Please help, I need some sleep! Constantly Waking Toddler

Hello, I would love some advice on a remedy to help my son sleep soundly. This is my 2nd child, he is currently 22months. I am breastfeeding him still and am exhausted. He has woken every 1-3 hours since he was born. rarely he will go for 4-5 hour stretch-rarely. We bed share. When younger he was happy to be bfed back to sleep, this was manageable. but in the past few months he shrieks, screams out, tosses about and refuses to be patted back to sleep and sits up. Eventually calms down and will then feed to sleep. This seems to happen around 3-4am. It can take around an hour to settle him. It does not seem to be dreams, he doesn't appear frightened, more angry at first waking. then he is just wide awake, chatting and sitting up. If you get him up from bed, he gets upset and says he wants to go to sleep. He is very healthy, strong and quick. No vaccinations or medications. We have tried rescue remedy, belladonna, chamomilla, pulsatilla, daphne and coffea, Brauers homeopathic teething blend and their sleep and insomnia blend. He is a quiet, gentle and loving child but very active and inquisitive. Fair with blue eyes. Pulsatilla seems to agree with him the most when he is out of sorts.
My daughter 8, is a completely opposite personality and had the same sleep patterns. She finally slept through the night at around 4 years of age when she started kindergarten. I would love to get a full nights sleep before the next 2 years are up! Thank you.

Thanks for your reply and help. I am willing to give anything a go and appreciate any advice. It would be a miracle if we could get him to sleep better. both our children have slept so badly it actually puts us off having any more as it is so draining.

1. Age, weight, height

22 months, approx 13 kilos, and approx 100cms.

2. Physical appearance of the child e.g. thin, chubby, tall, short

He is tall but thin for his age group. Very lean, with long limbs. Fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes.

3. Describe the nature of the child (shy, headstrong etc. give details)

Friendly but quiet. Generally happy and pleasant personality. As an infant would cry if strangers looked at him. Got distressed by loud voices and noises. We feel bach remedies helped with this as this is no longer a problem. Very affectionate and gentle. Bright and quick mentally. Very active, almost runs everywhere.

4. Have the growth milestones (e.g. teething, standing, walking, talking etc. )achieved early, on time or late

I would say early. First tooth appreared at 4 months with another everymonth. He was nicknamed turbo teether.
Crawling 7 months, walking 12 months, talking away like crazy very understandable with some short sentences now.
Motor skills seem good, he could get the lid off of anything!!

5. What are the symptoms of the health problem

Mainly the sleep disturbance is our concern. Wakes every 2 hours, will be patted back fairly quickly or breastfed until about 4 am where he wakes almost distressed, cries, thrashes about, sometimes kicks if we try to rock or pat, then calms sits up, talks and will take a lot of time to go back.up to 2 hours. Seems tired the next day. (naps for 1.5-2.5 hours during the day, often waking after an hour and patted back to sleep, sometimes 2 hours straight.)

6. What makes the problem better without using medicines

Nothing makes him sleep longer without waking. Not stimulation, fresh air, foods, essential oils or epsom salt baths just before bed. Somethings will make him fall asleep quicker but not stay asleep any longer.

7. What makes the problem worse without using medicines

Definately noticed is worse if i drink caffeine or have dark chocolate after lunch time, and also coffea remedy seems to make him worse, more wakeful and wont fall asleep at all.

8. How is the child behaving emotionally during this problem

Seems a little more emotional or touchy during the day. At night time when waking seems very 'out of sorts', not like himself, screaming whining etc.

9. How long the problem has been there

Has always woken regularly from sleep from birth, however I would expect that from a newborn. This unsettled waking has been for about 6 months or so.

10. What is the reason of the problem in mother’s view

Have worked with many theories, silent reflux, teething, growth spurts, reaching milestones, over stimulation etc. Nothing seems to marry though as it has been everynight for months.Possibly genetic? iwas a bad sleeper until having children and my daughter was the same as this. we never found a cure for her, she just stopped when she went to kindergarten at 4 years. We thought possibly stomach problems, she had colic. At a loss.

11. How is the child’s thirst & appetite

Eats small amount continually through the day. drinks water and milk normally.
12. What does the child like to eat

Swwet tooth, bananas, apples, sultanas but loves cheese. Appears to prefer drinking to eating often.

13. What does the child dislike in food

hard to say. typical fussy toddler eater, will surprise and eat olives and salami one day but not the next.

14. Is there any strong preference of taste e.g.
sweet, salty, sour, bitter
Yes i would say sweet.

15. How is the stool & urine

Regular stool, about 1-2 times a day, soft and light brown colour. Urine no problems, regular and light coloured.

16. How is the child’s sleep

Think we've covered that ;) Bad. however i would add it seems light, easily disturbed often by someone just walking into the room. But will sleep with background noise.

17. What is the child afraid of (animals, insects, darkness, alone etc.)
As mentioned, was afraid of loud noises but this doesn't seem the case any more. Doesn't appear scared of anything.

18. Where does the child sweat normally

We live iin a fairly cool climate and it is winter here now but I would say the forehead, neck and back the most.

19. How much does the child sweat (little, moderate, a lot)

Not much at all.

20. Any problems with nose, throat, ears, chest

No very healthy.

21. Is the child normally cold or hot

Probably more cold, his hands and feet are often cold-like me.

