teachers want my son on ritalin!!

My son is a very sweet natured, highly empathetic, and extremely smart 7year old. He occassionaly (maybe once or twice a day) has a strong outburst of emotions either from humilation or injustice. He hurts himself often by accident and likes to always be moving or have something in his hands. He often vomits due to things that disturb his senses. He has very mild asthma, managed without steriods. He usually needs help following and remembering long lists of instructions, but he has a near photographic memeory for facts. His teachers, who find his intense emotions and spacial and physical needs hard to manange, have been pushing me for years to bring him to a psychiatrist, so I finally did. I am awaiting feedback. I don't want to put him on presription meds. I have been searching for homepathic remedies because we have always used them in my family and he responds well, I belive due to his sensitive nature. I am having a hard time, though, because how can you cure or correct or change someone's personality if it is not due to disease? Please any advice, parents, professionals, thank you!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
It's true personalities can't be changed, but responses that are overly emotional can be modified by Homeopathic remedies. Children respond very well to this therapy, can you find a homeopath near you?

Sounds like you were describing my son 2 years ago. He has been treated by a homeopathic Dr. that lives 3 states away via telephone. He has had incredible results from his homeopathic remedy. I suggest that you find a homeopathci Dr. to give him a constitutional remedy. My son was dramtically different in 24 hours and continues to improve. His diagnosis is ADHD. I am not sure if I can give the name of the Dr. on th is web site, I haven't read all the rules. If so, I would happilty do it. He has written many books and commonly treates people over the phone. No need to go to Ritalin, HOMEOPATHY WORKS!

Homeopathy can help but you need to see a homeopath. Although I am pleased to read of success over the phone you cannot beat the personal contact that would benefit your child and yourself. You will all benefit from treatment that gives time to you and listens to, and helps you choose your path, rather than being told what to do all the time.

4myaddguy, yes you can post the name / contact number of your homeopath, if you like.

The name of the book was Ritalin Free Kids by Dr. Robert Ullman. His number is in the back of the book but here it is. (425)774-5599. I suggest you read the book because it will give you hope and hope is important. My son could be in that book because his improvement has been that dramatic. I believe homeopaths first choice would be to see you and your son in person but the most important thing is that you connect with an experienced homeopath that knows what he is doing. I didn't trust the homeopaths in my area so I called Dr. Ullman. I couldn't be happier and I feel that we are as well cared for as if he were in our town. Our Dr. is available and easy to communicate with. We are listened to and cared for. Please keep a post of how your search for a homeopath goes and your sons progress!

TO ERIKA
Being treated via the phone by a homeopath is not how you describe. We are not told what to do all the time. I communicate thourougly with our doctor and nothing is changed in our treatment without intensive discussion and understanding. You paint an ugly picture of something that could be helping lots of people, like those with ADHD that need their own personal homeopath to give them a proper constitutional treatment. The most important thing about connecting with a homeopath is that you find one with enough experience and knowledge that they know what they are doing! Just because someone is within driving distance doesn't make them credible.

I did not mean what you thought - I worded it too short and badly. The reference to 'being told what to do' was referring to the suggestions of regular medication as a solution because others were telling that this was the best etc.
sorry for the misunderstanding, erika.

Thank you for clarifying Erika!

dear

I read the description of your son. I suggest a dose of Staphysagria 10M. than wait for a month. his sweetness, perceptiveness and sensitivity coupled with emotional outbursts point towards this remedy. ofcourse, there is nothing like a personal consultation with a good homeopath.

Ritalin stunts growth of children, says study.
New research published in the journal Pediatrics reveals that children who take Ritalin for ADHD have their growth stunted by the drug. With over a million children already being dosed with this powerful narcotic, it seems bewildering that we're only now finding out about major side effects like this one. Clearly, if a child's growth is stunted by the drug, it is causing an imbalance in the endocrine system, affecting hormone regulation. I wouldn't be surprised to find out, decades later, that our "Ritalin generation" of children have widespread reproductive disorders as well.

It's all a shame, since ADHD is a fictitious disease that was invented in order to sell prescription drugs. There is actually no such disease -- the ADHD symptoms are primarily caused by children's diets: soft drinks, refined white flour, loads of refined white sugar, and plenty of fried foods and processed foods to boot. Take a child off these manufactured substances and start feeding them real food and the "disease" of ADHD vanishes in a matter of weeks. This has all been succinctly demonstrated through a clinical study that found dietary changes completely eliminate the so-called disease.

Agree with Munish - Ritalin will do nothing but harm.

Also it will start you on a roundabout of extra pharmaceutical drugs to cope with the side effects of the previous stuff.

Diet will often accomplish much more.

