rectum smells

I am having a very embarrassing condition for more than 8 years. and
is a strange disease. I didn't call it a disease because the few
doctors I have seen about this problem could not tell what it was. I
feel it is the raw meat type of smell came out of my anus(rectum) most
of the time. It is not fart because I will not have any sensation when
it happens. Fart means we will have a sensation. The problem gets
worse after meals and bowel movements, but much better after physical
activities. Because of this embarrassing smell, I have been trying to
avoid being close to other people. My husband told me that I had a
strange body odor. But I know it is not BO but something much worse
because it is out of my control. It would be so embarrassing. I have
seen a gastroenterologist also, they thought what I am suffering is a
strange problem and did all kinds of tests like colonoscopy, endoscopy
etc. Nothing has found in the tests. They were giving me medicines for
the depression, which is not helping me either. What's exactly wrong
with me? I am an otherwise healthy woman and have no GI problem
diagnosed except for light IBS. Another relevant factor is that I
always have a light burning feeling in my rectum/anus area (though my
doctor told me I have hemorrhoids) whenever the smell is present. It
is not life threatening, but it's so embarrassing and annoying that I
would rather have a life threatening disease. I would like to know
whether you guys have any info on this disease. I feel inflammation
around my rectal and colon area. Also it will be more whenever I sit
on any chair at office or sit in my car etc. If this disease bothers
me alone, I would not have cared that much. But that odor is
bothering too much even for others. I have also found that smell comes
very often when I am under stress like if going to socialize or say if
I am meeting some new people or work pressure. This illness is leaving
me restless and sick. And I can't socialize or do anything. It makes
me like real sick. Every doctor says there is nothing but I do feel
that some smell is coming out on which I don't have any control. I
can feel the smell when I am going in a car. I can feel it but I have
no clue how it's coming out. I am not passing any gas and that I am
100% sure. I am not sure whether the smell is related to the
inflammation or not, but it makes me real sick and losing interest on
life some times. Also, I am very short tempered. If any of you can help me with any information I will
be more than grateful to you. Could somebody help me with this? So I
kindly urge you if any of you has any info please let me know or
personally e-mail me. Thanks a lot for reading through this. I really
appreciate your help. Please reply back to my given email address.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
are you sure that others can smell the odor you are smelling? do others say definitely that they do smell it too?

Yes, I have heard from other people also. Sometimes, people are getting scared to come closure. Sorry it not 'sometimes', it is absolutely 'all the time'.

do your haemorrhoids bleed or give you any problems? are you aware of them when you pass motions, walk, or at any other times?

erika last decade
I see bleeding sometimes and doctors told me it is from the external. Hence may be it could be from the hemorrhoids only. I have that coming out, mostly after I pass motion and sometimes during walking. Lot of times it will be outside only.

health1 last decade
could be the smell is only of the bleeding from the haemorrhoids? tell us more about these as there are remedies to help - are they painful? can you describe waht you feel from them - do they feel large or small? is the bleeding bright red, very little?
there are some homeopathic haemorrhoid creams usually for sale in health stores that could help also.

erika last decade
I do not have any pains out of it. But when the bleeding comes, that was red in color. I think they are little big enough. I have these haemorrhoids even before the rectum smell started. I am thinking this is not the problem. It is my complete guess. Also after I have cleaned my colon completely during colonoscopy exam, I was still getting that smell. During that exam I had fast for 3 days. I do not have any solid foods also. Wondering any kind of bacteria is living there permanently.

health1 last decade
maybe i do not understand your description of the smell accurately - i translated 'raw meat' as 'blood' - perhaps you could explain it more?

erika last decade
Sorry. I forgot to reply that. Thanks for your help. It stinks differently. Though it comes from the rectum/colon, I do not get motion smell. It smells completely different. Until one year back I used to get mud stool smell. Since one year I have started getting raw meat kind of smell. Similar kind of blood smell. Not exactly the blood smell also. Any ideas what it is? I really appreciate your help sir.

carbo-veg. may help - read up on it on abc.

erika last decade
by the way these smells you descibe do not sound unhealthy - if all your tests are clear then this is good.

erika last decade
Yes doctor. Though I am lean not a fatty person, I do not have any problems, other than this major irritating problem. All the tests are done, nothing has been found except little IBS. Usually if a normal person passes gas, we will have some sensation. Though I have some gas problems, when I move my body it will go away, but this smell I do not know when it comes, for which I do not have any control doctor. Because I do not have any sensation. That is the problem. Let me know if any.

i am not a doctor. I am glad you are healthy - this is good. a little IBS can be helped. Read about the carbe-veg. remedy and see if you think this may suit you.

erika last decade
You may not be a doctor. But you are a doctor to me. What do you mean by 'a little IBS can be helped.' That means this could have been the problem. Also I have read about the medicine. Has medicines been helped to cure for any of the patients you know doctor?

health1 last decade
by a 'little' IBS can be helped I meant that homeopathy can help IBS. I am not sure if IBS is your problem here. Carbo-Veg. is very good for burning sensation in rectum, haemorrhoids and the kind of odor you describe. If you try it and it does not help totally then other remedies can be suggested.

Will it atlest control the odor doctor? Even if it atleast controls the odor also, I am more happy. How long I shoud take it doctor and what is the dosage?

health1 last decade

'Q.I have hemorrhoids, and sometimes there's a bad odor down there. Could my hemorrhoids cause this? If so, what is the connection and how do I prevent it?

A. Yes, there is a connection. Hemorrhoids can be associated with stool retention problems or bowel incontinence (meaning you lose control of your bowels and leak). The inflamed or irregular tissue around the anal sphincter is probably what's causing this leakage to occur, so it's important for you to treat the hemorrhoids with corticosteroid creams, which will reduce the swelling. Maintaining a high-fiber diet and drinking lots of fluids is also crucial in treating hemorrhoids, because it keeps your stool soft. Taking frequent, hot baths also helps. If the symptoms persist, sometimes doctors have to go in and either surgically remove and/or band the hemorrhoids. But, if you continue to treat your hemorrhoids and take preventive measures to stop them from developing, you should be able to get a handle on the odor. "

i can't say i'm sure 100% that it is the hemorrhoids but one thing for sure i will get rid of it. it is not the cause at least i don't have to put it on my mind when i'm trying what the hell is causing this foul oder

this is a solution. it sounds like this is an enternal rectal bacteria problem #1.after every bowel clean external aswell as internal, lean with your back side to running warm bath water use lubercaint on fingers to make sure there is no bowel left in there. #2.use natural products such as white vinegar or tomato juice in a warm water enema, use warm water enema untill the water is clear, this will help to eliminate constipation aswell..#3. take at least 20mg of zinc a day. this could be found in your local food or health store..have'nt you ever heard the phrase "take zinc and don't stink"?

I have this exact same problem!!!!

I'm finding more people with it and continuing to research as we speak.

It's great to find other people with this problem by the way.

God I thought I was completely alone.

spook123 last decade
Try using a Sitz bath with warm water and a spoon of salt dissolved in it 2-3 times a day and see if this helps.
