Attention Issues with son- spacey, no energy

Hi there,
I'm looking for someone who works with children with attention issues, possible sensory issues, and not sure if autism/adhd is present....being tested now.
My son is 7-years-old and has a few issues that are disheartening to me. He was a very happy baby- never cried- not even if he got hurt. This was my first sign as I look back. My pregnancy was not too traumatic. I was starting to develop toxemia and he was induced a few days early. I was having a great deal of pain so the docs gave me Demerol (now feeling very bad about). I don’t remember a lot but they gave me several doses. He had to be pulled out with forceps and stopped breathing once but after that he was okay. My son had his normal rounds of immunizations for the first few years but I started to refuse more because I was terrified of the side effects. I refused the MMR, chicken pox, and all flu shots. I watched carefully for any side effects after them and thankfully, he seemed okay and no noticeable difference in health or behavior. He had asthma as a baby and fungus on almost all his toe nails when he was small but that went away on its’ own. He outgrew the asthma as well but was always pretty sickly as far as getting many colds and fevers. He gets cold sores from time to time. Always vomiting. Once he went a week or two with severe vomiting and the doctors gave him a medicine to stop it- I was told it was given for ill patients- another regret. It worked but I can’t believe I agreed. He’s always had very dry skin and for the last year, he has had eczema which I applied cortisone cream not thinking it was harmful.
Kindergarten and 1st grade went okay- academically he was doing well and he had an amazing personality. The teachers loved him- everyone loved him. He was very joyful and theatrical. But I started noticing that he would play alone and the teacher had to get other children to play with him. He seemed to be falling behind socially but I just thought he was immature compared to others and even better off because he was so happy and not serious. My son went to Hawaii (with grandma) in April of last year (2014) and upon coming back, he developed an eye tic that lasted 6 months. It was non-stop blinking and he looked so tired but never complained. That’s another thing- he never complains and always acts like everything is okay. It’s very difficult to get him to talk to me- to open up to me. Since April, his attention went downhill- his teacher told me he was having a very difficult time focusing and very hard to sit still. I assumed she was getting at ADD/ADHD. From then on, I’ve been to many doctors and have tried some natural therapies (no allopathic meds) since 2013 (except for cortisol cream months ago), but whatever is going on seems to be getting deeper- beyond the physical and it’s breaking my heart. I’ve had his eyes tested, blood work done for anemia, thyroid, allergy testing- all was perfectly normal. I had heavy metal testing and he did have off-the-chart levels of nickel and somewhat high silver and aluminum but his doctor said heavy metal testing can be inaccurate. All his other minerals were fine too. Since last year, he has less energy, gained about 10 lbs, less interest in even leaving the house. He doesn’t seem depressed at all- I know, I suffer from depression and anxiety. He just always says he’s too tired to do anything. All he wants to do is watch tv and play video games. When I pull him off, he doesn’t want to do anything else- he’s almost obsessive about the computer and tv. I try and limit but I don’t know how else to help him. I took him off all food coloring and processed foods and that helped his circles under his eyes and with a multi-vitamin he hasn’t been sick in 11 months and that’s huge for him being sick twice a month in the past. Recently he started going to a naturopath who suggested going gluten free- I’m gluten free so I thought it would be easy-not the case. He has texture issues and will gag very easily over most supplements- new foods and gluten free textures. This has resulted in less healthy gluten free options than before when we did the first diet of no food coloring, no added preservatives, and no processed foods. However, it seemed to bring a little color to his eyes- maybe a tiny bit less droopy when he first attempted gf diet but now refuses the texture again. He’s a little chunky- short, big eyes- always seems to be in dreamland and his teachers have said this too. Now in 2nd grade, his teacher adores him but says he’s not completing 90% of his work because he can’t focus. She has gotten him a chair with a little bounce for sensory kids. He always walks on his tip toes but a visit to the neurologist said this wasn’t concerning. He always seems to be picking at his lips, always itching, always moving. His bowels are small and hard but probably once daily. He just lays around when he’s not at school, swimming or gymnastics. I just want my son back who loved getting out and exploring and had tons of energy. I feel that there’s something going on inside him….like some virus that no one can figure out but all tests are showing he’s fairly healthy. He doesn’t want to talk about anything negative or anything bothering him. He loves singing and dancing….loves to perform. But since he’s a bit different, I don’t think he has many friends and now acts like his imaginary friends play with him. He doesn’t see any “imaginary people” or talk to them though. He just recently started lying about things- told me a kid at school beat him up. I heard him tell the psychologist that is testing him now (for autism) that he has a younger brother- which he doesn’t….his brother is almost 16 and he told her he’s never been mad in his life. I’m not used to his lying. Everything just seemed to be going downhill since last April. He’s foggy and zones out a lot…seems to be in fantasy land.
His naturopath tried to give him supplements but I’ve tried everything to get him to take them and hide them in food or drinks but to no avail so I was really hoping homeopathy would work since she (doctor) gave me permission to dissolve in water. We tried Agaricus 30c daily for a few days (once a day) but it was making him extremely aggressive and he started banging his head against the ground- never done that before so I stopped. I wasn’t familiar with homeopathy much and still not so much, but this didn’t seem right.
Later, I started seeing a homeopathic doctor who after hearing me talk about my son and meeting him, recommended opium 30c. I decided to try this and I thought this was a good fit. He seemed to talk a bit more- meaning not so much in his own little world (he is bright and has a good vocabulary). But his eczema flared up and this concerned me. Now I realize that may have been a good sign bringing it back to the physical. But he scratches until he bleeds so I’ve been putting coconut oil and petroleum-based over the counter product (Aquaphor). This has helped a bit but wondering if I should let it go and let him itch. Anyway, his regular doctor was not too keen on the opium so she recommended going back to agaricus again which I’ve been giving him the last couple days. I don’t see any response now…I don’t think this is or was the right remedy. She’s a great doctor but doesn’t focus primarily on homeopathy- much more supplements and other therapies.
I apologize for this long drawn-out post but didn’t want to forget anything. I know I jumped all over the place. Can someone help my son? I want to try homeopathy solely rather than put him through more testing and more diets at this point.
I’m very patient and would rather try one thing at a time and wait for results. I don’t see my homeopathic doctor anymore so I thought I would call on the forum to help since I seem to be feeling well so far with my personal homeopathic remedy recommendation- helped from this forum as well.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I could try to help you here. I have done a lot of work with children with ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome in my clinic.

