20 week old has reflux, not gaining weight, hungry but can t eat, please help us
Hi, I am new to the forum. My 20 week old girl has had problems with reflux since a long time. It has gotten worse since she is 3 months old.The doctor is not happy with her weight curve and started her on Ranitidine. 1ml twice a day. She told me to stop all dairy and give her exclusively breastmilk (I pumo, she refuses to breastfeed). It does not help much.
My problem is that my baby doesn't want to eat. I am starting to get stressed about it. I know she is hungry, but when she starts eating she stops after 2-3oz, chokes, caughs, arches her back,... and does not want to take more milk. Also she gets a lot of air with the bottle (eventhough I tried a lot of different anti colic bottles). She is just not interested in eating anymore. I also have to mention she weighs only 14lbs and she only eats 23-27oz a day. Never more.
To give you all the symptoms, I cut and paste some questions you asked.
I am litteraly begging for help right now. Please can somebody help me on this forum.
1. What is the age of the child (Yr & Months)
20 weeks
2. Physical appearance (Thin, Medium, Chubby)
medium - thinner side
3. Normally, how is the child mentally & emotionally (Happy, Irritable, Restless, Silent, Active, Slow, Weepy, Clingy etc)
Extremely happy baby, smiles all the time, active, a real joy.
4. During gerd/reflux, how is the child mentally & emotionally (Happy, Irritable, Silent, Restless, Active, Slow, Weepy, Clingy, Arches his back, Folds his legs, Doesnt sleep, Wakes up frequently etc)
Baby gets irritable, restless, arches back, chokes, pushes bottle away and starts crying if I force her to feed. After feeding she puts her fist in mouth to spit up.
5. How can you calm the child (Cant be calmed, only by carrying the child, by rocking etc)
Stop feeding her and carry her.
6. What are the symptoms of reflux/gerd (Burps, Vomiting, Spiting up milk etc)
Spit ups, I can also literally hear the milk comming back up and she swallows it back down a few times when she is in my arms after the feeding. Some days she had a projectile spit up. Slimy thick saliva comes out mixed with milk after each feeding. Burps. Burps with spit up.
7. Any gas in stomach & flatulence
yes, definitely yes.
8. How is the childs stool (Solid, semi solid, liquid)
liquid to semi liquid.
9. Stool color (White, Brown, Yellow, Green, Greenish-Yellow etc)
Mustard yellow, sometimes greenish.
10. What milk does the child take (Breast, formula, a mix of both etc)
Breastmilk that I pump. Right now I am trying everything so I am putting an ounce of soy formula to keep her interested in eating. She does not tolerate dairy formula at all and the lactose free seems to make her spit up a lot too, but I am not sure if it is worse than my breastmilk since I only tried giving her 4 ounces a day. The soy formula makes her constipated and makes her poop smelling very bad.
11. How is the childs desire to feed (Always wants to feed, no desire to feed, less desire etc)
Never desire to feed except in th morning after her night. Also during her 11pm feeding she eats while she sleeps. Those 2 are ok, but I can only give her 3-5oz.
12. Is the child teething (Yes, No)
13. Where does the child sweat normally (On head, feet, palms, back, neck, not applicable)
Head, back, palms
14. Childs sweat Smell (No smell, garlic, onion, sulphur, cant describe, not applicable)
no
15. Childs sweat quantity (A lot, very little, none, moderate, not applicable)
Sometimes late evening she feels warm but no temperature. Her head and hands are very hot.

Sorry, I must have missed those 2 questions. Thank you so much for your help, I am very grateful.
12: The doctor says she is not teething. She has something white on her lower left gum. The doctor doesn t know what it is. It is hard but not a tooth. It is on the outside gum (not where teeth grow). To explain it to you, it looks like a tiny coral that grows on the skin, very tiny. (it is not coral though ;)).
15:Sometimes late evening she feels warm but no temperature. Her head and hands are very hot. and a little moist. I would say moist like if it was hot in the room except that it is not.
Last vaccination: 2 weeks ago. After the shots she sleeps usually a lot for 2 days... No fever though, just very tired.
Reflux is the same, not better nor worse.
To try to explain the problem is that after she eats, she keeps on swallowing the milk back down a few times. It always comes back up. I hiold her in my arms for more than 30 minutes and she swallows a few times. She also spits up. Even in my arms.

Please give her two doses of Colocynth 30c, 12 hrs apart and report back.
One dose is made by dissolving one pill of the remedy (or one drop, if you have liquid remedy) in half a glass of cooled, boiled water. Stir it and take one tea spoon from it.

