The ABC Homeopathy Forum

2.5 female toddler constipation

My dayghter used to be very regular, most of the times, twice a day unitl she had 2 rounds of amoxixilin witin 1 month apart due two separate ear infections. After that, despite trying probitics, fiber, digestive enzimes, prune juice, raw celery and lots of liquid, she now struggles weekly at least 2 days a week. We had to insert glyceryn supositories and this gives her pain and iritates her. Im sure the antibiotics destroyed her intestinal balance. What can i do? Help!

Hi,

do you have an appt with the other homeopath yet?

What was her reaction if any to the Cal Carb?

Some questions:

1. How long has this been going on for? What do you mean
she struggles 2 days a week? Is she regular on the other
days?

2.How often does she have a bowel movement in a week?

3.What is the stool like? example- comes out and then recedes,
large hard stools that are dry, etc.

4.Any blood in the stool?

5. Is it painful to pass the stool and does she have
to strain? Is there a lot of gas pains?

6. How long has she been on probiotics? have you only
tried one brand? Was there any reaction of more regularity
when you first started on them?

Anything else going on now besides adenoids?

Have you tried Culterelle, arguably the best probiotic.

Give her Dannon plain full fat yogurt and Culterelle adult dose i.e. open up the capsule and sprinkle the Culturelle on a table spoon full of yougurt and make her eat it.

Do this 2-3 days and hopefully she will be regular again.

If not, please fill in this questionnaire so that a suitable remedy can be given.

1. What are the symptoms of the problem
2. What makes the problem better
3. What makes the problem worse
4. How are you feeling mentally & emotionally during the problem (restless, calm, weepy, want to be alone etc)
5. Are you chilly or hot
6. How is your level of energy
7. How is your thirst
8. Are your lips or mouth dry
9. If fever, are you chilly or hot
10. If fever, are you sweating or not
11. If fever, what makes you feel better
12. Your likes & dislikes in food (taste, temperature…..)
13. What medicines are you on
14. What medicines have you taken in last 6 months (dates, dose, potency)

Thankyou for checking on this question.
Yes we tried Culturelle for weeks and nothing.

1. How long has this been going on for?
It has been almost 3 months already

What do you mean
she struggles 2 days a week? Is she regular on the other
days? she soils several diapers with bunny size BM and you can see her pushing hard. After I apply a glyceryn suppositorie (which really hurts her, I think it burns) she will get unclogged and have normal BM for 2 to 5 days, then it begins the same cycle again.

2.How often does she have a bowel movement in a week? she used to be twice a week. now is daily and if she skips a day then the next day she starts straining and the bunny BM cycle starts again.

3.What is the stool like? example- comes out and then recedes,
large hard stools that are dry, etc.
When cosntipated, the first ones after the glyceryn suppository is really hard and bulky and she has to push hard. after that a lot will come out with normal/soft but well formed BM.

4.Any blood in the stool?
only once. yesterday no blood but I could tell she got a fissure as she was crying when going pipi afterwards.

5. Is it painful to pass the stool and does she have
to strain? Is there a lot of gas pains?
If she does not go every day, the following day will be painful and with lots of strain wiht only small stools coming out (soiling) I havent noticed gas too often.

6. How long has she been on probiotics? She was on them as soon as she started the antibiotics and for another 3 weeks after.

have you only
tried one brand? she started on Florastol kids then we changed to adult culturelle but no help. Is she skips one day, next day she will start struggling with hard stool she cannot evacuate.

Was there any reaction of more regularity
when you first started on them?
No reaction at all it felt as I was giving her nothing.

Anything else going on now besides adenoids?
The only other thing I could say is that sometimes she complains of neck pain. I think is somehting she inherited from me.
It is any sudden movement that creates a 'click' on the neck and is painful. It happens to me maybe 4 to 8 times a year. I had it checked and they could not find the reason and maybe is a nerve I pinch. I think she has the same as she can be laying on te bed and suddenly starts crying and tuching her neck, then she is ok in a minute. Dr said to monitor but if she seems OK short after, not to worry.
so far it has happened to her about 4 times and started just this year arounf March.

