The ABC Homeopathy Forum

PMDD sufferer

I suffer from PMDD- I have tried many antidepressents with severe side effects within a day to a month of use, seen a psychiatrist, been given birth control pills for continuous use ( made me more depressed)
After going through PMS remedies I find myself the perfect sepia woman. I have been seen by a homeopath last year and given nux vomica 200 weekly. This provided 60 percent relief till she decided to go down to a more potent/ dilute dose...and then changed to gold dust thereafter that did not work at all. I am taking sepia 30c thrice daily starting from day 10-11 of my cycle but am not seeing relief specially now that day 14 ( ovulation day) has hit, I am a mess and dreading going through the rest of the cycle as things get much worse here on. My psychiatrist does not return my calls anymore since I am too sensitive to side effects of even the lowest allopathic SSRI or anti anxiety meds he has tried. I am so tired of being on this roller coaster every month with no relief in sight- writing to this forum with great hope that someone somewhere might be able to help me...

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
If you think you are a sepia women and if lower potencies of sepia have helped you earlier, it means you have to try out the next higher potency.

Take sepia 200c only three doses on a single day at 6 hours interval. This is deemed as a single wave stimulus.

You have been taking too many doses and in very small intervals that has probably made you insensitive to this potency.

Unless you raise the potency, your body will not respond.

Thank you so much for responding.
I have not tried Sepia before. My homeopath tried nux vomica 200 weekly last year- that helped a bit but not a whole lot. I was also given gold dust after this but that was completely ineffective.
I started sepia 30x this month. At first it made me very drowsy but now I think I am not able to sleep well ( only light sleep) on it and I do not see much benefit except that it has eased my constipation symptoms somewhat. What else could I try? I feel like my jaw and forehead is tight - clenched with tension all day plus the weepiness, tension, anxiety. I am dreading the coming weeks since my pmdd is so bad that I have barely 6 good days per month..

Thank you again for helping.

Please answer the following questions in a descriptive manner after careful analysis and recollection of previous experience and happenings.

1. Describe your main suffering? Irritability, depression, sad and weepy, anxious and overwhelmed every menstrual cycle starting day 13-14 and going on till day 7-8 - levels of each symptom vary during the month but there are peak symptoms at day 14, and week before period. It is now accompanied by forgetfulness and tense forehead and jaw. Fighting with spouse, mean and nasty outspokenness, interpersonal relations suffering, apathy during fights.
Social recluse during this phase, low self confidence during worst days, don't feel like talking to family or coworkers then, want to get divorced, run away from everything, curl up and die.
Not sleeping well on some of these days

Carb/ sweet and chocolate cravings, dreaming food in luteal phase, always hungry then

State the correct location.
Mind

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
Tendency towards constipation, restless legs at night when very tired, tend to bruise easily, hand tremors in evening sometimes ( like once a month)

Sitting on a wild beast that I am trying to desperately control, beast running amok and me tired of the struggle.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
Bad cramps, all over body shakes, pelvic pain, backache, edema, weepy before periods when teenager, continued into twenties, ibuprofen helped. Mental symptoms stronger after this period and I started noticing cyclic nature of mental PMS symptoms around 28 yrs of age- downhill ever since- less cramping and pain after baby ( 2yrs, C- section delivery, premature birth scare at 33 weeks) but worse mental symptoms, less normal days every month- cannot totally attribute worsening to post partum since mental symptoms have been worsening every year even before that. I had gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

Strong dejavu on some days

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
Evening for sure but not rare to wake up depressed and irritable in morning either

7. What are the things that aggravate your suffering and those that ameliorate the same? Example: time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.
suffering is aggravated by messy house, small insignificant ( when normal) triggers - somewhat ameliorated by forcing myself to be social, reading romantic books

Cause less weeping on bad days

20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others?
Listed above. Other seem to be able to cope with life better. I also take sometime to warm up to new people, but that has been getting better with age.

