Itchy Dog with Rash and Yeast Infection in Ears
Dear Friends:My spaniel, in reaction to stress, develops skin rashes that she licks to the point of open sores. She also has chronic yeast infections in ears from swimming. I treat with an ACV solution, and that works temporarily, but the ears worsen with stress. She is a rescue with separation anxiety and I am in the process of moving. Every time I move this rash develops.
She came to me with a compromised immune system (due to stress of multiple abandonments) I treated her mostly with homeopathy and herbs and flower essences. But flower essences are not helping with the rash.
REcently I treated her with a thyroid liquessence from my homeopathic vet. I cannot afford a vet at the moment, so I am seeking others for advice.
Thanks very much.

Hi Eileenharr,
Please speak on following to enable me to select the best Homeopathic medicine for the creature:
1. Whether the dog is fearful?
2.Does the dog show emotions of affection and love or not?
3.do you ever see tears trickling down the eyes?
4.Does it wag its tail as soon as she gets attention or is unresponsive?
5.What is the colour of the hair?
6.How it responds to each change of place by you.Whether reduced appetite or any such thing?

Thanks for the reply, Sarup.
To answer your question: she is not a fearful dog, but in the past week she has been a bit more meek. By this I mean she has some history of abuse, and since the move she has shown signs of 'expecting' to be hit (slight cowering when one approaches her). She does this when I approach her with flower essences or ear cleaning solution :)
As far as showing emotions, she is always happy to see people, welcomes physical contact, loves to be petted etc. She definitely loves to be near me.
Tears: no. never
Wag: always
Hair color - white with brown spots and patches
She (not 'it') responds to change of place by acting more clingy and following me everywhere. SHe whines when I am out of sight. Mostly her reactions are the physical ones I described in my post: ear infections and skin infections act up. Her appetite is as strong as ever. She is not sleeping as much, because she is extra vigilant (in case I try to sneak away in the middle of the night!)
Bowel movements are normal. Energy level is normal.
I appreciate your reply very much!
Thanks

Hello -
I have two black in tact male standard poodles. They were rescued from a 'breeder'. They spent their first 11 months in a chain linked pen with their sister. The alpha of the two has excessive ear wax and yeast. Although he doesn't scratch much, he shakes his head all the time.
The boys will be 2 years old on June 7th. They have lived with me since last May.
I will answer the questions that were asked of Eileenharr.
1. Whether the dog is fearful?
He is not fearful of other dogs but, when we are home, he panics if I go from upstairs to down or vice versa. He scrambles to follow me. He also follows me as I move around on the same floor but doesn't 'scramble' so much. He also gets very car sick and has had seizures.
The two boys do not like to be separated.
2.Does the dog show emotions of affection and love or not? He is very loving.
3.do you ever see tears trickling down the eyes?
I don't see tears but he has a lot of eye discharge that hardens at the bottom inner corner of his eye.
4.Does it wag its tail as soon as she gets attention or is unresponsive?
He does not wag his tail very often and usually does not hold it in an 'up' position.
5.What is the colour of the hair?
black
6.How it responds to each change of place by you.Whether reduced appetite or any such thing?
If we go overnight somewhere else his appetite diminishes. Also, even at home, if his choice is to eat or follow me, he will not eat. I have now taken to bringing his food bowl into my office during the day (I work from home) and to the bedroom at night. He is very thin.
I have tried several homeopathic remedies to treat the accute car sickness but they haven't seemed to help. I have also tried valerian root and even dramamine - no help.
I recently started giving him three amino acids that were recommended for his seizures.
His dog food is high in vitamin B and Omega oils.
Please let me know what other information I can provide.
Thanks so much.

5. is he thin overall or in legs portion only?
6.What is the colour of the discharge from the ear?

Thank you so much for your response.
1. Please inform whether he likes cold surroundings or hot. I mean in which temperature enviorenment he feels good.
He seems to take a chill easily and sleeps better when he is warm. I notice this when he is sleeping indoors. Also, when I bathed him with the hose outside, even when it is very hot, he seriously shivered (so I don't do it anymore). His brother does not. That being said, as long as his hair is long he loves to play in the cold and rain. Loves dirt and mud.
2.does he prefer warm or cold food?
I don't know as I feed him only cold food. I can experiment with this. He eats Wellness Core Dog Food. It's first five ingredients are:
Deboned Turkey
Deboned Chicken
Turkey Meal
Chicken Meal
Potatoes
3.How is his liking for sweet stuff or alternatively what is the intake of sweet things.
He got dog cookies for Christmas and loves them. He has a very sensitive stomach, however, so he only gets maybe 1 a day. When his stomach is upset (not from motion sickness) he doesn't tend to throw up but he gets serious diarrhea.
4.How is the thirst?
He drinks large quantities all at once.
5. is he thin overall or in legs portion only?
He is thin overall.
6.What is the colour of the discharge from the ear?
The discharge looks black when in the ear but more of a rust color when it's on a white cloth. Also he produces more ear discharge in his left ear.
Also, I don't know if this is relevent but often he holds himself like he lacks a frame - especially when lying down.
I hope this is not too much information!
Thanks again!

