Especially for this thread, and the difficulty in finding specific plants as it grows, I have changed the search so you can search in reply titles, as well as the first post topic.

It only looks in the title though, so for example, Platanus occidentalis will get a result, whereas 'sycamore' or 'chinar' won't.

If you want to search the text of the posts, rather than just the titles, it will have to be Google for the time being, I'm afraid.

Colicroot, A bitter American herb of the Bloodwort, star grass, blackroot, blazing star, and unicorn
root is used as medicine.

Action—Emetic, narcotic, cathartic, tonic.

Specific Symptomatology—The conspicuous influence of this agent is upon the womb. It is indicated when the patient complains of extreme weakness in the uterine structures, when there is general feebleness induced from overwork or from oversexual indulgence, or from too frequent child bearing. In hyperactivity of the womb and ovaries from lack of tone, deficient menstruation, or sterility from this cause, pale insufficient flow at protracted intervals; anemia and chlorosis, with insufficient menses in young girls, the agent is of great service.

Its direct influence upon the pelvic organs is sometimes magical under such circumstances.

Description:

Action

Root is said to increase the digestive power and promote appetite. Plumbagin stimulates the central nervous system in small doses, while with larger doses paralysis sets in leading ultimately to death. The blood pressure shows a slight fall.

Plumbagin is a powerful irritant and has well marked antiseptic properties. In small doses, the drug is a sudorific; large doses cause death from respiratory failure. It is suggested that the action is probably due to the direct effect of the drug on the muscles.