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?

I was given Prozac (before baby) to use during peak PMS days and I could get by with using about 1-6 pills per cycle on the really trying days. However, after the baby's birth, Things seemed much worse and so my gynecologist suggested I take it everyday. 2-3 months into doing this, I developed bad tremors and shakes and dejaVu that I did not associate with the medicine at first. An MRI and numerous neurologists later, it was figured out that the Prozac was giving me these intense side effects. Then I was put on Zoloft but it had the same effects within a month and I gave it up. Both SSRIs did help with the PMS symptoms while I was on them.

Some months later, I approached my gynecologist again and I was given birth control pills ( emoquette) to prevent ovulation and resulting PMS- I took these for about 13 days but it made the depression much much worse and I discontinued. This was around the beginning of 2013.

After a stint of trying homeopathy that did not work out, ( details in my previous posts) I a psychiatrist.

Over a single visit where I showed my mood chart over the last complete cycle, the psychiatrist diagnosed the problem as PMDD.

Example chart- starting Day 1 where 0 is best and 100 is worst score- 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10,35,20,0,0,0,0,0,100,35,30,5,5,0,0,15,40,75,35,35,100,80,100,90 (can send excel graph if u want)

The gynec. put me on the nuvaring as well for continuous use. I had the same problems with this as with the birth control pills and had multiple breakthrough and long bleeds and 10 times worse depression symptoms and had to give it up after a 2.5 month struggle.

The psychiatrist started me on Xanax/ alprazolam 0.25 mgs thrice a day as needed- this made me very drowsy and I could not drive to or from work with this- also not very effective. Next, the psychiatrist changed it to clonazepam 0.5 mgs once per night as needed- I had this for 1 day and suffered from dreadful headache the next day with only marginal symptom relief. So next I was prescribed escitalopram (ssri) 2.5 mgs to be increased to 10 mgs per day over a month. This drug made me non functional drowsy and lethargic after two days of use and I discontinued it. Took about 5 days for the drowsiness and light headedness to go away completely.

Then I tried sepia 30x, thrice daily with no symptom relief except feeling very light headed ( like I could faint and fall off the chair I was on) for this week- did not take it after yesterday morning.

22. What major diseases are running in your family?
My mom has epilepsy, sister has hypothyroidism, father has acidity problems

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance.
I am thin ( thought gained on stomach a bit after baby), sharp features, active, short hair ( this is another urge every month- to cut my hair), height 5.5', long arms, thin wrists, tend to gain weight on lower body, somewhat pear type.

(For Females)
24. If your menstrual cycles are not normal, please describe the irregularities, like pains, moods, flow type, clots etc.
not irregular, membranes in flow, bad pain and cramps for first two days of period that is ok with ibuprofen

25. What major diseases have you had in your life and when. Please write them in a chronological manner.
Fissure that would not heal for 1.5 years even after nitroglycerin, Botox and what not- small surgery done on rectum for that in 2007-2008

Nothing else.

Thank you so much for reading through and your helping hand.

You are close to sepia but the modalities of your sufferings and mentals point to LACHESIS.

You may not be a LACHESIS personality in general but when you are about to have your periods you enter into the LACHESIS state.

You may try out taking LACHESIS 200C only 3 doses, maximum each dose 6 hours apart starting day no.26 when you have the most mood swings.

Note the changes in your behaviour the next 15 days and your subsequent ovulation days ( 14the onwards).

Keep a chart of your mood swings if possible to check if the same got reduced due to the remedy.

Please take LACHESIS 200C three doses on day no.26 when you have the maximum mood swings.

Take the doses 6 hours apart in empty stomach and clean mouth. Dont take any food or water one hour before or after.

Monitor your mood swings during your next ovulation and periods.

Post response after 7 days of taking lachesis if the doses produced any response in you.

Thank you Rishimba- I will keep you posted on the progress.