Would you like me to post my Child questionnaire?

Evocationer 9 years ago
Yes, that would be great!
Thank you.

I will post the general instructions first, then the questionnaire in the following post.

CASE PRESENTATION FOR CLASSICAL HOMOEOPATHIC PRESCRIBING

General Guidelines:

1. Try to be as descriptive as possible. When describing pains or sensations use descriptions along the lines of ‘feels as if someone is squeezing it with their hand’ or ‘it is like an insect crawling around inside’ or ‘it is as if someone is standing over me threatening to kill me’. Long descriptions are always better than short ones. One word answers are difficult to use successfully.

2. Another important part of symptom description for homoeopathy are the ‘modalities’. These are situations, events, activities or conditions which modify the symptom in some way. We usually refer to this as what makes them ‘better’ or ‘worse’ (amelioration/aggravation). The situation may actually provoke the symptom into appearing, make it vanish altogether, or just increase or decrease it in some way. Modalities are vital information for prescribing.

Modalities are typically related to (but not exclusively) the following situations:

A. Temperature, weather
B. Time (day, night, specific times, frequency, periodicity, season)
C. Position, activity
D. Emotions, thoughts
E. Food and drink
F. Drugs, medication

3. How the symptom is perceived is important too – odour, appearance, sound, touch. What colour is it, what is its texture? For gestures, describe what it looks like the patient is doing, or what you feel you are doing while making the movement eg. ‘they look like they are swatting flies’ or ‘I feel like something is pushing my hand upwards’ or ‘it is like I stick a fork in an electrical outlet which throws my body backwards’. Description – it is key to accurate prescriptions.

4. When did the symptom or set of symptoms start? The apparent cause can be useful in determining the remedy, although it is not of the same importance as the previous factors. It may have been a specific event, a disease, an accident or even an emotional experience.

5. Use your own words. Do not copy phrases or descriptions found in our various remedy pictures. Try not to use other people’s ideas or thoughts or words. If you are reporting on behalf of someone else, report their exact words, however you can also report your own observations of them (not opinions).