22. Was it a planned pregnancy, if not, how did you feel on finding about it

Yes we planned and prepared for it. we did months of preconception care, juicing vitamin supplementing etc. conceived easily and
We were very happy.

23. How was the pregnancy of the mother (morning sickness, bleeding, happy, sad, tense etc)
No bleeding. Some morning sickness early on, mainly nausea-much better than my first pregnancy. Very good pregancy, only issue was the uterus pressed on a ureter blocking it which caused some hydronephrosis which was very painful for a few weeks. Kali Chlor 30C fixed this for me. Completely natural birth. Baby bruised about head from narrow pelvis. Given arnica and rescue remedy. slight jaundice.
Emotionally at about 5 months my pet dog of 16 years died and I was heartbroken and distraught, crying often. I was using rescue remedy to help with this.

24. How is the relationship of mother & father

Excellent. Married very happily for 11 years. Always Supportive, loving and peaceful.

25. What diseases run in your family (mother & father)

Husbands family: Mother is italian, dark, has high blood pressure and varicose veins. Father english, fair, is mild bi polar, suffers from anxiety attacks and skin ailments. had a nervous breakdown in early 40's.
My family: Mother is Austrian, has bigh blood pressure, a kink in a heart vein so regalar angina. Mother and sister died from sudden brain hemorrhage. she had diabetes type 2 which is managed by diet. She is insulin resistant. My father has scottish parents, has some IBS since getting older, family tend to have liver complaints, some cholesterol, are thin and live long lives with dementia towards the end.

I hope thats everything.

The only thing i would add is that
He has been exclusively breastfed and is still currently. No vaccinations or medications other than natural medicines have been used.
Thanks for your time in advance.

Also as i mentioned in the initial post, we have tried many remedies (and am always scouring this website!) so are not completely new to homeopathy but mainly use a few basics that we always keep. pulsatilla,, chamomilla, belladonna, apis mel, arnica, gelsemium, aconitum nap, kali bich, nux vomica, nat mur etc but these are usually 6x or 12x which are easier to get hold of around here. and pulsatilla and belladonna seem to have the most effect on him to help him most ailments such as teething, etc. The last remedy i tried for sleep was cypripedium tm which made no difference.

Your remedy is: Phosphorus 200c.

HOW TO TAKE THE REMEDY:
Please take two doses 12 hrs apart. Just two doses. Not daily.
Report back in 3 days with changes observed.

WHAT IS A DOSE:
If remedy is Pills/Pellets:
One dose is one pill.
Dissolve the pill in your mouth.

WHAT IS A DOSE:
If remedy is liquid:
Put one drop of the remedy in half glass of water, stir and take one tea spoon from it.
That’s one dose.

FOR CHILDREN:
If the child can't safely suck on the pill/pellets then one dose is made by dissolving one pill of the remedy (or one drop, if you have liquid remedy) in half a glass of cooled, boiled water. Stir it and take one tea spoon from it.

TIME OF DOSE:
First dose: At night before sleeping.
Second dose: 12 hrs after the first dose.
Don’t take any more dose or any other remedy unless I tell you.

PRECAUTIONS:
If there is significant worsening of symptoms (called homeopathic aggravation) after the first dose, then don’t take the second dose.
Don’t take any other homeopathic remedy during this treatment.
Give a break of at least 10 minutes before eating/drinking anything before or after taking the remedy.
During the treatment, don’t eat anything which you have never had all your life.

HOMEOPATHIC AGGRAVATION
Sometimes the symptoms for which treatment is being done can worsen after taking the homeopathic remedy. This is homeopathic aggravation and a good sign. It usually dies down within 24-48 hrs. During this time you can use any non-medicinal means to keep yourself comfortable. If the aggravation seems excessive, you can use any & all means necessary (including taking allopathic medicines) to keep yourself comfortable. Keep your homeopath fully updated if this happens.

HOW TO GIVE FEEDBACK:
A good example of how to report your progress is by giving %age improvement for all your health problems e.g.
Headache: 30% better
Low energy level: 50% better
Anxiety: 40% better
Sadness: No change
Depression: Worse
And so on list all your complaints.

EMAIL:
If you don’t hear back from me within 24 hrs, it is likely that the forum’s email didn’t work. You can send me an email by clicking my username.

GENERAL INFO ABOUT HOMEOPATHIC PRESCRIBING:
If someone is giving several remedies, without waiting to see the effect of one remedy, then it is totally against the core principles of homeopathy. Such an approach is unlikely to give permanent cure, rather it may distort actual symptoms making subsequent cure even more difficult.

Ok thank you. I will get that remedy to try. It is the weekend so it will probably take a couple of days to get and I will write to let you know what happens.

One of my family has phosphorus 3c. Would this do? Or is there a way to make this into 200c? It is in liquid form.

wwnaturo 9 years ago
3c won't work, you can't make 200 from it.

fitness 9 years ago
Ok, then I will get the 200c.
Just out of interest, I notice many on this forum use 200c potency.. We have mainly used lower potencies and generally with what i would call success. May I ask how they act differently? Please understand I don't question their recommendation. I am in no way against them or hesitant to use them, but I am very interested in understanding the workings of the medicines we use.

Its a judgment call that we make considering the case details.
