hungry but can't or won't eat
3. tired frequently
4. sad frequently
5. whining,intermittently, but can't be satisfied
6. lab work 3 weeks ago showed normal bun/creatinine, proteinuria +++, low blood albumin 1.5

Eating:
1. has to be fed by hand or on floor, one bite at a time (never on a plate or in a bowl)
2. food has to be in a small bite form
3. food has to be of a certain texture, but not sure what
4. eats strange foods, certainly not kidney diet appropriate, like beef jerky, vanilla organic ice cream, peanut butter, dog liver treats
5. refuses table food, any dog food (wet or dry), home cooked dog food
6. Food likes/ dislikes have changed dramatically over the last month
7. ORIGINAL COMPLAINT WAS DUE TO INAPPETANCE, AND FROM THERE, BLOOD WORK WAS ORDERED AND SEEN WITH ABOVE ABNORMALITIES

GENERAL ATTITUDE:
1. Sad almost everyday, but has some times when she is happy, playful
2. likes to be outside in the warm weather
3. sleeping much more
4. still goes for walks, but tires very easily
5. mentally alert and responsive to commands
6. outgoing with people in the house, especially guests
7. unusually obsessed with her chew treats - doesn't eat them but requires to hide them around the house several times a day (usually, she only receives them as a special treat), and sometimes requires to have one sleeping with her

CURRENT MEDS:
enalapril, 2.5 mg daily
mirtazapine once daily
fish oil 500 mg daily
(seizure medications also for epilepsy are potassium bromide 1.1 mg every other day, and phenobarb every day - no major seizures for many years)

QUESTION:
Main concern is getting her to eat. I am not into extraordinary measures and cannot afford them. I would like to see if I can get her to eat AT ALL just to make her more comfortable, and to be able to make eating more comfortable. When she eats, obviously she has a better daily outcome and function. Please note that I will need fairly explicit instructions, as homeopathy is new to me. Thank you.