6. Does the symptom occur alongside another specific symptom? Do particular symptoms only occur together? Does a particular symptom occur with a particular thought or emotion? For example, a headache that always comes with visual disturbances, or stomach pain that appears alongside anger, or anxiety that makes you feel like running down the street screaming.

7. Each complaint should be described fully before going on to describe another complaint. Try not to mix different symptoms or complaints together. Each modifying feature must be clearly attached to a particular symptom/set of symptoms. Any mistake you make here is a mistake the homoeopath will also then make.

Describe each physical complaint/associated set of symptoms in detail. Please include the following when doing this:

1. Appearance
2. Sensation or pain
3. Situations/events/triggers for making it worse
4. Situations/events/triggers for making it better
5. Event that seemed to start the complaint
6. Other sensory features – smell, sound, taste, tactile etc – of the symptom

Make sure each complaint is done separately. Do not group them together. This is for physical complaints/diseases rather than mental or emotional problems.

Symptoms may be divided into two categories:

1. Symptoms which they more or less have all the time
2. Symptoms which appear as ‘acute’ things but have appeared more than once

Make sure you clearing define these constant symptoms from the periodic ones.

MENTAL STATE OF THE CHILD (IMPORTANT)

1. When the physical complaint is active, what is his/her emotional state like? What does he/she do? What does she/he want you to do?

2. Does he/she describe any unusual sensation or pain in the body, especially when they are complaining of something?

3. What fears does he/she have? How does she/he react?

4. Was there any incident in the past that had a great impact? What happened at the time? Is there any ongoing reaction to this event? How does he/she talk about it?

5. Is there any story (book, fairytale, cartoon, movie etc) that seems to really resonate with her/him? What does he/she say about it?

6. What kind of fantasies does she/he describe to you? How does this translate down into play, games, toys? Does he/she tend to draw particular things over and over? If so what are they? If you point to these images, what does she/he say about them?

7. Does he/she describe any dreams or nightmares to you, and what are they? How does she/he react on waking from them?

8. How is he/she when interacting with other children? What about sports or games? How about obeying rules or social conventions?

9. How is she/he when interacting with older people? Is there any difference between family or friends and strangers in terms of reactions and behavior?

10. What kind of activities does he/she enjoy doing? Which of these do she/he spend the most time at?

11. What qualities seem to make your child different from other children?

12. How does your child cope with school, school work, study, deadlines, speaking in front of others, following directions etc?

13. What kind of questions does he/she tend to ask you or other adults?

14. What makes her/him laugh? What makes him/her cry?

15. What makes him/her angry or irritable?

16. What does your child do when alone?

17. Is there a particular person or type of person that he/she reacts to, and what kind of reaction?

GENERAL STATE OF YOUR CHILD

1. What position does he/she sleep in?
2. Is there any position he/she seems unable to sleep in?
3. Any unusual behaviour during sleep?
4. Any problems with sleep?
5. What foods are craved (cravings are strong desires) What foods are hated?
6. What drinks are craved? What drinks are hated?

9. How does the temperature affect?
10. Are there any other environmental influences negative or positive (season, noise, music, moon, light, dark, day, night, time, smells etc.)
11. Problems with stool or bowel habit?
Problems with urine or bladder habit?
12. Where does he/she sweat most? Does it stain or smell unusual?
13. Has she/he reacted to any medical treatment in the past in a strong or negative way?

PREGNANCY AND BIRTH

1. What kind of health problems occurred while you were pregnant with your child?

2. Were there any other stresses or traumas that occurred?

3. Did the birth itself have any problems?

4. Do you remember if any symptoms occurred suddenly during pregnancy that then vanished after your child was born? Especially important are any emotional or mental changes during this time.

Physical Complaints:

Eczema:
Scaly, red, bleeding often from constant itching, looks like cradle cap in which he had as an infant, on heels, elbows, shins and knees. Back is always very dry, bumpy and itchy since infancy. Flared up after opium 30c a couple weeks ago. Prior to that it was not inflamed since infrequent use of cortisone cream. Always dry and itchy skin but eczema within the last year. Not sure the cause. Diet may have helped keep at bay?
However, he never complains of this itchiness even when scratches to the point of bleeding- I just see him constantly scratching.

