IBS in a 13 year old boy
My son,a 13 year old boy have been having symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS)for almost 2 years now. He doesn't have the classical symptom where there is a constipation followed by diarrohea. He has constipation most of the times. His stomach does not clear up in the morning. he goes to the toilet at least 2 times before leaving for the school. He still does not feel good, always complaining of stomach ache.He complains of bloating and gas too which is not released easily hence leading to abdominal discomfort. He is always worried that he may have to go to the toilet in the school. We have tried all medications, allopathic, homeopathic both from Baksons & Batra Homeopathy. We tried some other homeopaths too but not much relief. We ensure that we give him a bowl full of papaya in the evening, Isabgol with warm milk at night and glass of warm water with some salt and lemon in the morning. Off late we have been giving him 5-6 pills of Plumbum met 200 twice a day but not much relief. I was told now to give him Opium 200 thrice a day. I was going through the net and found that Nux Vomica 200 pills or Nux Vomica 30c one to two drops in water in the morning and at night might help. Please help as to how can I help my son get some relief from these symptoms.gautamC on 2014-08-25

Dear RP Tamhankar
Thank you for your response and the suggested remedy.
For the last 3 days, I was giving my son Nux Vomica- 30, 3 drops in a tablespoon of water, in the morning and at night before sleeping.
After I got your response, I have stopped giving him Nux Vomica drops. Now I give him 6 pills twice a day. I am also giving him Chelidonium Maj - Q, 3 drops twice a day in a teaspoon full water, keeping 30 min gap between the two medications.
I have stopped giving him Isabgol and also Milk. When you say Milk Products & dairy products, do you also include Curd and Paneer ( Cottage Cheese). Should I stop giving him curd and Paneer too. I am regularly giving him Yacult too.
Please advise for how long should I continue with this medication.
Regards
Gautam

Dear Mr Tamhankar
I have been giving my son Nux Vomica 30, 6 pills twice a day + 3 drops of Chelidonium in a teaspoon of water.
We have stopped giving him milk & dairy products.
Initially there was some positive response. He will pass the stools in 2 instalments in small quantities before leaving for school, although still kept complaining that the quantity of stool was too less and his stomach has not cleared fully but the positive thing was he was complaining less of stomach ache. His apetite also improved and he felt hungry. Earlier he was fussy on eating complaining that his stomach aches or he has the feeling of fullness.
However today morning he was again complaining of stomach ache. He had passed little quantity of stool.
Sometimes I feel it could be psychological too because last time when he complained about stomach ache it was his test and today again it was his test. When I told him that I can give him some antispasmodic medicine for his stomach ache. He said it is not like a regular stomach ache. It is only that when he get the feeling of passing motion and he is not able to do so and have to control the urge he gets stomach ache. He is very apprehensive of going to the toilet in the school. So just the thought that between his test he may get the urge to relieve himself and he does not do that and try to control. That feeling alone gets him the stomach ache. I feel this thought puts him into some stress and the problem starts. Some may be real, some may psychological and some induced by the stress.
Will appreciate your inputs.
