Dog's anxiety of fireworks etc
Hello, and happy new year.My dog's are not happy, lol. What can I do to help them not be so concerned by the fireworks? I've heard Borax; it semi-sedates one of my dogs, and no effect on the other.
One wants to hide in a corner, the other is very clingy and wants to be at my feet constantly. Both shake, and start and become overly alert when the fireworks go off.
The one who wants to hide is the one whom Borax semi-sedates; she also is very afraid of the fireplace, and the snap-crackles of the burning wood.
Any suggestions??

Hi- You could try the Bach Flower rescue remedy
on them. Some people I know find this works
really well.
As far as remedies, it depends on the personality
of the dog-their mental, physical, emotional
make up- What makes them better/worse, just
the same as people.
If rescue remedy does not help, you could put
their cases on here for a prescription.

Okay, I'd love to find the "constitutional" for my dogs. :)
Roxy, a 4 year old female/spayed Boston Terrier. Extremely friendly, loves to be on your lap, and the center of attention. Loves to be under the blankets, curled up tight. She loves food, and eats it extremely fast. She's obsessed with *crunchy* vegetables, IE, sugar snap peas, green cabbage, bell peppers, to name a few.
She obsessively licks/washes my other dog, and the cat too. She rarely barks, only when she's playing with the other dog, almost in an antagonistic way.
She's afraid of campfires, guns, fireworks, anything that makes sudden loud noises...she's afraid of my horse(because he's so big), and sensitive to being yelled at. She usually retreats quickly to her bed and hides.
She reacts well to positive tones. She hates to be in the rain, in the water, (unless she's very hot). She hates to swim. She loves to lay in front of the heater; also loves to sunbathe.
Her favorite toys are ropes and stuffed animals, which she tears the stuffing out of and chews to bits. Also chews on the ropes, and plays tug of war. She likes to shake the rope in her mouth really fast...
Very sweet tempered, in tune with emotions of her people; gets stressed out whenever there's tension and especially when the "F" word is used!! lol
When afraid, she tries to run to the furthest corner, but also wants to be close to me, touching me if she can.
That's all I can think of for her, feel free to ask if there's anything I haven't mentioned!!