You are welcome! Just to inform you, one dose would be 3 drops of remedy in some 5 ml of water slowly sipped up in clean mouth and empty stomach.

Hi Rishimba,

I ordered the remedy this morning and it is in pellet form. What is the difference/ benefit of liquid medicine vs. pellets? I will wait for your advice before I order the drops.

PMDDgrast last decade
Not a problem. You can either chew one pellet as one dose or dissolve it in some 10 ml of water and sip it up.

In case you chew, dont crush or bite into the pellet. Let it take its time to dissolve and get absorbed.

Hi Rishimba,

I took the medicine day 26 as you had suggested. When can I expect relief? It is day 28 and I am in bad shape...

I have had the same peaks on day 14, day 21 etc this month but it was surprisingly manageable this month till now and I wanted to ask you if that might have been due to the sepia I took before? At the time I took it, I saw no relief but later in the cycle symptoms seemed a bit better.
This is only the first cycle after coming off nuvaring so maybe it's that...

Today my head seems to be bursting with tension, I want to shout at the family, say meanest things, feel frustrated and have been very non- social and depressed as well these last 2-3 days. I have no peace in my mind and no focus on anything...

I will be eagerly waiting for your response.

God bless.

Please take SEPIA 200C every 6 hours whenever you have the following symptoms

'Today my head seems to be bursting with tension, I want to shout at the family, say meanest things, feel frustrated and have been very non- social and depressed as well these last 2-3 days. I have no peace in my mind and no focus on anything...'

These are typical SEPIA symptoms and I am sure would be relieved with this remedy.

rishimba last decade
Hi Rishimba,

Would this be 1 pellet every 6 hours?

Could lachesis take away the effect of sepia I took before? Because I had the worst worst ever outburst on day 28 ( still waiting for my period- my cycle goes upto 30 days usually)- I screamed at my child, broke dishes, hit my spouse, cried and cried and felt better but intensely guilty after crying- I feel I am making life hell for my family.

Sepia 30c thrice daily (5 pellets) that I used before made me very lightheaded and flatulent- I will try the 200c as you suggested, hopefully that is low enough to not have these effects...anyways these are nothing compared to the problem.

Thank you for being there and listening.

Hi,

One dose of sepia 200C would be one or two pellets placed under the tongue to be dissolved by itself. Don't chew or bite.

How long did you take sepia? Yes, its possible that lachesis may have antidoted sepia if they were taken together or within a gap of about seven to ten days.

These two remedies are inimical to each other and thus are not given together. But can be taken one after the other with a gap of some 10 days if the first one dosen't seem to work.

Now, wait for the symptoms to return and then take SEPIA 200C if required. That will take care of your mental symptoms.

Hi..

I am back again- I was very disappointed because I had no relief at all from the SEPIA.

In fact the symptoms have gone from worse to worst over the last few months with jaw tension, rage, and anxiety added to the mix.

I had partial relief from nux before- just wondering if I go back to that or try lycopodium...

Crazy half of the cycle is coming up and I am so scared for my son...because of how irritable and angry I get..

God bless for helping..

PMDDgrast last decade
I was hopeful SEPIA would help you. How many doses did you take of SEPIA?

When you think you are having the same symptoms, why don't you try another single dose of SEPIA 1M of a different brand. This time take the dose early one morning in empty stomach and sleep for another one hour.

If you feel some changes in the next two days, you don't have to take any other remedy.

You can also try Natrum Mur single dose and see if it creates a response before you next cycle.

I consulted a renowned homeopath and he has prescribed nat mur and ignatia (I think at 1M, he did not tell me). I have been taking this religiously since the end of march twice daily. the only effect it had so far was that me menses were delayed to 31 days (oh, the stretched out long depression phase before that!) and I have been feeling increasingly worse there after, even on days post menses when i expected to feel somewhat normal and more in control. I mentioned this to him and he asked me to take the same remedy thrice daily now since last week- no improvement seen so far.

