Hair Pulling Child

Our almost eight year old daughter has within the last month began pulling out the hair on her head. She has many thin and bald patches down the top center now. She has always been quiet and shy, has a hard time making decisions and often puts others first. Recently she has seemed to not know how to control her emotions and has many outbursts though cannot explain why. Has a hard time with conflict resolution. Irritable. Cannot stand it or know what to say when she thinks she has been wronged. Ie. A friend over sharing turns on her bike. Severely pouting because we asked her to take turns so they could both ride, swapping between bike and scooter. Moody. There are several things that could be bothering her though she says they do not cause her to do the pulling. Her vision suddenly changed at Christmas with no prior vision problems and she now wears glasses. She dislikes them even though many compliment her. Her eye prescription changed again within the last 6 months. We also found at the same time she has an issue with wheat gluten just like her dad who is Celiac. We took her off wheat gluten foods. She has had allergies since she was very young to pine and dust mites plus has asthma. She was on a steroid inhaler when her asthma symptoms were not improving enough and we did that for about a year. She no longer takes it but does use albuterol sometimes. She cannot tell me when she does most of the pulling but says equally day and night. I saw her once during the day absentmindedly grab a few hairs and start to pull on them. She has promised to stop, yet there are more bald spots days later and she says she can't. Picking at her skin on fingertips and toe tips since she was tiny off and on. Used to bite nails. Scratches at or picks at healing scabs sometimes. She has always been warm blooded and prefers shorts and no covers. Several moles on face and large birthmark on rear. She has had vaccinations though we do not do flu. She has always been our most calm and easy to please happy child. She is a middle child. She's a beautiful kid inside and out and it is painful to see her struggle with these things. We are new to homeopathy.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi- Here is part of an article on this
from a British homeopath.Hair twirling
This condition is known as trichotillomania. People get the impulse to twirl and pull out hair, often resulting in hair loss. They can do it on the head, on eyebrows or, if embarrassed but unable to stop, they secretly do it to normally covered body hair.

Jimmy was a nervy seven yearold who was brought along to see me. He was forever on the move, forever in conflict with his younger brother and seemed addicted to twirling and pulling out his eyebrow hair and the hair from an area on the back of his head. He was on the move as soon as he came into my consulting room. He had an extremely fast and effective response to Tarentula hispanica over three months.

Belladonna and Cuprum metallicum are two other highly effective medicines.

Your child has a lot going on and is highly anxious, going from
the skin picking to the hair pulling.

What is your general location? I can give you options of qualified
people who will be able to help her.

For children it is best that they be seen in person by the homeopath as
they need to be observed to use all the diagnostic tools. A remedy
needs to match many things, her allergies, asthma, and the anxiety-
When it matches close enough- it is called a similar. The body
will not allow what is already going on and the similar, so it raises
the life force to put everything back into balance. People often feel
mentally better, and then start clearing the physical issues in reverse
order of when they appeared. This can take awhile and her reactions
have to be monitored to see when she needs more doses of the
remedy.

I suggest you contact Douglas Brown in Portland for an appt. He has the years
of training, and experience and practices classical homeopathy ( one remedy at a time,
minimum dose) Here is the link-read the- about me portion of his site-he has the
qualifications I would want if taking my child for treatment.http://www.homeopathichealing.org/

If for some reason this does not work, I will be happy to find other options.

Thank you! We will look over the information on him. Is there a good place online or easier way to search? I'd like to see if there might be a few more. Portland could work, it would be long days for appointments. 5 hours round trip not counting the office time. Any in Corvallis/Albany/Salem would be better driving wise, but the care may not be as good.

Since you are new to this-

Online for kids is not great bc they have to be seen in person-bc you cannot
ask children the normal questions you ask an adult in the intake session.
They need to be observed.

There are a lot of naturopath Drs out there who say they do homeopathy-But unless their practice is using homeopathy 60 percent of the time
to cure cases, they are not really committed to homeopathy. Many
times they have only taken a few courses and they will do their'naturopath'
prescribing meaning leaving with lists of supplements etc and sometimes
they add in homeopathic remedies as if they are just another supplement.
It does not work that way and they often follow no homeopathic rules-
we see people on here all the time with very strange prescriptions where
they have overdosed and then find out later they were told to do this
by a naturopath.

Go to a homeopath who just does homeopathy- and preferably a homeopath
who follows classical guidelines of one remedy at a time and in the
minimum dose.

I have a list of classical homeopaths made up by other usa/Canada
homeopaths. Also once you do the first appt you can probably then do phone
calls for follow up bc they have seen and understood the childs nature.

I found one more suitable person in Eugene- This is an MD homeopath.
20 years of practice. His name is Rodney Schaeffer, MD. I don't see
a website, he has a good rating on the vitals medical review site. This
would be a solid person ( I had an MD homeopath for my kids along
with a pediatrician, and that worked out great)
