The ABC Homeopathy Forum

I just can't seem to lose weight, no matter what I try

I'm a 45-year-old woman and am keen to knock off some 7-8 kilos. I'm in a sedentary job which requires me to sit in front of my computer the whole day, and with a full-time domestic help, there's not much I do at home either. To counter this, I take a brisk walk of about 6 kms, 5 evenings a week, and as a rule, eat a very low-fat, low-carb, but well-rounded diet. Inspite of this, I don't seem to lose any weight. I don't have a thyroid or sugar problem, either. Is there something in homeopathy that can help without causing any side effects like a sudden spike in metabolic rate that has the potential to create problems for some people. Thank you.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.

I am also obese.I have been studying homeopathy for the last four years, and I am yet to find a medicine, that reduces weight,by increasing the metabolism rate.

The only option looks to be to take more 'negative calorie' foods. The negative calorie foods mean, foods that consume more energy for digesting, than they give.Ofcourse, sensible exercise also is important.

Pl.try a google search.

This site is interesting.

I know it is easier said than done.

Murthy, thanks for your reply. I'll check out the website given by you. But you know, what I eat on a per day average is less than what dieticians recommend. I can bet you that if I eat a dietician's diet, I'll put on weight mighty fast! Which is why I'm really keen now to turn to safe medication like homeopathy.

One of our posters has written that Natrum Phos 6X seems to work.

Joe De Livera wrote this, and I tried to find the post to paste it and couldn't.

Said to take a dose twice daily. Exercise, walking. Said the loss of weight is continual until reaching desired weight.

One must also study foods intake and keep the body on alkaline balance not acid. There are books on this to inform you how to do so.

Joe is in Sri Lanka and is helping over there. He has reported he was not hurt.

I am planning to do this diet myself and I will tell the forum how it develops.

Thanks, Sabra. Are you a homeopath?

What dosage would you recommend of Natrum Phos 6X? Is is safe to have over a long time period?

I'll try to incorporate alkaline foodstuffs in my diet. I do have a tendency towards acidity. I'm told that lemons and grapefruit have an alkaline effect on the body, even though they're citrus fruits.

I've been taking a glass of warm water laced with honey and lemon for years now. This is supposed to aid weight loss, but I think it's just an old wives tale.

Calc phos, among other things, helps in chronic wasting diseases.
As far as I can remember, it takes water out of the body, but not the fat. This is where the weight loss comes in.
Try this in a 6x no more than twice a day for a week and see if you have any effects you don't feel comfortable with as too much water loss can lead to other problems, Im sure you can appreciate.

Dear Shobhana, yes a homeopathic practitioner for 40 years.

I wrote the dosage as Dr De Livera suggested. Twice daily in 6X.

He is a doctor and I trust his judgement. He is 75 and is walking experience.

A friend of mine has been using it for at least 3 weeks. He has increased his wt by 3 kgs. The homeopath (he doesn't know about Nat Phos 6x) said that in winter (in India) you normally put on weight. Not sure if its true ...

Hi, Shobhana - if you eat sensibly and exercise and are still not losing weight, consider two things. One is to get your metabolic rate up naturally by exercising 10 minutes at a time, about a half hour before meals - besides, upping the metabolic rate by short-period exercise keeps it higher all day.
Another factor you might have to accept is that if you have no physical problems from being a bit overweight and aren't actually obese, your body's mean may just be more than you would like. In which case, I suggest that you continue eating sensibly, but accept that you might not lose any weight and that your body is happy being the way it is.
There are some meds. used in homeopathy for weight loss, but I would never advise anyone to take them unless they have actual problems.
I think you're likely fine as you are. BTW, what is your height / weight, anyway?
Keep well!

Hi Shobhana, There's a book by Dr. Christine Northrup on menopause (and peri-menopause), the name of which escapes me at the moment, that explains what happens to a woman's body at a "certain age". Many of us do naturally gain some weight approaching menopause and for some of us, there's not a whole lot to be done about it! Exercise and a sensible diet are always recommended for health, but losing the extra pounds can be next to impossible. For some women, Northrup tells, the weight will miraculously fall off after the beginning of menopause only to be gained back again a few years later. I have experienced this myself and I know how frustrating it is! Do try to find the book - Amazon carries it. And good luck to you.

Shobana - I just remembered the name of the book. It's The Wisdom of Menopause.

