chronic pain in thumbs and index fingers

Hello

my mother is 75 years of age. She has suffered severe pain in both thumbs for many years and last year the pain started to affect the index finger on both hands. A few months ago, I gave her 6c rhus tox and asked her to take this once a day for a week then stop for 3 weeks. The pain lessened after the week of treatment but came back again during the 3 weeks she has stopped taking the remedy so I asked her to repeat the treatment and again this helped. Is it safe to continue this strategy as she has now completed four cycles of one week on and three weeks off?
