This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Not sure why we have a mechanical proceedure on a homeopathic site.

Well....a mechanical "procedure" is the only way to get them out....would you rather I have said, take a vitamin and then just sit back and do nothing? Im trying to help people!

Good call Matt32. These things are just plain wicked. Any advice is appreciated.

I've suffered from tonsil stones on and off for years. Sometimes I go months or years without one, then I go through a phase where I get them repeatedly for a bit... Anyhow, the best thing I've found to help extract the darn things is an oral irrigator. I got mine from a dentist when I had my wisdom teeth cut out and was instructed to 'irrigate' the open pockets to flush out debris. It is a little syringe with a hook-nosed pointy tip - perfect for reaching back there and blasting a tonisl crypt with a flood of water. 9 times out of 10 I flush the stones out on the first try. Hope this helps.

Re: Tonsil stones From minddoctor on 2006-03-03
Thanks to everyone who has written in about this nasty matter. Two months ago, I started suffering from this condition, but I had no idea until tonight what this was. It started after sufferng from two severe colds this winter, one on top of the other. I am 33 and have a history of mono during my teenage years, followed by chronic strep throat. I've also had a problem with white matter on my tongue for about two years now. I've recently started suffering with allergies, after bragging through most of my life that I wasn't allergic to anything. My 21 year old sister suffers from the same ailment, and my mother did as well, prior to having her tonsils removed (makes me wonder if there might be some genetic predisposition?). Both my sister and myself have received zero helpful information from those in the medical field ("it's just food" and "everyone's tongue looks like that"). Like many other testimonials on this site, it seems to get worse with dairy products, smoking, and possibly alcohol. I am definately tired, although have no other physical complaints to speak of. Tonsils tend to feel chronically swollen and uncomfortable, especially after one of the stones passes (or I make it pass). I wonder if it's best to get them out, or just leave em alone?

a water-pik will do wonders along with a tool perfect for the job... a long ,plastic disposable thing with a tiny hoop at the end. youve probly seen them at your doctors office. help youself to one while your blowing up a glove for you child to play with while you wait in that little room for an hour...its not stealing, they owe it to you. also, add a little hydrogen peroxide to the water-pik tank and get the back of that tongue clean! youll be talking face to face with people with confidence again as long as you do this every day and stay away fom foods like nuts & seeds, popcorn and the like. good luck!

i didnt mention the obviouse, but the water-pik is to be used directly in the crypts of your tonsils on a low pressure. by the way, this may not be exactly homeopathic, but its alot less invasive than having your tonsils yanked out and less painful

I suffered from tonsil stones for over 3 yrs. So I completely know how everyone feels in this forum.

I’ve tried everything, my doctor initially thought it was an infection and prescribed me antibiotics. That didn’t help at all. I then went to see a Throat Specialist, he told me tonsil stones are very common. Most people have got them, but they don’t notice it because they just swallow it. The reason why people get the balls stuck at the back of your throat, is because when you eat, food gets stuck in the tiny holes called the tonsil crypts.

So over time, the tiny holes (tonsil crypts) in your tonsils get filled up with bacteria and food particles which then become smelly. There is one way of removing the balls in your throat, use a water jet syringe and squirt the water onto the white ball. But that’s only a temporary relief, because it will grow again.

I’ve seen 2 naturopaths and 1 homeopath about my problem, but they couldn’t help either. I have to say I have spent almost $800, just seeing naturopaths and specialists.

A few months ago, a friend introduced me to this berry juice called the Himilayan Goji Juice. I’ve been taken it for a few months now, and my tonsil stones have completely gone! Its just unbelievable, the juice is made up of a berry called Goji (Lycium Barbarum). You may not have heard of Goji before, but it has been used in traditional Asian medicine remedies for generations.

What encouraged me to give it a try is that it is formulated by the Nutritionist Dr Earl Mindell, the man who wrote the Vitamin Bible, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

I really think you should try this juice, as it has certainly helped me. I drink 30mls everyday in the morning. Here is the website, give it a try.