Most of childhood- frequent vomiting when sick once or twice a month. Again does not complain- vomits- feels better for a while and content with that.

Gagging with drinks other than water and occasionally milk as well as foods that aren't typical of his diet. I've tried about 10 different gluten free pancakes and he will try them and spit or gag. If they come unfolded as gluten free doesn't hold at times, he says "it makes me feel sick" just by the look of them. Chalky vitamins instantly make him gag- textures are problematic but no specific texture over another. Very picky eater and only drinks water.
He has always been an easy gagger and vomiter. Many times, he will choke on food and vomit it up.

Constant movement- when sitting always moving hands- itching, fidgeting, hands in mouth. Changing positions from laying down to sitting up, standing up, moving around on yoga ball. At times it looks like he has to move or is incredibly uncomfortable- like an itch you have to scratch. Sometimes wrenching body like he's trying to stretch- worse when he was eating a diet with food coloring and processed foods. Had Lucky Charms this weekend and he could not even sit the next day- had to stand and pace. He has always had to move but seems worse the last year- since April 2014 but maybe I did not notice until then- until teacher complained. Better after exercise and better when not having too much tv/video game time.
More recently- September 2014 started chewing on things- pencils at school, shirts, backpack strings- even cords. This stopped a few months ago. Not sure what brought it on but he still always has it hands in mouth or chewing on fingers. This seems to be going on for years- from what I can remember. But he had a pacifier for 5 years! I had a very hard time weening him off.

Tics lasted 6 months- constant eye blinking.Diagnosed with transient tic disorder. Seems like corn made it worse. He rubbed his eyes a lot- probably because they were fatigued. He never complained though. The year prior, he did go a couple weeks with constant sniffing but I didn't think anything of it as he always seems to do some quirky thing. No noticeable tics at the moment- tic free the last few months. Could be diet or beginning of homeopathy treatment.

Small and large motor skills- never enjoyed drawing or writing prior to school- now struggles with writing and drawing- much more behind than others. Large motor skills- lacks muscle and coordination. No interest in riding a bike- too difficult he says but he loves his scooter. Gymnastics is difficult for him but he really enjoys it and works very hard- focuses but again- noticeably behind others in class and in throwing and kicking balls. He's clumsy. Walks on tip toes but runs with flat feet.

MENTAL STATE OF THE CHILD

1. When the physical complaint is active, what is his/her emotional state like? What does he/she do? What does she/he want you to do?

Eczema- he has no complaints at all, gets annoyed when I put cream or lotion on because it takes time.

Vomiting- no complaints. Looks distressed, then vomits and is smiling like he has relieved himself and feels much better.

Gagging- no complaint but refuses to try the food again at that moment. Does not seem to be bothered by gag reflex.

Movement- never complains and doesn't seem to notice he is constantly moving. He is content moving around.

Tics- He seemed tired of blinking and seemed a bit distressed but never vocalized anything. When asked, he said he didn't know he was doing it or that he couldn't help it.

2. Does he/she describe any unusual sensation or pain in the body, especially when they are complaining of something?
No, hardly ever complains about anything physical or mental. No, sensations that I'm aware of.

3. What fears does he/she have? How does she/he react?

He recently started being afraid of the dark. I gave him a flashlight. This has been going on the last few months but not too intense. He sometimes has me turn on lights and then he's okay.

He recently told me he has a fear of heights. He is cautious when climbing on gym toys even when he's not that high up. Not disturbed, just very cautious.

4. Was there any incident in the past that had a great impact? What happened at the time? Is there any ongoing reaction to this event? How does he/she talk about it?

No incident that impacted him as far as I know. He seems to keep things hidden (feelings) or he legitimately just doesn't care. He only talks about fun times, happy memories. Talks a lot about what he wants to do- for example- when we go to Disneyland in the future.

5. Is there any story (book, fairytale, cartoon, movie etc) that seems to really resonate with her/him? What does he/she say about it?

He really likes the Magic Treehouse books because they spin around and go into the future or the past and visit historical times and places. He just discusses the book and acts it out- spins like they do and puts a theatrical dance to it.

