Emsam..anyone taking it?

Hello!
I have posted on the effexor withdrawl postings, but wanted to get feed back from anyone out there who might be taking this drug?

My doc took me off effexor due to my complaints about the side effects. Now she wants me to take Emsam 10 days after being off effexor.

Since I am having a hell like experience going off effexor, I am deathly affraid to try this new drug.

Anyone tried Emsam?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi. I just started taking it last night. I went in for severe depression. I guess this is a new drug that just came out this year in feb. I have been on every other anti-depressant with no hope. It hasn't even been 24 hours and I am already seeing the effects. I was on effexor xr as well, so I know how you feel. I have High hopes for this patch being that it is the last resort when all other antidepressants don't work. i will keep you posted. I am not sure I will ever be able to find this website again. LOL
I hope things go well, and like i said I started last night. today i feel more awake and less tired. but we will see

Allopathic depression drugs are most of the time sedatives with the capability to derange entire nervous system. Personally I know people who took allopathic depression drugs for quite a while and became a little bit eccentric. Possible other side effects which I have seen in those people are insomnia or too much sleeping, poor concentration, involuntary drooling, hysterical symptoms and sometimes epilepsy too.

If possible beat the depression by meditation, faith in god, appropriate diet or if its serious its better to take homeopathic remedies.

Well, I am on day 2 of the patch and don't feel much different. I had alot of trouble sleeping last night. Kept waking up every hour on the hour. My head feels much clearer, but I am now worried about the not sleeping situation. I can feel that something is going on upstaire :), but I am still not sure if it is the patch. I will keep posting and let everyone know what is going on. The symptoms you speak of maheeru are a little disturbing to me, but I am willing to take that chance. I will pay close attention and thank you for your input. I must admit it is a little scarey trying a new drug.

Hello, well I am on day 6 of the patch, and I must admit. My anger is very high. I have quit crying, but am getting very angry at every little thing. Sleeping has gotten much better. No problems there. It has taken my depression away some, but replaced it with anger. I go back to see the Doc on Halloween and am curious on what he is going to do. I would like any input from anyone else that is currently on this med or has tried the patch.

I have now been on this patch 3 weeks. But if no-one is interested, I will not post. Have a good day.

AKASNICK,

Please keep posting your results with Emsam. The reason is my mom has parkinson's disease and heard that Emsam may lower the symptoms associated with PD. thanks.

Hi, please keep us updated about Emsam.

I'm curious because I've been prescribed Effexor, Zoloft, Desiperamine for my social anxiety and depression, but do not see the benefits compared to their side effects. Emsam seems like a possible alternative

I read that MAOIs such as Nardil have always been the gold standard for people like me but that doctors do not prescribe them anymore because of possible hypertensive problems relating to tyramin rich foods (cheese, aged wines, saurkraut etc)

Emsam is a new MAOI though that apparently doesn't have the dietary restrictions of Nardil and others.
