Article on prognosis after observing the action of remedies-Dr.D.Sharma

External symptoms are the only guide in the treatment of disease. All the pathological reports and laboratory finding taken together, cannot give us the true picture of the causation, nature and extent of progress of disease. Besides, the opinions on the reports may very, interpretation of these findings may be different. But symptoms have not changed. The speak a language of their own. They are the real and true indicators of the disease.
When a carefully selected remedy acts on a diseased person produces some change in the existing symptoms in the diseased state it relieves or it aggravates or it brings new features in the disease picture, If careful observation is made of the effect produced by a remedy the whole past, present and future of the patient can be predicated. It can bring before us the real in side and outside picture of the disease; This has been very exhaustively studied but simply stated by KENT, the immortal.

First Observation – A prolonged aggravation and final decline of the patient.
This indicates that the case was incurable and remedy given has been too deep and it has started destruction.
The treatment of incurable and doubtful cases should be started with a moderately low potency usually 30th serves the purpose.
In the early stages of the same patients when their condition is not so bad, the high potencies bring a sure improvement. They should be recognised by their characteristic aggravation which is long . The aggravation lasts for many weeks and then there is slow and sure improvement. Repetition of another does should be after three months.

Second Observation - Long aggravation but final slow improvement,
This indicates the beginning of definite structural change in some organ. If he feels better after a few weeks, there is a possibility of an outward manifestation of symptoms. If this outward manifestation of symptoms. If this outward manifestation of symptoms occurs, the patient will be cured. But this aggravation will continue for a very long time.

Third Observation – Aggravation is quick, short and strong with rapid improvement of the patient.
This is homeopathic aggravation which occurs in the first few days in chronic disease, after the administration of the remedy.
This is sure sign of the coming improvement of the case. In indicates that (i) either there is no change at all in the structures or organs of the patient.
Or (ii) If there is any change it is only superficial. It is only in those organs or parts of the body which are not very essential for the life of patient.

Fourth Observation – No aggravation whatsoever with the recovery of the patient.
It indicates that the remedy and its potency exactly fitted with the case. This shows that there is no change in the tissues or organs. The case was not of greater depth.
It is the best form of cure in acute affections.

Fifth Observation – The amelioration comes first and the aggravation comes afterwards.
In indicates any one of the following things (i) This indicates that the remedy was only superficial and acted as a palliative. This happens when the remedy administered was similar only to the serious symptoms of the patient reappear, it is better for the patient reappear, it is better for the patient.
Or (ii) The patient was incurable and the remedy was somewhat suitable to him.
I f after one or two three weeks of improvement the condition of the patient starts deteriorating, then a thorough examination would be made as to any exciting cause which can spoil the action of the remedy. If no cause is found then this shows that there is something very serious with the patient and probably he is incurable.

Sixth Observation – Too short relief of symptoms.
In acute disease this too short amelioration indicates that there is something in the patients condition which is interfering with the remedial action.
Too short amelioration in chronic cases means that there are structural changes and organs are already destroyed or are in a very dangerous condition.

Seventh Observation – Full time amelioration of the symptoms yet no special relief of the patient.
This happens in incurable cases. They can only be palliated or improved to a certain extent beyond which they cannot improve.
This indicates the existence of some latent conditions or latent organic conditions e.g. Lung with encysted tubercles or non-functioning kidney etc.

Eighth Observation – Some patients prove every remedy they get.
This happens in patients who are oversensitive they are often incurable. These patients can be good provers of remedies in higher potencies,
They should be treated always with comparatively low potencies, e.g. 30 200, or 500

Ninth Observation – The action of the medicines upon provers.
The constitutional state of a person who is to become a prover should be carefully noted down . The symptoms that appear in him after the administration of a remedy should be noted. The symptoms of his constitutional state do not apper during proving of if they appear they do so in a changed form.

Tenth Observation – New symptoms appearing the remedy.
Too much new symptoms indicate that the remedy was not suitable. After sometimes the new symptoms go away and the patient settles to his original state.

Eleventh Observation – Old symptoms reappear.
This is a good sign – The medicine should be left alone if the old symptoms stay for a considerable period of the medicine should be repeated.

Twelfth Observation- Symptoms take the wrong direction
If the symptoms go from less important organ to more important organ from outside to inwards this indicates that it was a wrong action of the remedy and it was a wrong selection of the remedy and it should immediately be antedoted.
E.g. After the administration of a remedy the rheumatic symptoms of joints or extremities get well and the heart is affected it is against the law of cure.