Thank you so much in advance for your help and recommendations.

Pilar

Hi Pilar,

First try Nux vomica for her and there are a couple more
close fitting remedies if this does not work. Nux Vomica will
also be good for clearing effects of drugs ( antibiotics), which
are most probably the cause of this.

Get the Nux vomica 30c. Dissolve 3 pills in a tablespoon of water.
give this 3 x in a day, stop the doses at any improvement.( edited
this, I would start when you get the remedy)

Then only give another dose if symptoms return.

You can try this 3x to see if it works, if not another remedy
must be tried.

I would suggest that you keep a food diary for her bc maybe
some things that she could digest easy before antibiotics
are causing a problem now, like milk, potatoes, etc. Just
saying keep an eye out to see if any food is taken not that
often - but given before this happens.

You are doing all the right things here. I would add in
give her a glass of warm water with fresh lemon juice in it
first thing in the morning, you can add in a little honey.
You can add in one tablespoon of flaxseed oil a day ( they have
flavored ones at whole foods.) Try a different probiotic ( I will
write you another one at whole foods later)- pricey but some
friends of mine say they like it the best-really even on forums
for people with IBS, what works for one person does nothing
for another person.

Report back on the progress.( btw PIlar, I know you are new to
homeopathy and you can only follow one prescription ( person)
at a time-it is rare that two homeopaths will agree on a
prescription- You answered my questions, so I responded. If
others respond you have to make it clear who you are following,
bc we do not work or collaborate together on here, fwi.

Best wishes,

Hi -
the name of the probiotic is Bio K,
in the refrigerated section- there are
different formulations.

Simone:

Nux v is good choice, but need not to be repeated frequently. Only 1 dose would be enough and watched for next 3 days.

Mani jee, I am following a classical homeopath
dosing procedures for childrens cough , cold,
constipation, colic and so on.

All the dosing procedures are the same- give
3 pills, wait for 5 or 6 hours, If there is improvement/aggravation-
stop dosing. If no improvement give another dose,
then if improvement/aggrvation stop dosing. And try it
the third time as the last try.

I have used this book and method on my kids and
others kids for the last 16 years.

Simone,
Calc carb worked. Gave her one dose and she is snoring much less. Still most symptoms are there but iim sure she will overgrow them.

Nux vomica. Already 4 days. Also probiotic.

Day 1 gave nux in am and prbiotic only half bottlle. Also gave her lemon juice with water. Day care reported diarrea. Conitnued with nux.

Day 2. Gave nux 3x, but no probiotic or lemon juice. Normal bm

Day 3. Nux3x. During afternoon no bm, so gave probiotic. Had small bm.

Day 4. Today. Gave her nux 3x. She did small pellets again and diaper soiling. Gave her probiotic during lunch. She is now sleppeng and had no bm today. I may need to put a glycerin sup tomorrow evening if no bm and i really dont want to.

Help! Thanks,
Pilar

Hi-

Stop giving the nux. I only meant for her to have
it the first day and to stop if there was a reaction.

So she may have had too much of nux , which
will bring back the prior symptoms. Don't worry
it will wear off.

Sounds like you got a probiotic that is working. Once
you have one that works right you need to give it
daily for a couple months to replace the flora.

Try doing the lemon juice and the probiotic tomorrow
and keep that up, maybe dilute the lemon juice a bit
more.

We have to wait a few days to see what the real
action of the nux wll be.

Hi Pilar,

I was wondering if you see any pattern in this at all-

As in, how many days and hours is she at day care?
Is there something going on there that after day 2 or so
she is not getting hydrated enough there, or they
are giving some type of snack foods you don't give, or
is she stressed out there after a day or so and not drinking
fliuds or????

It seems odd, that the suppository removes the hard stool,
but then the next few days there is normal stool ( not getting
hard ) or is there any issues going on with potty training?
At your house or the daycare. I just want to cover all bases.
