Recent episode brought my cat into hospital, he was diagnosed end stage kidney disease for Feline. Details to follow, please help!

Hello.

My Cat is 15 years old, and has just returned home after an emergency trip to the animal hospital. They found he has elevated levels of creatinine and bun, indicating late or end stage feline kidney disease... and possibly renal failure.

He had suddenly stopped eating, and we brought him in for emergency care on Tuesday. He was very dehydrated, and had spent the last month drinking more then usual and urinating more then usual, and suddenly wasn’t eating which is why we rushed him into the animal hospital.

His creatinine and bun levels in the blood were very, very high.. 11.9 creatinine which dropped to 9.5 on the day when we brought him home. This indicates muscle breakdown from advanced kidney issues in the progression of the disease in cats.

After a day of vitamins and fluids in intensive care he began eating again on his own.

He has very quickly lost a lot of weight in the past few weeks.

We are giving him subcutaneous fluids 2x a day right now. Initially his appetite had returned, today it has decreased quite a bit. His energy was better, and overall state of health had improved dramatically after several days in cat intensive care at the hospital. IV fluids and vitamins/nutrients really helped a lot.

Today, he seems to be getting a bit worse. He is sleeping more, looks lower energy throughout the day, and his appetite is decreasing again. (he may be dying)

so we are willing to try whatever can support him and keep him alive until we can see a holistic vet on Tuesday.

Symptoms:
Rapid weight loss
Decreased appetite
Increased thirst
Increased amount of urine
Overall weakness
Lethargy
Some Weakness in hind legs
Some swelling in front left paw (1st time I’ve seen this happen, looks edema-like after his 1st subcutaneous treatment of fluids today)
High phosphorus levels resulting in some twitching about the face and ears
Lower potassium levels due to state of kidneys, contributing to the weakness.

We are VERY worried and anxious about our cat.
Please help!

We cannot get our animal to a holistic veterinarian until Tuesday.

We would love any advice for remedies that we can administer to support him.

In Addition NL 2 TEN DROPS THREE TIMES A DAY.

Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for your reply and recommendations. On this website when I click on the link for serum anguillae... there isn’t a 6c formulation, but there is a 10c, though it looks like tablets or pellets, not drops. I can dissolve the pellets in his drinking water instead.

Can I or should I use that at a 10c instead?

I live in a small town in California, and this is an uncommon remedy, so I would like to order and have it overnighted so I can start the remedies immediately.

Also NL - I’m unfamiliar - is that the name of the remedy? Please clarify.

THANKYOU!

I’m in the United States, and it is a one month wait for the NL.

If we can get the cat wanting to eat, he could wait a month... but he will continue to lose weight and muscle mass quickly. I’m looking into ordering the serum anguillae 9c in the US. Maybe I can get the other remedies individually and place them all in water. Is there a way to address the initial stages of chronic kidney disease through other more common remedies?

I’m giving nux vomica 30x in his drinking water in hopes that it may comfort whatever is happening that is creating no desire to eat..

This is a cat with a sweet and mellow temperment, likes warmth, body feels cold, he is sleeping, a lot, tired, thirsty, isn’t feeling well, lethargic, and we are giving him subcutaneous fluids daily to address his dehydration.

Thankyou.

claudini said Hello.

My Cat is 15 years old, and has just returned home after an emergency trip to the animal hospital. They found he has elevated levels of creatinine and bun, indicating stage 4 feline kidney disease.
Very little has been explained to us. We were sent home from the emergency hospital with subcutaneous fluids and instructions, shifting him from 2x daily for 5 days, to 100ml 1x daily, and then to every other day,

When he suddenly didn’t meow for food and showed a loss of appetite, had increased urine in his kitty litter, and had been drinking quite a bit more then usual, I noticed for the first time his spine felt honey, he was lighter, he had lost weight... and we just didn’t notice it happening, because he sleeps so much at home. His breed is quite passive.

we brought him in for emergency care on Tuesday. We were told he was dehydrated, they brought him into feline ICU, administered an IV & catheter, and gave him a vitamin shot. They got him eating on his own, and looking much better, when we brought him home after 2.5 days, his fur looked lustrous, he was lively and more alert, and he was more like he used to be.. a refreshed and revived kitty cat.

His creatinine and bun levels in the blood were very, very high.. 11.9 creatinine which dropped to 9.5 on the day when we brought him home. This indicates muscle breakdown from advanced kidney issues according to some reading I did online. The vets in the hospital told us to take him to our regular vet, who is unavailable. They told us he needed a formal diagnosis, but that according to his blood levels, it was kidney disease.

He has lost a good deal of weight.

We don’t know what is going on with him. We’re hearing different things from different people. He could be dying.. we just don’t know.

so we are willing to try whatever can support him and keep him alive until we can see a holistic vet on Tuesday.

Symptoms:
weight loss
Decreased appetite
Decreased energy
Increased thirst
Increased amount of urine
Overall weakness
Lethargy
Some Weakness in legs, especially upon rising
Twitching around ears, face
Likes heated places to sit (cable box, electric warming kitty bed, likes the heater on)
Elevated phosphorus levels in blood - resulting in some twitching about the face and ears
Lower potassium levels due to state of kidneys, contributing to the weakness. We’re giving him a vet supplied supplement called renal care which is a potassium gel for his food.

We are VERY worried and anxious about our cat.
Please help!

We cannot get our animal to a holistic veterinarian until Tuesday.

We would love any advice for remedies that we can administer to support him.

Hi,

I was just trying to edit my first post for clarity, it seems I didn’t do it correctly.

I started him on the Kali Mur - 6x, tonight in his water bowl, which if given the chance he’s sipping from frequently.

Today we got him to eat and he nibbled on servings of wet food throughout the day. I added a supplemental liquid into his meals meant for recuperating cats, that stimulates appetite and adds nutrition/calories.. He responded very well to it, we were happy to see him eating well and showing a strong and more normal appetite. I switched his food to something more appealing just to see if he would again eat, and it worked, he appeared hungry all day. We were pleased.

I read the symptom list of Kali Mur, and it really seemed to match very well to what I’m observing.

Tonight he seems more out of it, weaker in all legs when he gets up from laying about... he’s less responsive and less alert to me or to environmental stimulation.
This was occurring after midnight, after getting a subcutaneous fluid treatment which usually perks him up and restores some of his energy, not tonight though.

I’m concerned.

After his treatment he’s been behaving a bit strangely.. mostly wanting to lay down, not really social or seeking attention, not his usual behavior, seemingly a bit less responsive to sound of the tv or to my presence or talking to him, which usually elicits contented expressions and loving looks. Tonight he just seems to want to sleep. His facial expression is drowsy. I brought his water bowl next to him, and he gets up to drink multiple times, seems to want water, so I dosed the bowl first with the remedies as you instructed, once he drank well from the bowl I discarded and replaced with fresh water.

I then made another bowl with just the Kali Mur 6x, which is sitting in front of him. He’s still nibbling from offers of food..l checked his respiration rate out of concern and I don’t really know what the findings indicate.. the vet said cats average 24-30 breaths a minute. I counted about 19-20 a minute when I took it.

I’m worried and may sleep in here with him to stay by his side.
It’s very, very late at night, I need to sleep, and sit is extremely expensive to take him into the emergency hospital.

I have a homeopathic kit with 30 popular remedies, plus additional remedies I’ve bought over the years, we have stores in town I can buy additional remedies if they aren’t too uncommon.

Do you have any other recommendations for what to give him next? How long should I continue the Kali mur?
We’ll see how he’s doing in the morning.
