Cystic acne covering back
Hi, My 17 year old son has terrible cystic acne covering his back and the back of his neck. He's had it for years and we've tried everything except for roaccutain which he didn't want to try. We've tried some chinese herbal remedies with minor success, but he's going into the navy soon and is SO shy about letting anyone see his back. Any suggestions?? I read the post by a lady with chronic cystic acne, but wasn't sure if it would be the same as he's male and only 17 and it's on his back. Diet doesn't seem to have any effects. He was slightly anaemic a few years ago, feels the cold - lips go blue, won't eat fruit.Shelliemaye on 2006-02-20

Do you feel they are worse in any particular season of the year?
Any itching sensation in those acne?
Do they get filled with pus?
is there any rawness or bleeding on scratching?
Any pain?
Do the acne leave scars?
Any acne on the face, shoulders too?
Are they worse on intake of any particular food?
How is his appetite, thirst, urination, bowel movement, perspiraiton, sleep etc.?
Any past history of significant illness and treatment?
Any family history of similar complaint?
if you can give the above details an initial remedy for treatment can be suggested.

No particular season, no itching; yes to the pus; don't know cos he doesn't scratch them; no pain really unless he tries to squeeze them; yes they leave scars; used to have it on his face but that cleared up ages ago and it's just been on his back and the back of his neck for about 2-3 years, slightly worse with junk foods but not hugely. His appetite is usually VERY good; no unusual thirst; normal urine and bowel movements; perspires a bit when he's asleep although he sometimes has a problem getting to sleep and staying asleep. As far as we know, no family history.

8. How does this affect you ? i feel frustrated, like it will never go away, and depressed because I have tried so many things
9. How does it feel like ? hot to touch, swollen, painful to touch. If I try to burst them it stings and burns.

I have anger that comes and goes. I am most angry when someone says something against my family members, or takes away my right to live as i please. I am deeply emotional, and become overwhelmed when i cannot change my curcumstances. I want to be home with my children, but I am forced to work because my husband cannot find a job, and we need to pay the bills. My husband did not force me, but we had no other options. I tend to take on the hurts of other people, and have deep compassion for others. I am an artist and a musician, and it is one of my deepest passions to sing. God is my strength, and without him I would have no hope.