6. What kind of fantasies does she/he describe to you? How does this translate down into play, games, toys? Does he/she tend to draw particular things over and over? If so what are they? If you point to these images, what does she/he say about them?

He likes to act like he is a video game character like Mario fighting for princess peach. Or another character beating up the boss at the end of a level- video games are often a part of his imagination. He doesn't particularly like to draw or write much. He is a little behind with large and small motor skills- as if he lacks the muscle. If I were to point to a picture, he would just describe what the picture is. However, at the autism meeting (last week), he was asked to look through a picture book and then stand up and describe the book- he did great and remembered the entire story. He was also asked to take 5 objects and create a story- he was fantastic and talked of a golden moon turning a beach shell golden. He has always liked the moon and talks about it being God's home and his favorite place.

7. Does he/she describe any dreams or nightmares to you, and what are they? How does she/he react on waking from them?

He sometimes says that he has dreams about video game characters but I think he is just making that up. Just likes to talk about them. He has mentioned scary dreams before but I don't recall the details. Typically he doesn't have bad dreams but doesn't discuss dreams very often.

8. How is he/she when interacting with other children? What about sports or games? How about obeying rules or social conventions?

He would rather approach another child then have a child approach him. He doesn't seem interested in strangers talking to him but he will gladly announce out loud to anyone something that is on his mind. He is quite witty and funny and likes to make people laugh. He might do an imitation of someone with an expressive look on his face. He has issues with personal space. I have to remind him often to give the other person space. He does swimming and gymnastics and will socialize with kids in gymnastics but during swimming, he goes into his own little world with the water- dunking in the water, swimming back and forth. He is very distracted at swimming and the instructor has to constantly remind him to come back to his spot. This is rarely the case at gymnastics. He tries very hard- male teacher vs female teacher during swimming. He obeys rules for the most part- usually his distraction is the only reason he doesn't and it's almost like he's not aware that he's drifting off physically or mentally.

9. How is she/he when interacting with older people? Is there any difference between family or friends and strangers in terms of reactions and behavior?

He is fairly quiet around older people if they try and interact or talk to him. He likes to pretend like he is shy when he was never shy prior to 2nd grade. This is how he is with most strangers- children or adults- if not familiar, he doesn't really talk to them. This was not always the case. Just in the last 1-2 years.

10. What kind of activities does he/she enjoy doing? Which of these do she/he spend the most time at?

He would play video games all day if I would let him but I don't. We are quite a bit lazier on the weekends since his energy significantly decreased the last year. He loves going to amusement parks, zoos, waterslides, movies, and he really likes his gymnastics. During the week we spend a good amount of time with swimming and gymnastics but too much time on the tv and video games lately. Lots of guilt about this but it's hard to fight the tantrums lately as I am dealing with extreme insomnia these days. I tend to give in much too easy lately.

11. What qualities seem to make your child different from other children?

He seems happier than most children at school events. He's always excited to be there while other children seem quite mellow in comparison. He also loves to sing and dance and is very expressive in his movements and in his facial expressions. Just signed him up for kids acting/performing classes- starting in a couple weeks. He rarely asks for anything- like toys or treats. He seems very confident or doesn't care what others think and does what makes him happy but sometimes I wonder if he lacks empathy.

12. How does your child cope with school, school work, study, deadlines, speaking in front of others, following directions etc?

This is a big struggle this year- 2nd grade. Nearly 90% of assignments are not being completed due to lack of focus and attention. It's difficult for him to sit still long enough to pay attention and complete his work. If directions are short, he has no problem following them. He's in a math resource class- small math group but his teacher thinks it's because he has a hard time with all the steps because he has attention difficulties. No problem speaking in front of others- in fact, he prefers it.

13. What kind of questions does he/she tend to ask you or other adults?

He doesn't ask a lot- doesn't engage in long conversations unless it's about something that interests him.

14. What makes her/him laugh? What makes him/her cry?

Funny movies make him laugh, inside jokes between the two of us makes him laugh. He rarely cries unless I yell at him which isn't often. He will throw fits if I force him to leave the house when he's tired or when pulling him off the tv or games. He doesn't really cry when he gets hurt- unless he sees blood or he is very hurt. As a baby he bumped his head a lot or ran into things but never cried. He is quite clumsy.

