Renal failure.

I have a cousin who is 40 years old and has just been diagnosed with kidney failure. Of what i could gather from relatives through phone calls, he had a urine infection a month back and was asked to consume more water. He had donated one of his kidneys to his elder brother about 20 years ago, who ultimately expired. so they say the doctor now told them that consuming more water put overload on the kidney whichis left. so now it is shrinking. he was admitted for a week in the hospital and was having extreme weakness, fatigue. also occasional constipation. plus high bp. (he had borderline hypertension, but now when he was told of his kidney being effected, it escalated). people around him and he himself is intimitated by this disease as it has already taken his brother's life. and the doctor in charge has told them that the next step would be edema of his legs and vomiting. Is there anything that can be done at this acute state? If more information is needed, I will try to gather them sublty so as not to raise hopes.