Dear Sarup:
It is so very kind of you to take the time to reply to my post. I appreciate it very much. Could you clarify something for me? I am not sure what you mean by:
'The remedy is not to be repeated.Pl. intimate after 10 days.'
I am not sure what 'Pl. imitate means.' Are you saying to repeat the dosage after ten days?
Also, to Spotzmom I would like to say: I recommend taking your itchy dog off the Wellness. Most processed foods, as you may know, can aggravate food allergies in dogs. I suggest making the dog's food and/or putting him on a BARF diet. I don't mean to thrust my opinion on you....so you may take it or leave it as you wish. Please know that I say this with good tidings!

Hi! Eileen,
Do not repeat the medicine means it is to be given in one dose on the first day only.
Intimate after 10 days means to come to the forum to report results after the remedy had been given in single dose 10 days before so that depending on the reports the follow ups can be done. i think this makes things clear. if you have any question you are most welcome to seek clarification. thanks.

Hi,
My 11 month-old female Bichon/Chinese Crested mix arrived at 10 weeks with yeast infections in her ears and now seems to have it again. I feed her canned and dry allergy formula Natural Balance, occasional yogurt, vegetable scraps and occasional apple (could this be the culprit?). She has been scratching a lot lately, but especially the ears. I used some white vinegar to clean them but I am not sure it has worked.
To answer your questions:
1. Whether the dog is fearful?
Very rarely -- vacuum cleaner. Not big dogs.
2.Does the dog show emotions of affection and love or not?
Yes!This has just started.
3.do you ever see tears trickling down the eyes?
Very rarely.
4.Does it wag its tail as soon as she gets attention or is unresponsive?
Big wagger!
5.What is the colour of the hair?
Mostly black, some white.
6.How it responds to each change of place by you.Whether reduced appetite or any such thing?
Not much response -- she'll stay close to me, but she is also very curious about everything.Yesterday was her first snow and she was fascinated.
1.Please inform whether he likes cold surroundings or hot. I mean in which temperature environment he feels good.
I haven't noticed anything, except when she has a bath, she shivers.
2.does he prefer warm or cold food?
Never tried warm. She's a good eater of cold food.
3.How is his liking for sweet stuff or alternatively what is the intake of sweet things.
Ahhh -- she has been known to sneak a cough drop and she loves apple -- goes crazy when I am eating it.
4.How is the thirst?
Good but not excessive.
5. is he thin overall or in legs portion only?
Under all that hair she is very thin.
6.What is the colour of the discharge from the ear?
I don't see any discharge. But I can smell the yeast infection and see the characteristic scratching.

Hello!
I know this post is almost 10 years old, but I am hopeful that someone can help me. My poor dog has had yeast infections in her ears(mostly the left, but both at some times - currently it is both ears, although the right ear just recently developed) and I have tried western medicine, Chinese medicine, moving to a raw diet, changing meat types in the raw diet, supplements, you name it. Her ear infection goes away sometimes with treatment but then comes back. She is constantly licking herself(mostly her anus and stomach area) and I can't seem to get rid of her fleas(I refuse to put Advantage or Frontline on her and have been using essential oil spays, etc.). Se is a very smelly dog and some of her skin is turning black where she itches and licks all the time(she is a white haired dog and has very light pink skin). I will answer the previous questions that have been put to the other posters.
1. Whether the dog is fearful? She growls when being picked up or touched in a sensitive area(feet, ears, stomach) and hides when she knows a bath or "treatment" is coming.
2. Does the dog show emotions of affection and love or not? Yes, she is very loving and greets us happily when we come home, always wanting to sit on our lap/ or be near someone and be petted.
3.do you ever see tears trickling down the eyes? No
4.Does it wag its tail as soon as she gets attention or is unresponsive? Yes
5.What is the colour of the hair? White
1.Please inform whether she likes cold surroundings or hot. I mean in which temperature environment he feels good. She seems to seek out warm places or soft blankets when resting, but her body is very damp(she seems to be sweating a lot). She does not like baths and shivers uncontrollably when the warm water in not on her.
2.does she prefer warm or cold food?
Doesn't seem to matter - her raw food comes frozen and I defrost in the fridge and then add some warm water when serving.
3.How is his liking for sweet stuff or alternatively what is the intake of sweet things.
She does like sweet things when she can eat sneak it off the table when my kids leave food out(but then, she eats whatever she can sneak of the table).
4.How is the thirst?
She seems thirstier than normal recently
5. is she thin overall or in legs portion only?
Legs are thin - she reminds me of a dear
6.What is the colour of the discharge from the ear?
White to light yellow when I see it(the hair around her ears in yellowish(she is a schnoodle(15 lbs.) so she has floppy ears and long hair). Otherwise, it is tinged with blood from constantly scratching.
Let me know if their are any other questions!