15. What makes him/her angry or irritable?

Angry when his older brother picks on him- jokes around with him. His brother is very good with him and patient for the most part, however. He mostly gets irritable when I want him to leave the house on weekends because he's "too tired." Or as mentioned above, when I take away electronics.

16. What does your child do when alone?

When alone, he will read, play games, play with toys. He is very content playing alone. As observed at the autism center- when the psychologist tried to engage in play with him, he was okay with her playing near him but didn't respond when she tried to initiate interactive play together.
17. Is there a particular person or type of person that he/she reacts to, and what kind of reaction?

He seems to react well with men, listens to them, follows directions better than women. He doesn't know his father- dad left when he was 1-years-old. He adores babies and is very sweet and gentle with them.

GENERAL STATE OF YOUR CHILD

1. What position does he/she sleep in?

Mainly on stomach, legs straight.

2. Is there any position he/she seems unable to sleep in?

Not that I've noticed.

3. Any unusual behaviour during sleep?

He is quite restless when he sleeps. Around 4 am he starts to fidget- legs move a lot and then the last couple hours of sleep, lots of leg and body twitching. The last couple nights I've noticed him grinding his teeth but that could be the homeopathic remedy (agaricus 30c) I started again- just the last two nights. He has never been a long sleeper- 8 or 9 hours at most. However, when given the opium 30c, he slept around 9-11 hours and slept hard.

4. Any problems with sleep?

Not really but not very heavy sleeper. Sometimes complains he didn't sleep very well when it seems he did. He crawls in bed with me most nights- not because he's scared but because he says it's comfy.

5. What foods are craved (cravings are strong desires) What foods are hated?

He has always craved breads- loves breads which makes going gluten free all the more difficult. Loves ice cream but doesn't crave it like breads. He hates sour foods or spicy foods. Only likes bananas and sometimes grapes- no other fruits or fruit juices. He prefers bland foods.

6. What drinks are craved? What drinks are hated?

He only drinks water- very rarely milk but used to love milk. Stopped drinking it about one year ago. He hates any fruit juices, smoothies, or anything other than water. He does like soy milk but doesn't usually ask for it.

7. How does he/she react when hungry, or hunger is prolonged?

No major reaction to hunger. He might whine but would have to be starving to react that way about wanting food.

8. How does the weather affect?

Prefers cooler seasons and weather over summer and hot temperatures. But not really affected with the sun or rain specifically. I think he likes the look of a sunny day over a rainy day.

9. How does the temperature affect?

He doesn't like to be overheated- drinks tons of water after exercise or heat. He prefers cooler temperatures- doesn't seem to get too cold but does get too hot. Often runs around the house in his underwear or underwear and t-shirt even in the winter.

10. Are there any other environmental influences negative or positive (season, noise, music, moon, light, dark, day, night, time, smells etc.)

He is sometimes bothered by intense smells but rarely even notices any loud noises. Likes the moon and the snow. Seems happier in the morning after sleep- grumpier as the day goes on especially if he has to do things (like on weekends).

11. Problems with stool or bowel habit?

His stools are hard and small- sometimes little balls but is able to go daily.

Problems with urine or bladder habit?

No problems with urine or bladder.

12. Where does he/she sweat most? Does it stain or smell unusual?

Sweat underarms- not bad but can smell like onions if gets bad- not often though. No stains from sweat. His forehead, chest and back can get a bit sweaty with exercise but nothing excessive.

13. Has she/he reacted to any medical treatment in the past in a strong or negative way?

No, he's always been easy to take to the doctors.

PREGNANCY AND BIRTH

1. What kind of health problems occurred while you were pregnant with your child?

I was under a bit of stress because his dad was stressful- OCD and bipolar but the latter perhaps from drug use. I was starting to develop toxemia- was induced. Had a good amount of pain a couple days prior to delivery. I'm small and he was up in my ribcage- or at least that's how it felt. I was given several doses of demoral for the pain and then an epidural- shortly after, I delivered him. There was an issue getting him out- had to use forceps. He was fine for an hour or so and then quit breathing but was okay shortly after and went home within two days. No other problems during my pregnancy.

2. Were there any other stresses or traumas that occurred?

Just as described above with delivery and then stopped breathing an hour later after delivery.

