Kitty with chronic upper respiratory infection

I give lysine daily. I am hoping to find cell salts treatment for him. He is a large maine coon, 16 lbs 5 years old. He has nasal congestion. I need to help him. He snuffs and sneezes and gags. Please help me. I wish I could use a bulb syringe to get the mucus out. It's awful

What is the mucous like, color, consistency?
How long has he had this?
Gag? What do you mean?

He has had this for 1 year. He sneezes and clear mucus comes out. He breathes through his nose but you can hear the congestion. Like he needs to blow his nose. Sometimes it is really bad and he has to breathe with his mouth open. When he sneezes, he then wipes and licks at his nose. Sometimes he chokes on the mucus, and throws up. I feed him in an elevated bowl. His nose is very pink and sore at times, feels hot. I can tell it hurts. We have 2 other cats and a small dog. I want to help him breathe better. Is there some way to get the snot thin or something to dry up his nose? He is miserable. I sometimes bring him into the bathroom when I shower to help but he needs help.

Has he been diagnosed by the vet?
Or had vet treatment?

I have a vet. They treated him with antibiotics and then tried prednisone drug for him. The vet said it is chronic upper respiratory disease and she gave a script of lysine powder to help his immune system. I have tried different types of lysine, treats and tablets and the best is to just open a capsule and mix it into a small amount of food. He cannot smell very good so it's hard to get him to eat.

How does damp weather affect him?

Does anything make him better?

Anything make it worse?

What kind of personality does he have?

What is his usual behavior , and things he really likes and dislikes?

You can start with cell salts nat Mur 6x and ferrum phos 6x.

Depending on results more may be given. And he could also be given a remedy if salts do not help. Questions I am asking have to do with getting more precise on salts and remedies.

Directions: dissolve 1 tab of nat Mur and one tab of Ferrum Phos in half cup of water. Use a syringe to squirt in one tablespoon. Three times a day.
Report in 3 days. If you notice symptoms get worse, stop dosing and advise.

His name is Rex. He is a rescue. He is beautiful, loves to be brushed on his face and neck. He is not a good groomer. He is a bully! I do not know if anything changes in damp or hot weather. He seems to be a snot head all the time. He eats blue indoor adult cat food. He gets 2 hairball treats. He will steal cat and dogs food if you dont watch him . He likes to play with strings like leashes and hair bands, he used to fetch but the dog ruims the fun .He is a character, he likes to open cupboards and gets in the empty bath tub, sits in any box or in or on any bags. He doesn't like loud noises. He is a sneaky cat and always has an agenda. He is so beautiful that he gets away with bad behavior. Its hard to be mad at him but he really is a jerk. I hate for him to be so sick, he just sneezed twice. He is in yhe other room, sounds like a people sneeze. Sometzimes he keeps sneezing then I go check on him.he is usually washing his face. He will come to me in the night and quietly cry near my face, I invite him up into the bed and he gets in and turns his back to me and goes to sleep. He doesnt purr often but he does make dough if he is on a soft blanket. He doenst meow. He just makes a tiny peep unless he is protesting a nail trim or hairmat removal. The mucus makes him choke and gag sneeze and cough. I am hoping a cell salts treatment can help. Something has to be out there, I cant believe there is nothing that I can do to get him over this.
