Leg pain post bypass surgery

Good Morning,
I have tried to look through the archives here but was unable to find an answer to my question so if it has been covered before my apologies. Here is my question.
The man I am dating had quintuple bypass surgery two years ago. His recovery from this has been remarkable and he is relatively healthy now thank goodness. He has not had any major problems related to the surgery and is only on a couple of medications. One for his blood pressure and zocor and claritin for his allergies. The one side affect he does have and this is the reason for my post is this: He had an autologous graph bypass and gets these excrutiating pains in the leg where they took the veins. The pain is almost constant from a dull ache to unbearable sharp pain in his leg. The pain gets so bad at times that he wakes him from a sound sleep in a pool of sweat. I have tried to massage his leg when he it is really bad but he cant stand for me to even touch it. His doctors at the carolina heart institute and the cleveland clinic tell him that this pain could go on for 5 years to possibly the rest of his life.

His philosphy is that everything has a price and this is the price he has to pay for being alive and surviving his heart attack and surgery and is willing to deal with it.

I would like to find out from others if there are things he can take/do to help with this pain.

If anyone else suffers from this and knows of things to do to help I would greatly appreciate any information. Its hard watching someone you care about suffer.

He's 58 and generally is in good health.
I have told him that I was going to try and find a homeopathic way to deal with this but I feel I should add in here that he will NOT be willing to discontinue taking his blood pressure medicine.(The zocor is going to be reevaluated when he goes back to the doctor)

Thank you in advance.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
You have not stated if the dr has examined the leg?? If not, do so immediatly! Rule out poss blood clot.

Keep posting as there are remedies that are helpful and one need not stop other meds. Sabra

It is best to see a good homeopath.
I could suggest a remedy if the leg gets swollen and purple , if the problem is at its worst on waking and the subject is a jelous man - then low Lachesis might apply.
If the pain is due to scarring then Fluor Acid low might help .

He has seen his doctors over this and it is not a blood clot. It has to do with "stretching" his veins where they removed some for the graphs for the heart valves.

The doctors have told him he could have this pain for 5 years and possibly for the rest of his life depending on how well the veins stretch.

I dont think the issue is jealousy as he is not a jealous type of person.
He had these pains prior to me knowing him. I am just trying to find something to help relieve some of the pain for him.

Possible to be due to scarring because it is from the surgery. The doctors told him this was an after affect.

There is no particular rhyme or reason to the pains....it doesnt alway happen at night sometimes its during the day. Sometimes its when he is sitting sometimes when walking. Almost always happens if he is in a position for periods of time.

Good, no sign of blood clot. He may safely take ARNICA and HYPERICUM. There are many more, but this is good first choice. (any potency number)

Arnica is always given in any trauma case no matter how old. It may be given over a period of time. Hypericum is for nerve endings damage. Will not affect present meds.

Yes I would give together. Place a few grains or two larger balls in bottled water, shake up and a sip 4 or 5 times a day for at least a week. Do not "drink down." If one drinks a glass down it is ONE dose. a sip is also one dose. Less is better in Homeopathy. When shows improvement, cut back on sips.

For those that want to freak about two together, relax, I have done it for 40 years. Homeopathy has been offered in combos for 100 years. Don't bother to get upset with me, I will not reply.

I was taught by two old H drs for 12 years and raised 3 sons on the remedies. My home was the dr's "office" when visiting my town. Sabra

Thank you so much for the information Sabra!
I really appreciate it. Now all I have to do is order the items and convince him to take them.

I think he will be willing to give it a try as this pain has been really bothersome to him lately.

If anyone else has advise please feel free to let me know as one thing I am determined to do is find a way to make this less painful for him.

After talking to him about it I found out that he can not take the hypericum. Would the arnica alone help?

I was able to find out more about the pains source. It is from the way the doctors had to cut the muscles they tried as much as possible to cut vertically through them (along the way the muscle ran down the leg) but there were places that they had to cut across the muscles or against the grain of the muscle this is where the pain is coming from.

What is his reason?

Any substance made up Homeopathically has no ill effect upon the body. Any poison and or simple herb may be taken to benefit. People allergic to Sulfa can take Homeopathic Sulphur with no ill effects.

I have been a trained Homeopath for 40 years and I can safely say that I know more than this person. The Hypericum is vital to the pain.

So, he is consulting some person that believes otherwise? It is too bad that there is so much superstition and fears about Homeopathy, the safest medicine ever offered to the untrained public. Including well trained MDs. that know nothing about Homeopathy.

Perhaps this person is confusing PARACELSUS, a swiss physician that worked two thousand years before Hahnemann. This is a common mistake of present doctors.

Perhaps knowing it is St Johns Wort, the one consulted believes this will interfere with his other meds? I have heard it all over the years.

Yes, St Johns Wort may....IF IT IS NOT HOMEOPATHIC.

ARNICA will help. Does he know that Arnica is Leopard's Bane, a very poisonous plant? Sabra

Hi,

My mom suffers from chronic leg pain, and we have seen any number of doctors...

I have been doing (amateur) research on various types of leg pain and have put up a page with resources and links for the same at a site called Billdoll ( this page does not allow me to post the link, so please check from the home page of BillDoll - which stands for Billion Dollar Questions.

Check out if that page is of use to you - it has been put up for those suffering from chronic leg pain, but I have provided related resources as well

Hope this is of help, all the best!