3. Did the birth itself have any problems?

Just as described above with delivery (forceps) and then stopped breathing an hour later after delivery. I believe he was having issues with breathing or heart rate which is why they had to use the forceps but I was so out of it, I can't be certain.

4. Do you remember if any symptoms occurred suddenly during pregnancy that then vanished after your child was born? Especially important are any emotional or mental changes during this time.

For me (mother) I had no issues prior or after. I did not suffer from postpartum depression but seemed to develop more depression later on...being a single mother of two boys got to be difficult.

Please let me know if you need more detail- if I was too vague. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything.

Thank you again for considering our case.

Ok I have looked carefully at your description of him. I think that the remedy we need to try is Tarentula hispanica. Are you able to get the LM potency range - LM1 (or sometimes denoted as 0/1) is where I would start. This potency scale tends to be more useful in patients who are sensitive or have had a lot of medical suppression and might react strongly to remedies attempting to move their internal issues back outwards. His eczema having been suppressed by cortisone is a prime candidate for intense aggravation.

If you cannot get LMs, I would start with 12c first, moving only to 30c after we see what happens and the 12 finishes its work.

The not complaining (a sort of stoicism) is interesting, but I wonder if the homoeopaths weren't focussing on the wrong thing. The overall picture is one of intense activity, restlessness, agitation, with a desire to dance and sing. The pathology centres around jerks, twitches, clumsiness, odd positions and movements, repetitive actions, exaggerated movements. Agaricus is closer than Opium to this state, but I feel Tarentula is closer again.

Tarentula appears in these repertory symptoms:

Laziness
Desires/loves dancing
Desires/loves singing
Sensation as if in a dream
Scratching until bleeding
Constant restlessness
Desire to stretch
Biting/chewing objects/fingers
Fear of the dark
Fear of heights
Indifference to external events
Gestures, nervous tics
Gestures, picking at one spot

Looking through the materia medica you see these aspects mentioned:

On hearing music, feels compelled to dance, wild dancing
Dancing ameliorates them (known to ameliorate the restlessness)
General agitation
Great weakness and prostration
General lassitude with little moral or physical inclination to work
Fatigue, uneasiness, constant movements, impossible keeping quiet
Great restlessness, could not keep quiet anywhere, or in any position, must keep in motion, cannot remain in one place, irresistible desire to move
Music causes the patient to dance, which often ameliorates their symptoms
Great agitation
Great excitement caused by music
Excessive gayety, laughing at the slightest cause, disposition to laugh and joke
Desire to joke, laugh, play, extreme gayety
Singing until exhausted
Music cheers up, amuses, and relieves
Cross, tendency to get angry and to speak abruptly, cross at the least contradiction
Does not want to answer questions
Indolence for mental labour
Absence of mind

Obtain the remedy as a liquid dose if possible (oral dosing liquid).

If you instead have pillules or pellets, you will need a small bottle and a dropper to make your own liquid dose. Mix water and alcohol into this small bottle to the ratio of 5:1. Dissolve 3 pillules/pellets into this bottle. All doses will be made from this bottle.

If you already have a liquid dose just start from step 1.

1. Hit the bottle 5 times firmly against the palm of the hand

2. Place 3 drops into 100mls of clean fresh water

3. Stir very thoroughly

4. Take 2 teaspoons out into the mouth and hold for 20 seconds, then swallow.

This is one dose and the same steps should be taken for any further doses, unless I ask you to change them in some way.

If any old symptoms reappear, or any current symptoms worsen, this is a GOOD sign in most cases. DO NOT SUPPRESS them with other kinds of medication unless you are in real danger (which is a highly unlikely reaction to a remedy).

However, if you are on regular medication it is also important that you do NOT stop taking this. Once it is determined the medicine has acted beneficially, we can look at reducing such medication if safe to do so. Regular medication in this instance is NOT defined as other homoeopathic medicines which MUST be stopped.

Give him one dose each day and report back to me after 7 days.

Hi Evocationer,

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to go over our case. It's very kind, indeed.

This sounds good! I think I'll have to order it since most places around here carry the pellets only and I'm not familiar in making the solutions.

A couple questions...with my son having issues drinking or eating things without gagging...the alcohol taste may likely provoke this. Is it quite necessary to use alcohol solution over pellets dropped in plain water like he has done in the past?

