Have you bought Calc carb & Ruta, also?

DrKulkarni 7 years ago
Thanks Doctor.
Actually, I wanted to clarify that the dance was not a very strenuous activity as it was not like serious dance practice but casual with lot of breaks and not much dance. So, actually we cannot say that there was an improvement. Because yesterday he was trying to play basketball without brace. After 5 mins, he felt uncomfortable and had to put the brace on.
I would appreciate if you can please suggest what to take.
I have Ruta30 & Calc Carb30 with me. As he is in a hostel, he only has Ruta30, but he will be home in 2 weeks and will have access to Calc Carb30.

Thanks.

Ok. Then there are no options.
Let him take Ruta one dose daily for 3 days and stop.

Meanwhile, you get some Anacardium 30C.

DrKulkarni 7 years ago
Thanks Doctor.
He has started taking Ruta 30. Today is the 2nd day.
He just returned from playing basketball. He was playing with the brace. he said that towards the end, his right knee cap hurt for a quick second, then it went away. this pattern repeated like 3 times. Also, he has sprained both his ankles at different points, but is able to walk, but it hurts little bit. Wanted to let you know and check should he continue taking Ruta for 1 more day. or add/change any medicine.

Thanks.

Actually, the knee is fine now and it's not hurting. He has the ankle sprain in both ankles now, and it is hurting a little. He is able to walk with the brace.
Please let me know what he should take now for the torn ligament & ankle sprain.
Thanks.

Your posts did not show in my threads list and were somewhere laid at the bottom of the general forum. I accidentally saw it today. Hence the delay.

Well, first let me know knee is ok means - is he able to manage without brace now?

Used brace for what - ankle or knee?

DrKulkarni 7 years ago
So, the ankle sprain & kneecap which he hurt while playing basketball this past Saturday is fine now.
He has finished taking Ruta as you suggested. He still has to wear knee brace for playing basketball or dance for the PCL torn ligament problem.
Also, he generally has a tendency for hurting his ankle while playing basketball etc.
Please suggest what to take next.
Thanks.

He was diagnosed last month with PCL ligament tear and Posterolateral corner injury on the right knee. He had a minor injury ~1.5 years back while playing basketball, which bothered him for a month or so and then he was fine. The symptoms were pain in the right knee cap. He is able to walk normally but the right knee bothers when he runs or squats or moves side to side. He wears a knee brace or support to play basketball and has no problem playing with the brace.
The orthopedic doctor suggested to do activity modification and continue with the brace or get surgery done.

It is good for patient to provide his/her own info but the part of info supplied by your son is really inadequate and of any use.

Well, I can prescribe on available data but I myself won't be much confident about the prescription.

Let me know if you can provide some better info or shall I prescribe?

Please see more details below.

All your past and present health conditions in sequence oldest to newest. All details of previous treatments (oldest to newest) and their effects.
1. When he was 3/4 years old, he used to have frequent ear infections. Antibiotics would not clear the infection. We tried different treatments, but homeopathy treated it finally.
2. His eye prescription is very high. He had weak eyes from 2006, when he was 8-9 years old. We tried homeopathy & ayurvedic, but didn't help. He wears contacts.
3. He is prone to hurting his ankles while playing basketball, football etc.
4. He had Vitamin D deficiency in 2012. So, in summer of 2013, we gave him Vitamin D supplements. And in December 2013, his Vitamin D level was in the normal range.

Write in detail about you – emotions, fears, sentiments, etc. your personality, physical parameters, habits, feelings about life, etc.
I feel frustrated and annoyed sometimes; generally busy with studies at college; try to stress my knee less;
Sometimes when it bothers his daily activities, he can't exercise and gets irritable.
He likes all fruits, can eat any number of fruits; has a sweet tooth and likes to eat something sweet after meals; likes chapatti, daal; is generally not a picky eater. No spicy food at all for him. He likes simple bland food. He does not like to eat plain salad, or cucumber or tomato with meal. Earlier, when he was younger, he used to love eggs. But he generally doesn't like eggs now. He does not fuss, if he has to drink bitter juice, he just gulps it down. In the evenings, after he comes from playing, in summers, he would desire cold milk or something cold…like cold fruits. But in mornings and in winters, he will drink warm milk. He does not drink colas etc. But in general, he doesn't drink cold water or cold milk, or cold drinks. It has to be at room temperature.

Write in detail about your life: social, family, occupational, schooling, childhood, etc. You should mention about incidences that might have influenced or impacted your mind / health / life considerably.
I am a student, studying in college.
Father has no major health problems, and is overweight.
Mother has no major health concerns. Elder Brother is generally healthy.
In general, he keeps to himself and talks less now, answers in mono-syllables, is more irritable. He doesn’t like and gets irritated when I ask him the same question twice, or talk to him in a little loud voice. He is impatient, does not like to repeat himself. Has select group of close friends. When he was little, he was very sociable and extrovert and smiled always.
His knee problem generally gets aggravated later in the day, after continued standing, or stress on knee.

Write about what common opinions most people have about you; what most people comment /say about you frequently; how they react / interact with you & why?
His friends say he is a smart boy, gets good grades, is very focused, very competitive, independent.

