medicine for vision & hearing loss due to cryptoccocal meningities.Hi,
My mother (70 years) is suffering from Cryptoccocal Meningities. Fungal has damaged her brain layer and she is in hospital. She has lost her vision & hearing power since 4 weeks before. Doctors say that this is due to dry nerves.
She was having sever headache since long long time. 1 month before it started with vomettings, now she is in her sense and tells her requirements but unable to hear & see any thing.
Is there any treatment of dry nerves for recovery of vision/hearing loss at any level.
Pl help, its urgent, as I had read that treatment shall be started as early in 1-2 weeks and we are already very late.
When she was admitted her BP was around 190/90 and now days it is 130-140/80-90.
Right Now I have received her case summary from Doctor, it is:
On CSF examination she was detected positive for Cryptococal Antigen and was started on Amphotericin. Because of late detection, increased CSF pressure leads to Optic Nerve Atrophy and hearing impairment resulting in sudden and Permanent vision and hearing loss. After 3 weeks CSF done again and still plenty of Cryptococal antigen detected so ampthotericin still continued along with aluconazle.

This is a very serious and difficult issue. But I have searched through my literature, and what I find is only 2 medications.
The question is, which of the two?
Do you know anything about her blood pressure? is it high or low?