Shobana ~ I'm sorry, I don't really have an answer for you. I just have a suggestion...I think you should see a homeopath who can determine your constitutional remedy. I know for myself, last June, the remedy I was to take was Calcarea Carbonica. It's not that taking the Calcarea had me lose weight, it was the mindset it put me in. In about two days, it's effect was a positive one. I ate "clean" (absolutely clean) for seven weeks on a dose of Calc. Carb 10M. Now, I've had to go to another remedy because another layer came up, however, I'm sure I'll be put back on the Calc. Carb. because my homeopath seems to think it's my constitutional remedy. I think having a homeopath find your constitutional remedy would do you some good. Could it be you're subconsciously holding onto the extra weight for a reason? Suppressed grief, anger, etc...?

Thanks for all the responses. I have a suspicion that my hormones could well be the culprit in preventing weight loss, considering that fact that my diet is controlled and that I walk about 5 days a week. The idea of seeing a homeopath who'll determine my constitutional remedy is a good one and a friend of mine has recommended a very good doctor in my city.

One should at least understand his constitutional base on acid, base & water balances or three ayurvedic constitutions & than take remedies effecting these(pH) imbalances. Otherwise it can act 'just opposite'.

Digestive pHs can be just opposite to internal pHs.Acid/alkaline ash forming foods can their effect on internal pH but can be opposite to digestive pHs.

My apologies for not having posted my discovery for weight loss earlier which Sabra was searching for in this Forum.

I would like to place on record that I am not a Doctor and am also not qualified in Homeopathy. I have however actively studied it as many who post on this forum but are not qualified, have done with the exception that I do not subscribe to the classical method of diagnosis and treatment prescribed in the texts. My approach to an ailment is more allopathic and I have found that this open mindedness usually has worked. I have been involved in the subject for the last 35 years and I feel that I owe my sense of wellness at age 75 to my exclusive use of Homeopathic remedies with a BP of 120/80 Pulse 65. It gives me pleasure to help anyone in distress who comes to me for assistance which I gladly provide with the remedy, free of charge.

My post is dated December 25 and I shall copy it below:

A few months ago I discovered that Natrum Phosphoricum (Nat Phos) 6x which I had given a few friends who came to me complaining of acidity after meals, also had a most unusual reaction on their weight. They discovered that they shed their weight by between 2 to 3 kg per week, on their normal daily regimen of eating and exercise. They informed me that they passed more water than usual and that they felt much lighter in their bodies and were happy to be able to use their old garments which they had been compelled to discard over the years.

My discovery may be considered as unbelievable but it is indeed true as anyone who is overweight can discover for him or her self. The use of Nat Phos 6x on a daily basis is quite safe as it constitutes a concentration of only 1/1Millionth of the salt. It promotes Peristalysis in the stomach and gut thereby reducing the build up of acidity in the stomach which leads to heart burn. It has been in use for many years as the ultimate remedy for acidity especially after a heavy meal but it has never been used, as far as I know, to reduce weight. The dose is 3 tablets Nat Phos 6x taken twice daily, or 2 tablets taken thrice daily, preferably after meals.

It is possible that my discovery can be considered as an important milestone in the Materia Medica of Homeopathic Remedies for the treatment of Obesity and I would recommend that those who use this simple remedy will please post their observations on their weight loss on this Forum.

I have no doubt now in my mind that Nat Phos 6x really works in the reduction of weight. The latest recorded case was of a 35 year old lady who was 85 kg in weight who started on the remedy on Dec 28. She has recorded a loss of 8kg up to today and I have suggested that she reduces the dosage to just 1 tablet twice daily to stabilize her weight at 78kg which she feels is now comfortable. There is perceptible reduction in the size of her arms, legs and body. I have however had 2 reports of no loss of weight and one of them was Murthy (bandarababu 2000) who first reported that he was feeling lighter but did not lose any weight. This is perhaps because he is an inveterate coffee drinker and this may have had some bearing on the efficacy of the Nat Phos. The other case was an asthmatic who was on a regular dose of drugs for his asthma which perhaps reacted with the remedy.

I have been busy during the past few days with getting the approval of our Department of Health for the two teams who are members of Homeopaths Without Borders who are due to arrive in Sri Lanka shortly. They are all qualified MD's and the first team of 3 arrives here on Jan 26th from France and the other team comprising 5 will follow from the US early next month.

Homeopathy is not popular here in Sri Lanka and I succeeded to get clearance for them on the basis of their Medical degrees. I hope that they will be able to help the survivors of the Tsunami who are now in refugee camps, most of which do not have any medical facilities. It is my hope that their work will open the eyes of the medical fraternity here who are usually prejudiced against the use of Homeopathic remedies to help in the treatment of disease. I am hoping that these Homeopaths will succeed in helping cases which are now liberally doped with Vallium, Librium and Prozac to name just a few of the drugs that are used to 'help' the Post Trauma of the survivors of the Tsunami, all of which only give limited relief and can also make the users of these drugs addicted to them.