I am wondering if there is no effect, why he does not change the med (its been a month) and if it is aggravation, why he asked me to increase the frequency?

So confused - lots of jaw tension like my teeth are slowly being push inwards, depression, anger and total mental restlessness- God when will this end?

Pls. help me understand how long I should wait for his medicine to work? I had more relief from nux even though that was only about 50-60%. I have now failed nux, aurum, sepia, lycopodium, lachesis and these- what else if left to try? or should i wait longer to see if persisting with this regimen helps- hopefully I will be able to hold on till then without killing myself or getting divorced first.

Rishimba,

I don't think she has the right remedy.

Desiring to cut your hair every month- seems to be a peculiar symptom.

Please look at this proving of hippocampus by the NY school of homeopathy-
see under Head-, Hair, cutting desires short or baldhttp://www.nyhomeopathy.com/seahorserubrics.htm

Here is another one- with the desire to cut hair, mentstrual problems,
aggression, aversion to own children, etc- it is the Racoon-http://homeopathyvancouver.com/wp-content/uploads/files/proc...

I went over this and there are a lot of matches to the raccoon remedy.

Mind - anger, anxiety, aversion to company, children aversion to, apathy,
joyless, weeping, sensitive to noise, DESIRE to leave home, wanting to argue
and quick to act-DESIRE TO CUT HAIR, worse after 5 pm or 8 pm

Desires warmth, is cold, has trembling hands, desires chocolate and sweets,
dull pain in forehead, and stitching pain in jaws, appetite suddenly increased,
ravenous appetite, menses pain and cramping- these are all matches with
what she has listed.
Raccoons can get into tremendous, nasty fights with each other and she also
makes a statement that this is like controlling a beast which kind of goes
with this also.

PMDDgrast,

I can understand, looking at the etiology, your homeopath had suggested NAT MUR for these symptoms. You said, all these symptoms started after your delivery and that's probably the reason for suggesting NAT MUR.

But, you are not a Natrum individual by nature. As far as I can see, you are may be a KALI CARB or ARS ALB person as you said you are a scientist, organised, meticulous and clean etc.

Now, going back to your etiology, KALI CARB covers your typical mental symptoms along with the etiology and modalities. I suggest you give this a try.

You may have taken quite a few doses of Nat mur...so wait for some days and when the time comes, please take KALI CARB 200C some 6 doses maximum, each dose every 6 hours. Take these on the worst days.

Let me know if this worked.

rishimba 9 years ago
Dear Simon717,

Let us see what's her response to Kali Carb. Meanwhile, I will solve this again and see if I come-up with something else.

Have noted your inputs.

rishimba 9 years ago
Hi Simone and Rishimba,
thank you both for your input. I thought I will write down the more prominent symptoms once again- symptoms did not start with birth of my child, they got much much worse with it. There was clear association with mensrtual cycle in the past before that but symptoms were less strong and lasted for shorter number of days. I still fought the spouse, boyfriend, family on those days.

Prominent symptom then and now would be 'escapism'- when I was in relationships, I wanted to end them, run away from most loved ones and now I want to get divorced every month.
'Instant gratification'- I want change, haircut (most frequent one), selling the house, buying new plants, shopping- I want it all NOW and I get very upset when that does not happen. This I think reflects the mental restlessness.
tension or pressure in teeth, not jaw really- the kind that would happen if someone tried to push two teeth together- this appeared in the recent past about 6 months and is like tension sensor in the body now- appears with slightest stressed feeling- I also notice myself clenching my jaws then
Strong carb cravings spread out over entire half of cycle- so much so that I am always hungry and I actually put on pounds fast during this half.

I do have dark circles ( genetic) under my eyes and have been called 'raccoon' before lovingly, if that's important.

I am also very sensitive to any words/ tones/ rudeness and cannot get over it easily- that's true all the time.

I will add more if I forgot something, thank you both for you time and help.