Write something unique about you (how you are different from others or what makes you special).
He wants to beat his brother in grades & competitions & tests. He feels his brother is smarter than him and gets upset when we praise his brother. He is very happy when he gets better grades than his brother. He is not a shy boy and very independent.

Please let us know what other specific information is needed and we will try to provide.
Would appreciate if you can let us know what medicine to take.
Thanks.

Hello Doctor, Please let us know what to take. Thanks.

Thanks Dr. Kulkarni for explaining it in detail.
He has taken Sepia 200 one dose. One thing I forgot to mention is that with this issue, he is not able to sit in sukh asana for long.
Also, wanted to check with you if applying calendula cream on that area will help.
Will report progress on Friday. He is going back on Saturday. So, I would appreciate if you can let me know then what next dose to take, so i can ensure he takes that medicine with him.
Thanks for all the help.

For your query refer instruction No.6.

DrKulkarni 7 years ago
Today is Day 4 after he took Sepia. When he played basketball today with the knee support, it hurt and he was not really able to play much. But earlier, he was able to play basketball with knee support with no pain or very little pain. He is still having mild to medium constant pain.
I wanted to let you know, so you can advise on next steps.
Thanks.

suna711 7 years ago
Well, this indicates that the remedy has reached the proper place. We need to wait to see if it works favorably or not?
Nothing else to doo. He may just reduce exerting that knee for few days.

DrKulkarni 7 years ago
Back side of the right knee has been stiff since he played basketball on Tuesday. This is annoying him, as the stiffness is bothering him continuously. any position he keeps his knee, it is stiff & uncomfortable. He feels frustrated. He has been resting his knee with no physical activity.
Please advise on what to take next. Also, what all potential medicine would he need for the next 3 weeks.
Thank you.

I would like to put a disclaimer foremost that I am not a Doctor but I am writing from my own experience of a complete ACL tear on right knee.

First and foremost -
1. Ligament tears especially of the Knee esp. PCL will have accompanying knee strucutre damages. This is only evident from an knee MRI. I would recommend this to be done if not done in the past.

2. See if it is a partial or complete PCL tear. If partial then the chances of recovering are much better with less instability in the longer term.

3. Irrespective of complete or partial tear the first line of treatment is physical therapy

a. Full rest for the knee atleast 6 weeks

b. Quadriceps exercises tense for count 15 and relax for 5 counts. Around 50 cycles 3 times in a day. The quadriceps have to be done daily for the rest of life. This ensures that the quadriceps can take up additional load for the deficient ligament by building muscle strength.

c. Balancing exercises for the ligament deficient knee. The surrounding structures need to get adjusted to a deficient structure.

d. Later start a slow straight jog for 15 mins per day for a few days.

Assess your stability and improvement after 3 months. After this you need to go for some advanced balancing exercises and then you can decide based on the stability you attain in the knee if a ligament restoration is required or not.

It is been observed that around 30-40% of the patients if they delay the surgery by at-least a couple of years may not require it at all.

Until you develop the strength and a sense of balance in the structure around knee it is always advisable to use knee brace for any sports or rigorous activity. Else we risk the surrounding structures.

For pain management you might have to rely on some anti-inflammatory oils, homeopathic remedies etc.
But none of this will repair the Ligament.

Since the patient is extremely young and based on his interest in sports he might decide to go for reconstruction later if he is not comfortable. Of-course the rehabilitation is a prolonged one ranging from 6 to 9 months min.

At this point, it is premature to decide if the your son's knee condition is favorable or not. For time being I assume it as a positive development! Yes, I said it!
Just by common sense you can understand that complete rest (of the part, at least) is mandatory if bone and ligament repair has to take place. Ideally, this has to be manually done by immobilization or applying plaster cast or so.
In homeopathy, remedies are expected to do the repair. So, if a precisely suitable remedy is applied it might in some instances produce such conditions to bring about the most required immobilization, though not in all cases. Hence at present, I take it as a favorable change.

Indiscriminate usage of medicines can produce such conditions as side effects which is not good. But as you know I advise minimum dosage (a single one in this case) of single medicine. So, there is zero chance of indiscriminate usage. Hence, I assume present condition is favorable one.
And if I am right this may continue for few weeks (till the ligament is naturally repaired to possible levels).

If you are convinced with my theory you may wait. But there are chances, though little, that I may be wrong.
If you feel you don't want to go through this I can recommend some antidote but then probably, any chances of 'CURING' him with homeopathy will end.

Let me know your decision.

DrKulkarni 7 years ago
I am aligned with what you are saying. And, I appreciate you taking the time to explain in detail.
As per your suggestion, We got the MRI done yesterday. My thought earlier was to wait for some time before getting the MRI so we can see the improvement with homeopathy medicine. I will let you know once we get the results on Monday. That will give us a better idea on the situation.
So what do you suggest we do now. Just wait or will you be suggesting the next remedy. He is leaving very early tomorrow morning. Please let me know.

Thanks.

I think primary requirement in his case is immobilization of the knee which has never happened effectively ever since he got injured and that may be the cause of problem persisting.
If he is going to school again how will he remain immobilized?
Think over this. I am not aware of the situations at his school.

However, let me know MRI reports.

DrKulkarni 7 years ago
Immobility is very difficult to do in a college, unless the circumstances require it.
I will share the MRI report.

suna711 7 years ago
But that's very important for him.