Thanks ever so much, Joe. I'll get cracking on Nat Phos 6x and will definitely get back to the group with how I fare on this medicine. And since I suffer from acidity as well, it will be doubly beneficial for me.

It seems like a miracle that the 35-year old lady lost so much weight in just 20 days. Did she also follow an exercise regimen and eat a healthy diet? I can't wait to start!

In her posting of January 14, Sabra had mentioned she'd try this out as well. I wonder if she did and whether it's worked for her.

A sincere thank you to everyone who's responded to my query. I can't tell you how crushed I feel when inspite of all my exercise and careful diet, I remain as heavy as ever.

A friend of mine took Nat Phos 6x on my recommendation after me reading the posting of Mr Joe De Livera. However he has increased his wt by 3 kgs (as of last week). He has purchased 3 bottles of Dr Schwabe. There is also a post of Mr Murthy (bandarbabu2000)using it and it has also not affected him. Probably bodys constituion, I guess !!

This is a very interesting development where Nat Phos 6x has increased the weight of someone by 3kg. This is an exception and not the rule and I would like to investigate this matter further.

As I mentioned in my first post my discovery was accidental when it was noticed that the remedy which I gave to help a gastric condition also reduced her weight.

I would like to know if the person who gained weight, if he used any drugs which may have caused this increase. Is there any other reason for this surprising rise in weight which has not been recorded from over 50 persons who are now taking it, almost all of whom have reported positive results.

Yesterday, when I went to buy Nat Phos 6x, the sales lady told me it was a bio-chemical medicine. This scared me. Does that mean that this is not 100% homeopathic? I also hope there are no side effects of this medication, considering the 'chemicals' in it.

Homeopathy is the only medication I trust -- I don't even try herbal medicines that you can buy off the shelf in any pharmaceutical store as I'm told that these products often are not 100% herbal.

I am copying below a short introduction to Biochemical Cell Salts which will answer your question. There are 12 Cell Salts used in Homeopathy and all of them are used extensively and are absolutely safe. A 6x salt has just 1 Millionth of the original salt, in this case Nat Phos or Sodium Phosphate.

" Mineral, or tissue salts in the body can be used as healing agents for particular health problems. Homeopathic doctor, Wm. Schuessler, discoverer of the twelve cell salts, and the Biochemic System of Medicine, felt that every form of illness was associated with imbalances of one or more of the indispensable mineral salts. In addition, his research indicates that homeopathically prepared minerals help to maintain mineral balance in the body, and are used by the body as core, building nutrients at the cellular level. As with other homeopathic remedies, mineral salts are used to stimulate corresponding body cell salts toward normal metabolic activity and health restoration. They "re-tune" the body to return it to a healthy balance.

Cell salts are based on homeopathic remedies and may be used in healing programs with other homeopathic treatment. Only very small amounts are needed to properly nourish the cells."

I agree with courageous, I had tried everything for a couple of years, treadmill on the incline, running up and down hills etc. I have recently started to lose weight after constitutional homeoopathic treatment. Not only does it make you feel better and stronger, you actually have the energy to do a workout. Don't look at it as a quick fix though, it takes time and patience. Remember it takes a long time to get to the place you are at, and it takes time to rectify.

Shobhana,

Can you please let me know if the Nat Phos 6x you have been taking for approximately a month has had the desired result ?

FYI a lady who took it since the beginning of January lost 8.5kg in 6 weeks. I suggested that she reduces the dose to just 1 pill after lunch and dinner and she has stabilized her weight which is just right for her now.

SaltoftheEarth ~ Yes, having your constitutional treatment done does eventually make you a strong person. For myself, I did have some emotional layers to get rid of, but, it was all worth going through it - to clear all that "bad" stuff. I'm so glad it all worked out for you!

Mr. DeLivera ~ Does a person continue to take the Nat Phos 6x indefinitely, even if they've achieved the weight loss they wanted?

Courageous last decade
You do not have to take the Nat Phos after you have achieved your ideal weight.

In the case of the lady referred to above who lost 8.5kg she is now on just one tablet twice daily and she is keeping her weight under control. I do not think that she has to take it today but she does not like to be without it as it has worked a miracle in her weight which she had been trying to reduce for the last 2 years with diets, yoga, aerobatics etc. They all helped her but not to the extent of the Nat Phos. which worked with hardly any effort on her part and with her normal diet and exercise.
