Abcessed tooth extracted...now what?

I'm not taking the prescribed antibiotics, because I'm generally healthy and want to try to get rid of the infection naturally.

The tooth itself was a failed root canal from many years ago, and there was abcess around the root, which made it necessary to extract it. That was yesterday.

I've been taking goldenseal, echinacea, and garlic for the natural antibiotic properties, and Silicea 30C for the abcess itself. It took arnica directly before and for a few hours after the extraction.

The pain isn't getting worse, necessarily, and there isn't any marked swelling or redness (yet). I'm pretty tired (but then I got very little sleep last night) and nauseous (probably due to the herbs on an empty stomach. There is what looks to be a small amount of pus working it's way out of the hole (I can't really tell, and I don't want to dig it out and dislodge the clot).

Is the pus a sign that the silicea working? Should I stick with the silicea? Is there another remedy better suited for this problem?

I appreciate any help with this problem. I feel like I can get over this naturally but I want to give my body every bit of help I can.

Thanks, all!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
No need for antibiotics, after tooth exraction. You can try Hypericum 200, one dose, every 6 hours, four doses in all, and then stop. Don't take any other medicine ,while taking Hypericum.

Well, I never take antibiotics, so I'm glad to hear that it's probably okay. I had already accepted that I might get sick with this, but I figured I'd get over it like I do everything else.

The main concern was the abcess in the jaw all around the roots. It was really gross; the tooth came out with huge chunks of liquified tissue stuck to the roots. The dentist was afraid that the infection would drain into my body/blood/system(?) and cause serious problems, which is why I was going the goldenseal route in the first place.

Question: The whitish stuff on top of the clot. Normal? I don't know that it's pus. It could be some sort of barrier created by the body to protect the clot. I wish I could remember what the hole looked like from my impacted wisdom tooth extraction.

Also, when you say take no other medicines, does this apply to "foods" such as garlic and ginger, taken medicinally?

Thanks for the response. :)

I do not have as much infection as you described but I did have some infection before and have used ayurvedic medicines. They took care of it 100%. However, I still have to make sure I keep my teeth absolutely clean. Can't miss brushing and gargling even for one day.

I just started on Silicea 30C yesterday hoping to completely get rid of it from my system. (so I don't have to be terrified if I miss brushing once in a while - especially nights).

I believe silicea should be fine for you but I am not a homeopathic expert.

Well, in reading my books and doing the remedy-finder on this site, the two that match the most are silicea and merc-v. Since my first instinct was to go with the silicea, I think I might stick with that until I know for sure it isn't working.

I just wish I or my practitioner could have found something to clear it up while I still had my tooth. Would have made things a lot easier.

Good luck with yours. :)

For abscess you may try HEPAR SULPH. :high potency, like 1-10M if you want it to come to a head and leave to outside, to get it absorbed-low potency 12-15c.Just one SINGLE-dose.

Having said that I must add:

ask about it your homeopath-what he/she thinks

if you have allergies, are generally sensitive it may be not wise to use high pot.

Unfortunately, my homeopath just passed away. There's nobody else nearby to see about this. I only wish.

My problem with hepar sulphur is that I only have 2 potencies: 6x and 30c. I also have no way to get more besides mail order. Would either of these be appropriate?

Thanks. :)