OK,as a parent of an ADHD kid, I will express to samnbudsmom that once we went through all of the diagnostics to find out what was "wrong" with our son we finally had something to work with, the diagnosis of ADHD. I agree that diet can help tremendously with some symptoms however your son will be dealing with the fact that he processes things differently. He will, with you and hopefully good teachers, learn what works for him and coping techniques for area of weakness. A good homeopath to put him on the right constitutional remedy is critical. With your understanding of what ADHD is and your educating the adults around him including his teachers and again, getting him on the right constitutional remedy and making some dietary changes you can have your boy back, free from some of the behaviors that make life tough.

I have a major problem with teachers diagnosing this condition. It's completely subjective, in my opinion. Just because a student is disrupting a class (I know I did at times) doesn't mean they need medication.

What medical symptoms does Ritalin treat, then? What measurable physiological state is addressed with Ritalin? There are none, of course. Ritalin is an authority drug. It keeps children in line. It makes teachers feel less stress and parents feel less guilt. Ritalin is a mind-altering narcotic, and yet millions of children are on it today. Its purpose is not to help children, but to make life more convenient for those who manage children.

one summary of the Merrow Report: ... CHADD (CH.A.D.D.) has been distributing misleading information to hundreds of thousands of parents and teachers that exaggerates the benefits of drug therapy, including Ritalin. The result: a 500% increase in the number of children labeled and medicated since 1990.

Researchers at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign have discovered that a little time outdoors goes a long way towards reducing the symptoms of ADHD in children. Children from all over the country were observed during this study and the results showed that even children who had no previous reduction of symptoms with medication showed a definite improvement.

Some activities were conducted inside, others in outdoor places without much greenery, such as parking lots and downtown areas, and others in relatively natural outdoor settings such as a tree-lined street, back yard or park.

No teacher can diagnose ADHD. The reason I post here as a parent, not as a homeopath is to try educate parents away from giving their kids Ritalin and other drugs. When a teacher tells a parent their child has ADHD, it is then the child's parent's responsibility to find out what is really going on. Is there a learning disability, a processing disorder, ( the list is extensive)... all of which can be dealt with, without drugs!!! Get to the bottom of what is going on and get your child a good homeopath!

Thanks to all who have posted replys, I agree with each and every one of you. My son has made improvements every year as he ages and matures. He is learning to cope with emotional outbursts, spacial issues and focusing through private yoga sessions. His instructor is also a certified special needs teacher. Really our biggest challege has been getting teachers to re-think certain aspects of classroom management and how to teach so that every learning style is addressed. I consulted a homeopath who agreed that Staph was a good choice but suggested a 1M dose so that is what we have done as well. He has had a very good week and I think that he will benefit greatly by staying off meds and learning to cope. I am awaiting a follow up session with a psychiatrist, and I am fully prepared to challenge any suggestions of "ADHD" or medication.

I have a son, now 18, who's teachers used to occasionally suggest that perhaps he needed ritalin. Their only complaint with him was that they didn't think he was always paying attention. I think we are to the point where some educators see this pharmaceutical as the answer to every single challenge they face in the classroom. Just say no.

RitalinDeath.com website says kids can die from taking Ritalin.

Info for Parents of Children who are being Pressured to Diagnose and Drug their child for ADHD, Story behind our Sons Death Caused from ADHD Drug, Ritalin.
I am going to break this down into three parts, 1st the history and purpose of this website, 2nd death from Ritalin and 3rd the truth behind ADHD, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
April 15, 2001 I created this website in hopes of providing parents and guardians with information about the truth behind ADHD and the drugs used to treat children diagnosed with ADHD.
The cause was determined to be from the long-term (age 7-14) use of Methylphenidate, a medication commonly known as Ritalin.

Oh my turn to add a fact!!

In Canada the "Teachers Association" in Ontario has roughly 35-44 million Canadian dollars invested in Ritilin.

Enjoy

Tell the teacher to take the Ritalin!

Start homeschooling your precious boy and get him away from people who don't love and know him like you do.

You will be a better teacher for him anyway and he will thrive in his own home environment.

The inclination to change schools, or like you said, homeschool is great at times, especailly when he has bad days, but all in all, I do not have a spouse or partener to support us if i don't work, and I really feel the socialization of school is important for my son. Academically he is doing fantastic. Somehow, even though he's constantly moving, he manages to excell. Since the first post I've told all parties involved that under no circumstances we he be taking any medications. Here is an interesting tidbit I haven't yet shared... Someone on this thread suggested fish oil so I did some research and it sounded worth while to try. I chose flax seed oil as an alternative, but One capsule a day for the last week has been given. Here's what I saw: Buddy (my son) had incredible energy all week, but he wasn't "jumpy" or falling out of his chair. He also did not have any emotional outbursts. He did take apart my bathroom door knob because I left a screwdriver out, and was working on the bedroom door when I stopped him. But I think this was a planned and structured task. I'll keep everyone posted on his progress. I should also mention he had a (1)dose of Staph a while back and I've noticed since then he wants to go to bed earlier. All good things. Little bits at a time. Patience is the most important remedy in any situation.
