Sleep Apnea with enlarged Tonsils/Adenoids

My daughter is 6 year old and she is suffering from kind of sleep apnea for last 6-7 months. She has very large tonsils and enlarged adenoids.

I have completed the questionaire to answer all questions to understabd her case.

Patient ID: Sex: F Age: 6 Yrs

Please answer the following questions in a descriptive manner after careful analysis and recollection of previous experiences and happenings.

1. Describe your main suffering?
She is suffering from enlarged tonsils and adenoids since age of 2 years. Since then she is unable to breath from her nose. She is now 6 year old. Till 6-7 month back, mouth breathing was the main concern along with always blocked nose, but for last 6-7 months, she is having trouble breathing when sleeping (kind of obstructive sleep apnea).
1. While awake, there is no problem in breathing from mouth.
2. As soon as she goes to sleep, she start to have problem in breathing. At times looks like she is trying to inhale air, but whole airway seems to be blocked…then after trying for 10-12 seconds, she finally takes a very desperate deep breath to recover (breathing from mouth).
3. This happens day or night, whenever she goes to sleep.
4. She constantly has a runny nose. It starts from clear discharge and then it changes to think yellow mucus, which is very sticky and very hard to remove. We have to use a tissue paper to roll it like a thread.
5. In X-ray, her adenoids were found to be enlarged and blocking the airway.
6. Tonsils are already so big that every allopath doctor immediately suggest for an operation (will send a picture)
7. She also has nasal polyp

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
>>She seems to be tired so easily with little physical activity. Her diet is still very low..infact we have not seen any increase in her diet for last 2-3 years,
Which is not a good indication. Occassionaly she complains of leg pains after playing.
I could see some of her hair (very few) already turning grey/white.
Face looks like pale when i compare her to other kids. Always feels sleepy.
Runny nose and throat infection every now and then with mild fever

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?
>>Kids in school laugh at her because she is cleaning her nose constantly.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst?
>>I talked to her but couldn't get much informaiton on it..

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
>>I believe it all started when she was approx 2 year old. She had some stomach infection with fever and then runny nose...after that runny nose became regular (
winter or summer). Then slowly she developed enlarged adenoids and tonsils. Not sure if tonsils/adenoids are linked to her initial stomach infection/fever.
Present condition of tonsils is worst in last 4 years...we never seen such large tonsils during all those years.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
>>> Sleep Apnea is the main concern at this moment. she suffers whenver she goes to sleep (day or night)

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same?
>>Since this is something which remains constant irrespective of weather (enlarged adenoids and tonsils)..i am unable to think of anything which aggravate the
condition. but since she is a mouth breather, a hot and humid condition helps in maintaining the necesary moisture and prevant the dry mouth, which usually
complicates the already bad breathing condition.

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
>> Approx 1 year back, she used to get well whenver she used to stay at home for longer duration (during school break), but now this doesn't makes any difference.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
>>Due to mouth breathing and stuffed nose, a hot and humid conditon suits her better. I usually keep a warm mist humidifier ON during sleep time.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
- She is very talkative at home. Talk’s non stop
- Outside home, she is a very shy person. In the school, many students take advantage of her, but she still do not complaint to teacher.
Once she comes back to home, she complaint to us..but never to her teacher.
- She gets irritated very easily.
- She start crying very easily and on very small matters, but again she starts smiling easily too..mood swing
- For last few months we are observing her behavior and its getting worse…she doesn’t listen to her mother and goes into an argument every day.
Gets angry on small matters.
- Can not concentrate on her assignments. Ths is a problem since she started going to play school.
- She feels everyone who ever plays with her as her best friend. This normally doesn't happan that way and that makes her a little sad.

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?
>>She normally feels excited during thunderstorm. Want to see it..kind of enjoying...very rarely she feels like affraid (when its really bad)

- Do you like being consoled during your tough times?
>>Yes...she always want affection, just like a little baby.

- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?
>>She is affraid of sudden noises like pressure cooker whistle or firecracker sound (if in close vicinity)
Usually she is a mouth breather, so no sens of smell most of the times, but whenever her nose is open and she tries to breath, she feels a little irritation
in her nose (may be becasue she is not used to breath from nose)

- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
weeping, talking to one self etc?
>>She talks to us (family) whole day (non stop)...but when she goes outside home, she normally remains quiet.
She reorganize all toys in school, once she finishes playing, but at home she leaves everything scatterred all over

- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?
She usually feel very attached to both mother and father, till the time we are with her. If we are not with her, she not even remember any of us.
If her friend ask her to do somethng, she usually do it without even thinking about it...her only argument over it that she/he is her friend and if she
doesn't do it, that will make them unhappy and she might loose them as friend.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?
she told em that she had a dream about earth quake/tornado/volcano couple of times and these are the only things that she talks about and looks to be
worried (e.g. how we will save ourself if earth quake comes, what will happen to our home)

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions?
She usually likes salty food and most of the time junk food (burgers/garlic bread/pizza/ noodles etc). But since we have a tight control over these kinds of foods, she hardly
eaths them once a month.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?
Less...we have to ask her to drink water, once we realize that its been many hours without water.

14. How if your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive?
Less...her diet is still same as 2 years back..no increase

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?
she usually don't like spicy food, but don't know if this makes any impact on her body

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?
In winter she looks ok...but in summer she sweats a lot...specially while sleeping. Most of the time durign that weather, her head/hairs remain wet.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?
Kind of Ok

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
Sleep remains disturbed due to difficulty in breathing..she usually sleeps sideways. Occassionaly straight.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?

20. How do you think you are different from others, if at all?
Very shy...most of other kids are not as shy as her. when playing she takes utmost care not to hurt anyone. We haven't seen this behaviour in any other kind.

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?
She is currently on homeopathy medicines, but since we don’t get the prescription, we really don’t know.
Before this, she was again on a homeopathy treatment for almost 2 months. During that time doctor tried Byreta Carb/ belladonna /Lemna Minor/Bio combination 10 etc
But again as we never received the prescription, we are not fully sure what other drug was given. One benefit that we saw during this treatment was that her nose was less blocked and at times she was able to breath from her nose.
From allopathic perspective, whenever she takes antibiotic, her runny nose seems to be stopped

22. What major diseases are running in your family?
From Father's perspective:
Wife's family has a history of diabetes.
Wife and her sister have occassional problem with throat inferction and tonsils which usually recover well after a course of antibiotic.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance
Tall (taller then most of the kids of her age)
Face looks pale
Weight more or less ok (between 19 to 20 kg)
Height: slightly over 4 feet.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please let me go through your post, and I'll see what I can find.

One question, can you remember anything that happened especially before she got this problem with swollen tonsils? Forexample, she received a vaccine or any other form of conventional medicine?

I am sorry but I really can't remember anything about any vaccine or any medicine which i can co-relate with her condition

Ok, no problem.

My homeopathic program comes up with a homeopathic remedy called Lycopodium. After examining the remedies in relation to your daughter's problem, I would say that this medication fits very well. Especially the one thing that you wrote in your post, hint of gray / white hair is a very specific symptom, which is a symptom of Lycopodium. But several other symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, breathing with an open mouth, apnea, polyp, also with this pain in my legs. And more.

Suggest you give her one dose of Lycopodium 200C, one dose is 3-4 pills.
Give the medication at least a half hour before or after food. Caffeine is banned, for example coke etc..

Remember one dose, then wait 5-6 days. Then contact me again, or before if you have any questions.
The pills poured directly into the lid of the container, then into the mouth. Let the pills melt under the tongue, then swallow.

Dr P,
first dose given today. Will report back
manojgarg50 9 years ago
Today is 4th day and i though of giving a feedback..
So far no change in the condition. Her breathing problem remains as is. Sometime even we are unable to sleep, when we see her breathing with so much difficulty
manojgarg50 9 years ago
Four days is not long, and it can take up to two weeks before receiving a response. I have read through the medical history again and firmly believe that Lycopodium is the right medicine. Wait 2-3 days, if there is no reaction, give a second dose.

Dr P,
We are monitoring her condition on daily basis. I gave her second dose on last saturday.

So far so change in condition. She is still having breathing difficulty and her tonsils and Adenoids are still big as it was before. We had a X-ray done just few days back and doctor described her Adenoids as massive.
Do i need to give her any more dose ?
manojgarg50 9 years ago
Normally I would have suggested Baryta Carbonica, but I read in your reply that she had used this before.
When I read this once more it may seem as if she did this medication in a kind of combination, or am I wrong?

Combination Medications are rarely effective beyond use as emergency medicine.

If it is true what I think, try Baryta Carbonica, 200C. Give one dose, wait two days. After that, contact me again.
