Wet, congested, croup in 2 month old

My son is 2 months old and is dealing with his second round of croup.

Cough is wet, barky sounding, and there is a lot of mucus I can hear in his chest but nothing is coming out. The cough is only activated if he is crying or chokes a little on my letdown in the beginning of a nursing session. Cold outside air calms him down and he breathes better versus warm air seems to make his breathing sound more rattling.


He is exclusively breastfed and when he spits up there is NO colored mucus coming up. Every once in a while the spit up is mixed with thick clear stringy mucus.

He is breathing fine with no distress but you can hear him across the room. Sounds like lots of rattling mucus and inflammation.

He is blue eyed, dark haired, and very large for his age. Over 17lbs at 2 months, face is very round and you can barely see his neck from all the chin rolls. He is a voracious eater and will nurse round the clock. Also has bouts of colic mostly in the evenings. Due to his first round with croup at 6 weeks old that landed us in the hospital he has an umbilical hernia. He has to be near me at all times and needs to be carried, favorite spot is over the shoulder. He does have periods of gas, lots of burping, and a slightly distended belly.

Not sure if this is relevant but he had respiratory issues at birth due to a fast delivery. He came out in one push and never had the mucus fully pushed out of his lungs. As a result, he required lots of bulb sunctioning in the beginning and had fast breathing for the first few hours after birth that settled down after lots of nursing.

I have many homeopathic remedies I can give him but I'm having a hard time figuring out which one is the right one. Please help!
