cruciate ligament injury

Hi,
I have an 11 year old keeshond who has had an injury to his cruciate ligament. We don't know if it a full or partial tear but he is able to weight bear when walking and occassionally stands on it to pee. He had a week of Calc Fluor 6x 3 times a day about three weeks ago and whilst that helped he had reached a platau.

Yesterday I was advised to give him one dose of Ruta 30c and about 6 hours later he stood up in his crate, whined and stretched his leg straight out the back and held it there. He did lower it but then was back to hopping on 3 legs. No change this morning, still 3 legged so I have not given him the remedy either times today as was advised.
His leg was definitely worse but he had a much less restless sleep than he has been having.

By this evening he is back to placing some weight and walking slowly - about the same as he was PRIOR to the remedy being given yesterday.
Has anyone ever seen this response before? Any advice?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
When did he got injured?

How did it happen?

Did you try Arnica so far?

Hi Murthy,
Thanks for your response. The original injury was mid oct. He came in from outside in the morning with a slight limp - it had been raining and I suspect he may have slipped on the deck - Vet viewed him, thought was a sprain and prescribed Rymidyl (argh!!!) Limp cleared in couple of days. 2 weeks later he jumped up from lying position and gave a bit of a squeek - no obvious limp but 2 days later ran off back step and turned right at the same time - wouldn't put foot on ground for about 5 minutes then much worse limp in right leg and much longer to resolve. I started him on arnica at that time as well as hypericum. Vet felt that if anything it was a partial tear. Was resolving well until 4 weeks later when he slipped coming in the back door. This time he was up on three legs and non weight bearing. Restriction and supplements (glucosomine, chichondrin, MSM etc) started about this time. This was when we tried the CALC FLUOR for a week. Then stopped for week, symptoms returned so we started the calc fluor 6x dissolved in 50ml water 3x daily for further week. I also had x ray done at this point to make sure we weren't dealing with tumour or fracture. Weight bearing improved and was he feeling quite 'bouncy' until I unfortunately made him put alot of weight on his 'bad' leg whilst he was eating. We had put carpets down so he wouldn't slip and then the carpet moved when I moved my foot causing him to stand heavily. This made him go back to 3 legs with little weight. No remedies given again until the events I described in my first post.
Apart from that he is alert and calm. He has been sleeping quite a bit during day but that is fairly normal. He has been very good about being restricted - crate and ex pen and lead walks out to toilet only but has wanted to be closer to me today than previously.
Not sure what else I can tell you apart from the fact that the xrays did show inflamation which I assumed to mean arthritic changes.
I have noticed the streching his leg out the back more often as well and at times he seems to be trying to 'kick it out' I guess a bit like people might do if they wanted to 'click' their elbow.
Very grateful for any thoughts :o)

Start with Arnica again. You have to give it in either 1M or 200 potency. Lower doses won't help much. Give three doses in a day.

You get Rhustox 200c too, as it is the next medicine to be given.

Report the condition after you finish the three doses of Arnica 1M/200c.

Thanks will try that.
So don't give the ruta at all at this point?

Arnica helps to remove the swelling and the bruised sensation/pain.

We need to use remdies in a sequence. You may stop Ruta while giving Arnica.
