feline infectious peritonitis
dear friends, time may be running out for my FIP cat :(
_ 9 y. o. female spayed tabby cat
_found at one y,o. was spayed
_ assume she was vaccinated at time of spay
-when found gave one topical dose of proban drug to kill fleas
_ indoor cat for last 8 yrs.
_ raw organic meat diet for 6 yrs.
- no vaccinations or drugs last 8 yrs.
- sweet yelding submissive temp.
_will protect food from two other male cats
_took her with family to another home in may and july 04 for holiday
_ this may have caused stress as she never goes out
_ swelling started in july/04
- both vet and I thought it was abdomenal cancer
treated with two chinese herbs;
wu ling san
and xiao chai hu tang
_no response to treatment
_Nov. o4 expressed 650ml abdomenal fluid;clear yellow no odour
_lab showed no cancer cells;
_ lab and vet think FIP
_ vet gave up
_ 2nd vet; FIP nosode 30C gave 3 doses
_ another vet drew 300 ml abdomenal fluid for nosode

thankyou for reply
_I carried on my post with
"continued fip cat" and so have more info there.
_before FIP virus fur was like mink, very silky thick
_now thin, dry, parts on bones like spine, separates
_once we started FIP nosodes she went back to grooming and cleaning herself again
_stool has strong stinky
odour and at night she would have a bowel movement outside the litter box
_prior to sickness she was clean and good with litter box
_ziggy has always been kept inside the house with two other cats who do not go outside
_never really saw ziggy drink much when healthy, now drinking every couple of hours
_urinates before or after drinking, appears to have as much go in as comes out
_change happened when started remedies
_always slept but use to be more active with play and running around once a day
_now not active but rests all day
_other symptoms would be dry nose
_cold feet with dry skin on pads
_muscle has atrophied, bones show thru coat
_no body fat, emaciated
_can feel organs like kidneys
_has hernia on belly since kitten
hope this helps,
jane

Thanks John,
Before sickness
_discreet with bathroom habits; rarely saw her go
_used litter box, clean cat
_well formed stool brown
_sweet temperment
-didn't like to be carried but liked lap
_likes sun more than other two cats
_use to be picky eater
_on raw meat diet
_incredible and unusually soft mink-like thick short fur
_sleeps but exercised herself once a day
WITH SICKNESS
_large abdomenal swelling with fliud. retention as skin looks puffier under shin just slightly, most in belly
_starving all the time
_eat everything given, no longer fussy about food
_cry for food when in kitchen
_coat dry thinner dull separating
_extreme weight loss, emanciated, loss of muscle and fat
_no play, low vitality, sleeps all day
_runs to heater, chilly
_stool hard, small, some straining, brown with no odour
_eating clay or wood pellet litter
_throwing up litter only
_eats meals and keeps food down
_licks carpet, appears to crave a nutrient(s)or minerals
_no change in temp, still sweet and submissive
STarted Chinese herbs:
_no change, maybe some oedema reduced except for abdomen,
AFTER FLIUD sent to lab: show no cancer; treat for FIP
_when given Nat mur hunger was less, ate half meal given, appeared to like food but not craving or begging for more
_first FIP 30C nosode resulted with changes in stool and appetite;
_stool now diarrhea and very stinky
_eating all food and wanting more again, wanting to eat all the time
_normally gets fed 2xday on raw meat diet, but now we break up into 4xday smaller meals with extra vit/min, probiotics slippery elm
_slippery elm when added helped diarrhea, now stool formed slightly but still soft smells less but odour still present, brown
-bowel movement not as discreet, sometimes urgent and at night does not get into box as we find soft semi formed stool beside box
_question arises if climbing into box is getting awkward with big belly?
_thirsty and drinks several times a day
_usually pees and then drinks afterward
_no longer digging hole to pee, just squats in box, takes a moment then small to med.amount comes, does not bury it
_appears to be drinking more and pee more than normal
PRESENTLY SYMPTOMS TODAY:
_appetite strong ate all food
_some swelling around anus _slightly swollen around opening of vulva, noticed very small dried deposit which is cream-coloured at opening at vulva It was like a small bead of dried discharge and fell off when touched. fur on edges has dried urine caked slightly
_quiet, likes heater, sat on carpet for while
_has fliud retention and oedema
_LEFt SIDE
of belly is swellen out more than right side when I look down from above her,
_this is a recent change in swelling in past day or two
thanks

start treatment with single dose (2 pellets) only nux vomica 200c.. allow 2 days--depending on response---maybe allow more time--but calcarea carbonica 30c is to follow... 9obtain these 2 remedies)
start adding 1 teaspoon cod liver oil to food (per feeding) (if not already)...
no other remedies-medicines-herbs ...etc at all...
keep me closely informed...

John, I forgot until I just gave Nux V 200C
_iggy twitches and jerks her front legs and jaw when given dropping liquid from shringe into mouth on first time then, with more liquid given she is fine during the same dosing period.

