The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Ataxia 3 year old, shaking, urgent.

Hello doctors,

My niece is 2 years old and 10 months, she first had chicken pox 10 days ago, and during that she also had a bad flu with the main symptom being a severe cough that would not go away despite 2 cough syrups given by the doctor.

She's had paracetamol during all that time for fever.

She has been refusing food and vomits once or twice a day.

Yesterday, she fell on the floor because she couldn't stand up, her legs started shaking and her hands were shaking as well, she can't hold anything normally and she can't walk straight.

It never happened before, it started yesterday all of a sudden. Even her speech seems altered.

We took her to emergency, the doctor said that 1 in 10000 gets Ataxia from chicken pox in the last days of infection. She said that the blood report came fine, didnt give antibiotics because there's no bacteria in throat, believes the ataxia is due to chicken pox and should resolve in 3 weeks, but we have to be careful at home during 1 week and take her to emergency if it gets worse.

I WANT TO SPECIFY : WE GAVE HER PHOSPHORUS 30C TWO-THREE DAYS AGO BEFORE THE SHAKING, BECAUSE HER COUGH WASN'T HEALING. COULD IT BE DUE TO THAT?

We are really really worried and devastated. We really hope it is really because of chicken pox and resolves itself.

Is there still a homeopathy medicine for this Ataxia thing please?

Thanks beforehand

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
The phosphorus may have caused this.

She may not have needed that remedy and is
having symptoms that the remedy can cause
if not needed or too much.

Phosphorus

extremities, limbs; movements and positions; incoordination;

How many times did you give the phos 30?
And how many pills or drops were used?

She had 1 pellet, 3 times a day, just for one day.

Could this have caused this???

What to do now?

Some friend of mine has advised to give Nux Vomica 200c once followed by Calcarea Phos, Ferrum Phos and Kali Phos 6x three times a day for one day?

rahman_hope 9 years ago
I would not add anything else
to the mix here, bc you are not
going to know what is going on-
especially more Phos in the form of cell salts.

I would let it be for a couple days and it should
wear off-

After a couple days if she is still having a cough
or other symptoms then you can put that on this
forum and a remedy can be chosen that matches
the remaining symptoms.

simone717 9 years ago
We have already given Nux Vomica 200c.

2 friends of us who study homeopathy regularly have advised those 3 phos. What do you say, should we try or not?

rahman_hope 9 years ago
Homeopathy is ONE remedy at a time.

She has already most probably had this reaction
from Phos 30.

Nux clears many things out of the system.

Why would you want to give her more Phos??

Wait and watch, bc nothing bad is going to
happen if you wait, but you could make things
worse by doing the 3 phos.

simone717 9 years ago
Okay, so giving her Nux is a good thing and now we should wait for a few days?

rahman_hope 9 years ago
Yes. Wait and watch for a couple days now.
200c potency can last for 2 weeks.

If you are concerned still in a couple days,
post her symptoms.

This can be treated quite easily with a medicine that suits the symptoms if she does not recover on her own.

She hasn't been vaccinated for chicken pox has she? Or come in contact with someone who has recently vaccinated?

Okay so she had just one dose of Nux 200c and now we are waiting.

She has been vaccinated at a very young age, all children get vaccinated in France. Would that change something?

Hi Rahman,

At what age did she get vaccinated? And
has she had any vaccinations recently?

What is her state today?

Any improvement in her cough, skin, ataxia,
shaking etc?

simone717 9 years ago
If she was vaccinated for chicken pox, she may have developed a kind of atypical chicken pox (more serious kind). This can happen in vaccinated children. Vaccinated children can also infect others if they were recently vaccinated, and it seems the kind of chicken pox they pass on is more virulent.

If a child vaccinated for a particular illness does manage to still catch that illness, it is often more serious then it would have otherwise been. Vaccines actually compromise a child's immune system not strengthen it.

I was asking about recent vaccination in case that was actually the reason she became so sick, rather than immediately assuming it was the remedy.

Sorry for the late reply.

But the vaccination for Chicken pox is not meant to protect from chicken pox, but rather develop a better recovery from chicken pox.

Recently, she did not have any vaccination. The vaccination for chicken pox was at a very young age, when she was a few months old.

Now she is absolutely fine. Many doctors told us that it is a very scary experience, called cerebelous ataxia caused by chicken pox, but it gets better in 4 weeks max. After 2 weeks, she was much better and from the 3rd week onwards, she was absolutely fine alhamdolillah.

I think it wasn't due to the remedy, it was due to the chicken pox virus which can in 5% cases cause cerebelous ataxia.

What was the result of using Nux-vomica?

Evocationer 9 years ago
Improvement started after Nux Vomica, but we don't know for sure if Nux helped or if the ataxia was heading towards its natural course of healing...

we still follow this post.. please do keep us informed about the child's health... though 4 years have passed.

Blessings

Hello,

Thanks for the concern.

All the symptoms subsided after 4 weeks of illness, but later she developped weak eyesight, for which she now wears glasses and has a patch therapy (patch on one eye for 4 hours).

We all have this debate in the family, some say she was born with weak eyesight, some say she developped it because of ataxia.

I believe the ataxia made her a bit slow and made her eyesight weak.

She started talking late also, at 3/3.5 years if I remember well...

If I remember well, she was an active child, but after ataxia, I always felt she was kind of slow in talking)/walking etc.

She does great at school, has great results, reads and writes extremely well.

But I do feel her speech is a little slow compared to other children, and the weak eyesight, I'm sure it was caused by ataxia.

Another symptom she has, despite being 7.5 years old, is night terrors. She has scary nightmares every single night, and has night terrors which wake her up, she cries until someone goes and consoles her, even when someone is next to her she has those night terrors/nightmares.

You can give her Thuja 200c. One dose every week for seven weeks.

Then after a gap of 4 weeks, you could do the same(one dose per week for seven weeks) with Pulsatilla 200c.

maheeru 4 years ago
Thank you Maheeru, will do that. I wait until she finishes Thuja to start Pulsatilla right? 4 weeks after she finishes Thuja, is that correct?

I will do my best to get the 200c potency, I will get it I'm sure, but in case I don't get it, is 200k okay also?

Because here in pharmacies, for the 200 potency, they sell 200k and not 200c. 200c potencies I get them from a relative who has a homeopathy box but sometimes he doesn't have all medicines. That's why I'm asking, is 200k the exact same thing as 200c?

Yes 4 weeks gap between thuja and puls. And first medicine to be taken is Thuja and after waiting 4 weeks post thuja doses, puls. course would start.

200c if not available, 200k may be used. Practically both are interchangeable.
