fever/cold remedy
I'm trying to decide on an acute remedy for my son. He has a slight fever, about 100. He has watery eyes,runny nose, sneezing and occasional coughing. Any help appreciated. Thanksbwill13 on 2014-12-14

give him allium cepa 6c, 3 pills, 4 times a day, for 2 days.

I have allium cepa 30c. I gave him one water dose last night, because he won't put pellets in his mouth. But wasn't sure if I should give more since its 30c?

I gave 2nd dose before my son took a nap. He woke up with his eyes watering terribly. I will not give 3rd dose.
Do you think it was coincidence or aggravation?

He was in rough shape through evening and through night his temp went to at least 103. He started to hallucinate a little. I didn't know what to do. I would've given Tylenol as last resort but he refused to take it.
Don't know where to go from here. His body is hotter than his head. No perspiration though.

There aren't enough symptoms to prescribe here, and this situation does look fairly serious.
Can you answer these questions. I will attempt to make a prescription for you.
Describe each physical complaint/associated set of symptoms in detail. Please include the following when doing this:
1. Appearance (when you look at it, exactly what do you see - shape, colour, consistency, odour etc)
2. Sensation or pain (described by the child if possible)
3. Situations/events/triggers for making it worse (when does it get worse or when is it at its worst)
4. Situations/events/triggers for making it better (what makes the symptom less or the child seem better with that symptom)
Typical catagories for this are Position, Temperature, Weather, Air, Food, Drink, Covers, Clothing, Time, Location (bed, bath etc), Movement, Carried, Company, Pressure and so on.
5. Event that seemed to start the complaint
Make sure each complaint is done separately. Do not group them together. This is for physical complaints/diseases.
As well as specific symptoms can you describe these general characteristics:
Sleep (quality, waking, position)
Appetite (cravings, aversions)
Emotional state (including any fears that are prominent)
General appearance
Thirst (cravings, intensity, how he drinks)
Sensitivity to temperature
What does he want to do to make himself feel better
What does he completely resist being done to him
Can you answer these questions. I will attempt to make a prescription for you.

His symptoms have changed since the beginning. Originally, it seemed allium cepa fit perfectly. Not anymore. During the day he seems much better but by night the fever spikes again.
1) Appearance: He looks lethargic and nose is red and crusty. Lips red as well. No more sneezing. No more watery eyes. Still congested.cough still present. Low grade fever during day. Last night it went to 103.6. It may have gotten a little higher, but thats what thermometer read.
2.) Pain: he says nothing hurts, but he is 4 so sometimes he can't explain. While fever is high, I can feel his heart racing, and his eyes look a little posessed.
3.) When at its worse: definitely through nighttime. It will fluctuate, but overall stays higher than daytime. He was hallucinating a little last night. He had fretful sleep and was talking in his sleep often, which he normally does not do. He radiates heat, but doesn't perspire. His body seems hotter than head but could be because it is covered up.
4.) Make it better: daytime. Fever comes down a little if uncovered but he wants to be covered. He wants me to be with him all the time. He is also more irritable than he was in the beginning. He is also tired. He has been sleeping a lot even during day. This is unusual for him. He doesn't normally require much sleep. He has been drinking a little but thirst isn't excessive. Eaten little as well. He will not take medicine. My husband tries at night to give him Tylenol. He refuses to take it and cries.
5.) What started: it began with frequent sneezing the day of the night fever began. That night fever started.
(Half the kids at his preschool have had these same symptoms over last 3 weeks.

Also this morning he didn't want anything cold to drink. He wanted hot chocolate and wanted his juice room temp. His appetite is poor.

Sorry to reply again but he told me his throat hurts when he swallows drink and he also just had some diarrhea.

It is likely the allium cepa only palliated or possibly suppressed the original symptoms. He seems generally worse so I would say suppression was likely.
These are the rubrics I used based on your report:
Fever, intense heat with delirium (eliminating rubric)
Dry heat with delirium (2nd eliminating rubric)
Weakness during fever
Face, lips, redness
Talking, during sleep
Fever, external heat
Covers, desires
Cold drinks, aversion
This draws my attention to the following remedies:
Belladonna 8/8
Arsenicum 7/8
Bryonia 7/8
Pulsatilla 7/8
So first step I believe is to use Belladonna 200c, one single dose, giving in liquid form.
If you instead have pillules or pellets, you will need a small bottle and a dropper to make your own liquid dose. Mix water and alcohol into this small bottle to the ratio of 5:1. Dissolve 3 pillules/pellets into this bottle. All doses will be made from this bottle.
If you already have a liquid dose just start from step 1.
1. Hit the bottle 5 times firmly against the palm of the hand
2. Place 3 drops into 100mls of clean fresh water
3. Stir very thoroughly
4. Take 2 teaspoons out into the mouth and hold for 20 seconds, then swallow.
This is one dose and the same steps should be taken for any further doses, unless I ask you to change them in some way.
If any old symptoms reappear, or any current symptoms worsen, this is a GOOD sign in most cases. DO NOT SUPPRESS them with other kinds of medication unless you are in real danger (which is a highly unlikely reaction to a remedy).
However, if you are on regular medication it is also important that you do NOT stop taking this. Once it is determined the medicine has acted beneficially, we can look at reducing such medication if safe to do so. Regular medication in this instance is NOT defined as other homoeopathic medicines which MUST be stopped.
You may give him 3 doses in total, each one separated by 6 hours (don't wake him to do this only do if possible). Do not give any dose if his symptoms are markedly better, or if they appear markedly worse. Let me know what has happened after 24 hours.

Before I got your last reply, his fever seemed to be gone. I couldn't get the belladonna until today anyway. I wasn't sure if the fever would come back through the night, but it did not. He is still stuffy, and has occasional cough but he seems to be on the upswing. Thanks so much for your help though.

Ya I don't know if it was the remedy or if it would be at this stage regardless. He is still sick, just no fever anymore.

I don't know if the Allium cepa helped, but he certainly worsened in ways that were different to the state he was in prior to the prescription. Either there was suppression, or there was a natural worsening as the disease either unaffected by the remedy or in response to the remedy. For an acute, you would not see improvement 4 days later. You would see improvement within 24 hours, and probably much sooner than that - overnight, after a sleep or nap typically. Of course chronic problems would be quite different - then 4 days may be a more normal time frame.
Unless the other symptoms I used to prescribe on have changed, you could still give him a dose of Belladonna, unless you feel he has improved enough to not need any further help in recovering?
As he moves out of his acute, he may move back into whatever his normal chronic state is. It is important not to give acute remedies when this happens, as generally speaking the remedy will also change.
Some patients during an apparent acute are actually showing an extreme version of their chronic state. In such cases what you see is just a diminishing of those acute symptoms, but they remain at a much lower intensity. It is a little more complicated than that - there will be 'chronic' and 'acute' symptoms of any remedy.
Even in an acute, you may need to respond quickly to various changes, and multiple remedies can be needed.

He does seem to be improving now. I think I will let it go this time. I need to get a homeopathy kit so I have general remedies on hand quickly.
My son has had problem after problem and I blame it on the pediatrician we took him to. I need to have a constitutional case done on him but do not have the money yet. I am trying to do whatever I can for him in the meantime to never suppress anything in his body again.

Really? I would be so grateful. What information do you need from me?
I know his vital force needs to be strengthened. Since he was about 18 months, its been one thing after another with him. I didn't know any better and allowed them to prescribe things like antibiotics many times. I'm hoping that since he's young, it will be reversible.
