Bleeding gums in my dog

Hi
I have a 10 year old doberman and his mouth is bleeding. Its not everyday- but his gums are inflammed and he has lost 2 teeth already.
Is there some medicine that I could use for my dog.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
there could be something lacking in his diet? what food is he on?

He eats rice mixed with yougurt and bananas. This is most favorite food followed closely with rice and milk.
In addition to this he eats all kinds of fruits excepts oranges.
We do not have dog food in our country- so he eats what we eat which is most time vegetarian food.

Does he seem to drool excessively?

He drools but not excessively and he does eat meat and bones but that is like say once in 6 months.

He needs raw bones weekly to keep his teeth clean. Dogs can be vegetarians but it has to be balanced. I would suggest adding more bones to his diet and raw meat. Look for knuckle or marrow bones or turkey or chicken necks or backs. No legs or wings.

As for his mouth. Try rinsing his mouth with 2 or three drops of Calendula Q in a small amount of water. Raw carrots may help clean his teeth as well.

Avoid vaccinations.

Please indicate more. Does he have foul breath? Does he drool while sleeping? Are his teeth decaying? If so where and what does the decay look like? Does he prefer warmth or cold?

My dogs mouth stinks so bad - his teeths are decaying ,heavy tartar at base and also discolored.Where teeth is lost u can see his root canals, his gums are spongy red and brusied. He cannot chew hard food like bone or veggies. If he does it hurts his already open gum wounds and blood leask. His gums to the left side are hanging out, resembles a fold. His bleeding is on the left gums lower jaw inside where once he had teeth.

Take a look at Kreosotum. Please try and find a vet to look at his mouth in the meantime.

Puree all foods for him if need be. He needs a more balanced diet.

Dear Readers
Thank you all for the wonderful advices you have given me with regards to my dog.

I am sorry your dog passed away. I think 10 years is a long time for a dog to live. He lived a long, full, and very happy life. It was time to go home and rest.

Peace be with you.

I am interested in knowing how long you owned your dog?

We bought him home in a shoebox- he was so tiny.
We had him for 10 yrs and 3 months.

I think he lived an incredibly long time considering he never ate factotry made dog food. I give my dog very expensive and what is considered high quality dog food and she still has health problems and arthritis (for which I give her homeopathy). Diet doesn't always determine how long or how healthy any animal lives including humans. I believe often it is just time to go home.

God Bless you and God bless you with another wonderful animal to love.

Thank you for your kind words. It kinda hurts very bad right now -just an FYI we buried him besides my grandmother- to give her some good company( according to my brother)

Death of our precious dogs is always very painful. They are our closest friends. I have heard that dogs keep relatives company in heaven. So I'm sure they are together in body here as well as in spirit in heaven. Someday you will see him again too.

God may have another precious animal for you that needs a good home so keep your eyes open for one. Take care.

A little bleeding immediately following a dental cleaning is not uncommon. Also, bleeding while chewing bones is not uncommon, even when there has been no dental cleaning. In fact, the bleeding shows that the dog is stimulating the gums by chewing, contributing to overall good gum health. It is akin to us flossing - yes, we occasionally bleed, but it is good for us because it not only cleans the gums, but toughens them up.

Of course, excessive bleeding is not normal. If it occurs in very large quantities, or happens even when the dog is not chewing the bone, there could be a serious disease process at work. For example, just a couple of weeks ago, a canine patient of mine that had excessive bleeding following a dental procedure, turn out to have a life threatening clotting disorder.

So keep a close eye on her. We don't expect to see wierd diseases like clotting disoorders, but greyhounds are one of those breeds that have a greater tendecy to have obscure diseases. Best of luck you and your pooch. Greyhounds are one of my favorite breed! rw

Please give him thuja 30 in the morning and evening for 7 days and see how that affects.

One dose means..
2 Pills or drops may be given directly in mouth. Otherwise 2 pills or drops may be dissolved in some 50 ml water and he should be given few sips of the mixture. The remaining mixture should be thrown away. Fresh mixture should be prepared every time.