Hi Sabra
I accidently started two threads for same FIP cat.
_3 vets have examined ziggy
_abdomimal fliud was tested
and both lab and vets consider that it appears to be FIP, though I did not do an actual test for FIP
_vets did not suggest that an actual FIP is needed.
_one of vet's said it was "WET" FIP
thanks

I have in my notes for FIP
Lycopodium 1M or Chelidonium. May or may not fit the picture here.
The Wholistic Animal website has remedies for FIP whether you believe in combos or not. This lady has a lot of knowledge and tools which may help your little one. At least e-mail her and see if she can help you.
There is always hope
I strongly suggest as do other alternative DVM's, Vitamin Ester-C will boost her immune system if added to her food. SO GLAD to see you have her on a raw food diet. Cheers to you!
Dr. Pitcairn recommends Arsenicum Album 6C if the cat is anxious, chilly, thirsty, and restless. Mercurius Sulphuricus if the cats has tremendous difficulty breathing and has to sit up all the time because of difficulty breathing.
Keep the stress level down in your household, play classical or spiritual music like Enya, and stick with your strict raw food diet. I also suggest massaging and sending energy to the cats heart area with your hands because that is where the thymus gland is and that is the master controller of the entire immune system. You can also thump on her chest 10 times in a row with your fingers daily, to stimulate this gland.
There is always hope, take it moment by moment.
Bless you,
NAMASTE

thankyou NAMASTE for your reply,
It's great to have the input and help from you and everyone.
my personal preference is for classical homeopathy
I have always had results with using one remedy at time.
I treat mostly my own animals, have no experience or formal education working with serious constitutional situations especially time sensitive ones
part of me is stressed over the time wasted using chinese med. which the vet has had excellent results for cancer
I have taken ziggy off all remedies & chinese herbs, aside from vit. C A (salmon oil), Gamma E,etc.
I took John's advice and have administered one dose of Nux V. 200C
I will wait and see (that's the hard part for me) and will post results.
I had thought of contacting Diana's website before I found this forum but, I live in Canada. I am concerned with christmas and distance if Diana's FIP treatment will not arrive in time for Ziggy
It would be so great to find the solution here on this forum first.
I discovered that all the replies have also given me emotional support!
with appreciation, Jane

Jane,
Your four-legged baby looks to you for support. If you are okay, your little one will be okay. Their strength comes from you.
Yes, I know it is frustrating when you invest so much time in something and that is more time gone by where you loved one is still ill. No time was wasted with Chinese medicine. It was all meant to be, just not the right path at this point. If it wasn't then you would not have encountered it. The body has a tremendous capability to heal and when homeopathy kicks in, the results are brilliant. Patience and trust are key with homeopathy.
You could contact Diane if you choose. It couldn't hurt to seek her opinion while you are searching this forum for answers. More roads are better than one.
Just remember to let your little one know and this is for all animal lovers with animals whether they are healthy or ill, that it is okay for them to let go, when and if it is their time to go. You don't want your animals to cling to life for you, they will only suffer.
Bless,

Hi John,
Update and Calc carb
yesterday;
I saw an improvement with ziggy
She had more vitality
displayed more strength in body, ie.jumping up on chair came easier
more alert
thirst and urine output was less
I have not seen her eating litter
appetite was strong as she would still come into kitchen everytime she thought I might get her something
Bowel seemed the same: soft slightly formed, brown, odour not as much
Last night she had diarreah watery brown (went on carpet)
Today:
This morning when I checked her bedroom she had about a tablespoon of liquid brown watery diarreah out side her box.
breakfast she ate 3/4 of it, left some
(could be the vit C powder) and could be why the diarreah with the increase of Vit C???
she seems a bit lower in energy, but still early to tell, is drinking some
Calc carb 30C:
John, do you suggest I give ziggy Calc Carb today?
How often?
thanks John

no other remedies-observe--and post daily observations (or as often as need arises)..
start using 1 tablespoon per feeding of high quality cod liver oil....
be sure food is exempt of sodium additives and use pure water --no chlorinated/flourinated water

Today Dec. 13th in Canada:
Ziggy passed well formed stool this a.m.after being constipated yesterday
Her belly seems to keep expanding each day with the fluid
Have not given her anything since the Calc-C
I don't know how much bigger her belly can get??
John or anyone, do you think using an auto-nosode from her own fliud would help her?
What is your opinion of nosodes?
thanks,
Jane

fluid is inside the abdomen pushing it out.
She looks like she is carrying several litters.
Half of her body weight is excess fliud making walking quite difficult

Hi John, thought I'd update you
this a.m.
Ziggy was the first one through the door when I let all three cats out of their bedroom
she is moving better, ie. more mobile and faster
has more energy and strength
hungry and will eat anytime we are willing to feed her
she passed a nice stool
I noted that she has not been covering the stool up in her litter box
yesterday we had just cleaned the boxes and she walked past one box
squatted and urinated on the floor.
today she is urniating in the box, but again she is not covering it;
when she was healthy she always covered her "business" up.
evenings generally are her lower time for energy and her belly is usually fuller
I have the general impression that over all, Ziggy seems to be feeling better from yesterday
her belly is still more swollen on the left side
??could mean the right side receding??
observations continue...