I forgot to mention that she is very tall. She used to be in the 95-98 percentile. Since then she dropped to the 88th percentile. She measured 2 weeks ago 25.5 inches.
Just thought I would tell you this to give you more details.
Also she has craddle cap that itches her a little bit. She scratches her head sometimes.
She also has dry patches on both her legs. Above ankles outer side. Both elbows outer sides. I have been putting moisturiser but it doesn t go away. You cannot see the patches, it is just when you touch it.
Finally, she is a little swollen under her bellybutton. Imagine taht you put a tight diaper and after you take it out, it is a little swollen above it (although I always let the diaper loose).
I don t think there are any more details I can think right now.
Just tought I would mention these few facts. I don t know if

Dear Fitness,
Here is an update:
She has more appetite, she wants to eat very often. Small amounts but often. At the end of the day she takes in more than before.
Her spit up is not better.
One very bizarre thing is that the milk she spits up is now sour (like it is digested). Even if I just fed her 5 minutes ago, she spits up sour milk...
Anyways now at least she is hungry. If you could just help me to make it stay in the stomach ;)
Also, she loves drinking the water (with the homeopathy). It is very easy to give it to her. It is the first time I gave her water.
Should I continue with the colocynth? I just gave one dose twice, 12 hours apart.
All the best.

I did not give her anything today. I am still waiting for your response. The spit ups continue but she is still hungry.
Can you let me know if I need to continue the colocynth?
Thank you so very much.

Hi doctor, hope everything is good with you.
Here is an update.
1 day after the colocyth, my daughter was spitting up sour milk. less and less everyday. She was hungry all the time.
One very strange thing happened and it is still going on. After every feeding and also randomly without eating, she opens her mouth and grasps air, 8-9 big breaths of air. She does that all the time now. I don t know what it means. She doesn t seem bothered by it.
Also today the spitting up got worse again. She is actually very agitated when I feed her. Today was really terrible. She puts both arms up and down very fast.
Can you please let me know if there is anything you can do to help her. I don t understand because the spitting up got better every day and suddently today there was a relapse. She made herself throw up again, etc...
Thank you for your response,
All the best.

I gave her the 6am feeding. She spit up, wasn t hungry etc... As soon as I read your response, I gave her the dose. Here is an update:
Literally the feeding after the dose, the spitting up stopped and she was very hungry again.
LIKE A MIRACLE. The little spit up is sour milk again like last time.
She had a huge poop 2 hours after that.
She sleeps a lot and is tired (don t know if it has anything to do with the dose though).
I just would like to know, if she relapses again, should I give the dose? how should we proceed?
It is absolutely inbelievable the effect a little dose has on her. Thank you so very much. I don t want to self medicate, this is why I always wait for your answer before doing anything.

Oh I forgot to tell you that it is still great now. Like the last few days I had after your first recommendation. Yesterday was the only day where all the symptoms came back. As soon as you told me what to do, it disappeared again. So fast.

Good progress. If symptoms relapse and last for over 12 hrs, then repeat the dose.
We don't give doses for every minor up & down that a normal body goes through.

Hi Fitness,
Baby has been doing well so far. The spit up reduced drastically. I would say 85% better. Even more some days.
I just have 1 problem. She doesn t eat enough. When I gave her the dose of colocynth she ate 29oz but now that i stopped, I can barely put 25oz in her stomach everyday and the doctor wants her to eat between 28oz to 30oz.
Is there any way you could have an idea to make her hungry? I know that the reflux still bother her even if she does not spit up.
Please if you have any questions I would be glad to answer them.
Thank you for your help.

As soon as I give the bottle she pushes it away after 0.5oz
She is hungry so she opens her mouth but after swallowing 7-8 times she stops. Pushes the bottle with her hand. If I still put it in her mouth she spits the bottle out. So all the milk comes out (she is a clown).

Dear Fitness,
I followed your recommendations. I waited like you said. Day after day she got better. It took a few days and she was completely cured. She did have 2 episodes, and I gave her the dose like you told me to.
Since then my daughter is feeling great. She is now 8 months old. She went to the pediatrician a week ago and her weight came back to normal. She is now following her growth curve (98%)and is now exactly where she is supposed to be on the weight curve (44%). The doctor was very happy with her.
I wanted to thank you again for your help. You cured her.
I am very grateful.
From far away you managed to heal my baby.
Thank you very much.
