Dog - Fear of thunderstorm

I am fostering a dog that is very frightful of thunder and lightning. When the storm is approaching, she will sense it in the air and will start to get restlessness. During the storm with the roar of the thunder and striking lightning, she will really panic and trembles and start to pass motion and urinate on the spot.

Initially, I have given her Rescue Remedy before the storm to calm her down but it didn't work. So I have changed to Mimulus, Aspen and later to Rock Rose (could see terror in her eyes). All these worked for a short while and then the effect is not there anymore. Lately I have switched to Gels 30c which seems to calm her down alot. Just wondering if there is a sort of permanent cure for this fear.

On the physical side, she is about 10 years, a Shih Tzu. She came to me with skin problems and her right cornea seems to be opaque. Sometimes she has blood shot eyes but the affection is more on the right side. Also she has very sticky, yellow discharges from her eyes (more on the upper lids). If it is not cleaned 2x a day, these discharges will dry up and glue her eyes.

Anyone can suggest a match for this? Thanks

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Sorry forgot to add the following which might help:

her stools are rather offensive, blackish in colour and long - she passes motion daily. stools are not hard nor too soft.

she drinks large quantity of water at a time.

urine flow is also alot - I suppose that is in line with the amount of water she is taking.

quite fat - by now should be more than 7 kg.

disposition - cheerful, attention seeking, sweet temperament, gets along fine with other dogs, sleeps alot and eat alot too! loves treats. loves to roll over and ask you to scratch her or massage her.

her skin condition are normal now - used to have alot of eruptions and have very bad body odour.

dental condition is not very good according to the vet.

For the eyes: bathe them 2 times daily with Euphrasia Q. 5 drops diluted in one pint of pure water.

For the fear of thunder a lightning-Gelsemium does urinate when scared. You may also want to consider-Phosphorus 200C-1 x daily for 3 days or Phosphorus 30C-1 x daily for 5 days.

Astra, any ideas about a remedy for the color/consistency of the discharges and the opaqueness?

Forgot to add. She may be a Phosphorus dog constituntionally. If so give her Phosphorus 30C, one daily dose for 6-8 weeks, at least 6 weeks non-stop.

Phosphorus dogs-Life of the party, loves people, strangers, happy, bubbly and outgoing. Sensitive to light, noise, odor and music. Can get sensitive (irritable, angry, weepy) if not the center of attention.

Friendly and feminine with beautifully expressive eyes. Chases tail, snaps at flies, pulls on leash, or rather they walk you. LOVES to be massaged. Shiny/glossy coat. Fear of thunder and lightning although some like it and run towards it.

Loves to be groomed for hours and to perform at pet shows. Long, thin, tall, narrow bodies. Large thirst for water, and may vomit water or food within 15 minutes of being ingested.

They bleed easily. After a short nap they are refueled with tons of energy. Learns commands quickly but forgets. cannot be on their own because they need lots of attention. Seeks warmth. May bite when base of tail is rubbed. Red line across gums at the base of their teeth.

To clean the teeth-Buy raw marrow bones or turkey/chicken necks. That will polish whatever can be polished white. Must be fed raw.

Thanks for your kind response, Namaste.
With regards to constitution, I am quite hopeless. I need further advice from you to be sure that she is a Phosphorus dog.

[Phosphorus dogs-Life of the party, loves people, strangers, happy, bubbly and outgoing. Sensitive to light, noise, odor and music. Can get sensitive (irritable, angry, weepy) if not the center of attention.]
This dog loves people and she is happy but she is not a live wire cos her focus or attention is very short - after she gets what she wanted, she goes off to her corner to sleep for the next few hours. She seems to be more alert during the hours of 9-10 am and then in the night between 7-8 pm. She does not get jealous easily. If I pat another dog, she will just wait for her turn.
She loves music alot especially the sound of drums in the background.

[Friendly and feminine with beautifully expressive eyes] Yes, she certainly has these qualities except that she is having eye problems.
[Chases tail, snaps at flies, pulls on leash, or rather they walk you. LOVES to be massaged. Shiny/glossy coat. Fear of thunder and lightning although some like it and run towards it.] Heh ... heh, when she goes for her walk, it is like only for 5 mins, after that I have to carry her all the way. She will just refuse to walk, preferring to sit around and watch the surroundings. When the thunder is there, she simply loses her sense of direction and she keeps running around looking for a very dark spot to hide, sometimes whinning away.

[Loves to be groomed for hours and to perform at pet shows. Long, thin, tall, narrow bodies. Large thirst for water, and may vomit water or food within 15 minutes of being ingested.] She actually hates grooming - will run away from me when I have all the items at hand to groom her. She is really fat. So far she passes motion daily but with an offensive smell and she hasn't vomitted since the first day she came to me, ie about 11 months now.

[They bleed easily. After a short nap they are refueled with tons of energy. Learns commands quickly but forgets. cannot be on their own because they need lots of attention. Seeks warmth. May bite when base of tail is rubbed. Red line across gums at the base of their teeth.] When she was having the skin problem, she scratched alot but did not bleed. She certainly likes someone near her all the time - she feels secured that way. She seems to prefer cool or cold area - perhaps of her thick coat. She tends to have several sleeping areas. One moment she will sleep on this spot and a little while she will move to another spot (room). She doesn't bite anyone at all even in pain - only cries out.

[To clean the teeth-Buy raw marrow bones or turkey/chicken necks. That will polish whatever can be polished white. Must be fed raw.] OK, will do.
So with the above, is she still considered a Phosphorus dog?

You can try the Phosphorus 30C dosage I recommended right before a storm is coming, unless you think Gelsemium is helping the problem.

However because you said she is fat and gets lazy you may want to look into the homeopathic pictures of Calcarea Carb and Graphites. More so Graphites, especially with sticky/honey-like discharges and skin problems.

I will post again later in more detail.
She does not consitutionally match a Phosphorus dog, as far as I can tell.

Calcarea Carb-Couch potatoes who love to eat. Big-boned and pale, they move akwardly. Fat, flabby, chilly, sour smelling. Craves eggs and does not like milk. They like to sit around and observe life, because exertion is difficult for them. They may crave dirt as well. fear of change in their routine or moving to a new residence. Because of this walking them can be difficult and they prefer to stay close to home.

I have a cat that is this constitution. She is fat and waddles from spot to spot. Sleeps in one spot, gets up and flops down in another room. So I give her Calcarea Carb 200C, one dose a week or every 2. I watch and wait, then I dose. When I dose her she usually gets more energetic and fiesty.

Graphites-Fat/obese and slow, sensitive to cold, sometimes they may seem a tad dumb, They usually want to be left alone to rest, minimal interest in play. They can be left on their own. Skin problems usually in the bends of the joints that discharge a honey-colored liquid. They tend to be chilly, but are worse from heat or hot rooms and better from fresh air.

Pulsatilla-Bland, yellow or white, thick discharges.
Female dogs that are sweet, loving, nurturing, motherly. They can be clingy and needy, sometimes timid. May be so greedy for affection that they come between their owner and his/her new beau. They may move from place to place like in arthritis they may shift from leg to leg. Startle and get exicted easily and may urinate involuntarily. First in line for receiving love and worse from solitude. Always needs company.

Minimal to no thirst is an indicator and they are worse in stuffy rooms and better from open air. They do get chilly, but stuffy rooms make them appear to be hot. Dogs that bark incessantly that begins when the owner leaves. Loves butter, ice cream and fats. They always need love, tend to be thirstless and are gentle, mild, and can be moody.