Regarding the eczema, can I continue to apply over-the-counter creams and gels or just let the rash and itch go? He doesn't seem to mind either way anyway.

Thank you again.

Yes it is very important to make a dosing bottle you can keep hitting. The water in the bottle remembers the number of times it has been hit, and without alcohol the water will not last more than a few days, becoming inert (just water) again.

Succussion (hitting of the remedy) is vital to keeping the process of cure advancing. Putting pellets in water excludes this element of dosage.

The amount of alcohol is tiny once it is diluted. I would use brandy since children are most likely to endure the taste of it.

Try not to use anything on the skin except moisturizers (excluding anything with petroleum products in it). You could use aloe or chamomile tea as well.

Okay, I'll get what I need on order, make the dose and give it to my son. After 7 days of taking the remedy, I'll report back to you.

Thank you!

You can report anything that happens within that week of course, but I will usually not assess until after 7 days.

I answered your question about how to prepare the dosing bottle in another post. Let me know if you need more clarification.

Evocationer 9 years ago
Okay, I will. I'm so new...I feel like I have too many questions and I didn't want to be too bothersome because I know you have a clinic and patients as well.

Thanks for answering my dosing questions. I just added this question: How much of this is alcohol- as far as measurement in comparison to water?

mishelle76 9 years ago
Approximately one part alcohol to 5 parts water.

I am happy to answer questions you have now that I have accepted some responsibility for the case :)

I appreciate it! =) Now I will wait for the remedy. I found the LM1 and should be receiving by mid next week.

Talk to you soon.

Hi Evocationer,

I'm still waiting on the remedy and surprised it has taken over a week from California to Wa state. Maybe I'll receive today.

I have a couple questions and a comment. First, after a month-long evaluation, my son was diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and likely sensory issues. This was tough to swallow. I will do all I can to help him without any allopathic meds- especially stimulants which many seem to be so fond of these days. I thought I'd let you know that new diagnosis.

Also, for clarification purposes on using the remedy. I am to continue to give my son the remedy all 7 days (at least)and report back, correct? If he starts to display any aggravations, I stop, correct?

I think that's it for now. I have a strong faith that homeopathy is going to help him significantly and prove the disbelievers wrong. =)

mishelle76 9 years ago
Yes that is correct.

The diagnosis isn't important for our purposes, only the symptoms, and in children homoeopathy has been shown to be able to reverse Autism. I won't say it is ever easy - but it is certainly possible.

Okay, thank you for your response.

Hi there,

Well I just received the remedy and I may have ordered the wrong thing. It definitely is tarantula hispanica LM1 but they aren't the normal size pellets I'm familiar with. It is in a small vial with very tiny pellets like the size of a tip of a pen and on the side it says 1 gram, and one dose is the entire content of the bottle. If this is the case, I have one dose at $16.00. This was the only option for pellets. Would it be completely useless to use a few of these tiny pellets like I would a normal size? When I say normal....I'm used to Boiron brand.

Please advise....I'll await your response. I don't want to give him one dose and then be done until I order more.

Thank you.

I'm thinking these are granules? Unfortunately the website said pellets and did not give me an option of the vial size but it looks like they sent me 1/2 dram vial.

mishelle76 9 years ago
it is the weekend and he may not be on here for a couple days.

You can try the granules as if pellets. He will adjust the amount of
granules when he comes on here.

Hi Simone,

Thanks so much for responding. I really wanted to start these this weekend. I'll do as I would the pellets for now.

I see some of the manufacturers listed on the site offer granules, pellets, and liquids. Do you typically refrain from granules because they are so tiny and require more?

Again, thank you for responding.

Most people get liquid. In India liquid is cheap. In usa liquid
is twice the cost. Next up, people get the pills.But.. there are
many sizes of pills ( if you look at Helios Homeopathic Pharm) in
the Uk, there is quite a lot of pill sizes to choose from.

Hahnemann was always using poppy size pellets-like what you
have in that unit dose.

I have heard many say, it does not make a difference. It is one
part of homeopathy I have not read a lot on yet, but if
you want to google it- you will start to see the history of
what Hahnemann used , how he changed it etc.

David will be able to tell you why for sure.