Let me know if it helped you too!

Help--I have these nasty white things growing in the crevices of my tonsils. They smell like a barn yard.
I work in the medical profession, and after doing x-rays on a little girl- I went back to clean the room, and the mother was talking to the father and said that it smelled as if the x-ray girl ate poo and still has some in her mouth. How embarrasing. How do I get rid of these stinky things?

Sometimes you wonder about the medical profesion. The ENT I went to told me that I should have the tongsils cut .I got on the internet and saw that it was a bacteria .After refusinf to get the tongsils cut the ENT specialist prescribed antibiotics,so they kill all the bacteria .The good bacteria that could counteract the bad is taken out and if you have a high sugar diet it just feeds the bad bacteria and those balls just grow quicker.
Good oral hygiene including scraping the tongue ,back off on the sugar and wheat products ,take some plain unsweetened yogourt to replace the good bacteria.Of course a good mouthwash will help.

I have had tonsil stones for about 2 years. At first I avoided them, but as the years went on I realized it just gets worse. I never knew what they were until today and I am happy to say that I don't feel like the only one that has these nasty little things growing in there. They are embaressing and smell terrible. I am not even comfortable any more kissing my boyfriend of 7 years. I don't know what to do, any suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I have to say I've tried anti-biotics many times and it didn't help. Anti-biotics are used for infections, tonsil stones are not infections but food particles which have been trapped in the tonsil crypts (tiny holes in your tonsils).

As time passes by, the food particles begin to accumulate bateria, which is the cause of the foul smell. I have had tonsil stones for 3 years. I've been to medical doctors, specialists, naturopaths and homeopaths. They just kept giving me herbal medicine or anti-biotics which never got rid of my problem. After a while, the cost of my medicine was adding up.

One day I went to this Body, Mind and Health expo. And there was a store there selling Himilayan Goji Juice. I found out that goji berry is one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet, and I never even heard of it. After doing some research, I found out its backed by the an international nutritionist called Dr. Earl Mindell, which conducted 8 years of research into this berry. He is the man who wrote the Vitamin Bible which sold more than 10 million copies.

Anyway, I did some research on w w w. p u b m e d. org, and typed in 'Lycium Barbarum', which is the name of the berry and found over 72 medical studies on it.

Then I also went to w w w. g o j i b o o k. com, and found lots of information on this amazing berry.

For the last 5 months, I've been drinking 2 onces of this juice everyday. Its just incredible, I have not seen a tonsil stone at all! How it worked on me i'm not sure. But all I know is that its definately have eliminated the balls in my throat. You can get the juice at w w w. e v e r l a s t i n g. f r e e l i f e. c o m. You probably need to try it for a month or two before your see the results.

Anyway, hope this helps.

I get these annoying things too. I get them more often when I am sick or about to get sick which makes sense since the tonsils are the body's first line of defense against invaders.

The best tools for their removal that I have found are 1. a miniflashlight that bends like those for reading books in bed. 2. a professional pimple extractor (sold at sephora) it has a loop on one side and a scoop with a hole on the other side (it works like the bobby suggestions but much more precise). 3. ALCOHOL swabs! The implements need to be sterile before you stick it onto your tosils or you will make it worse or give yourself an infection in the process!

Finally consider the stones like you would pimples. (just on the inside of your throat instead of on your skin). When they are ready to be extruded they should come out with minimal pressure by looping the metal loop around it and pressing down gently on the tonsil and pulling it outward. The end effect should be minimal contact with the tonsil so you don't irritate it further.

I want to know if there is something that can get rid of them completely. I don't want temporary relief. There nasty and such a turn off. Sticking all these tools down your throat may not be the safest thing either right? If you get your tonsils out would this get rid of them completely?

Hello fellow stoners! First, let me say that I have experienced what many of you have in regard to the stones. It is a sad, disgusting situation and I feel for all of us that must endure through this. Second, be very aware of people trying to peddle 'magic juices', devices, and other snake oils to 'cure' what we have. You peddlers shlould take it somewhere else because we are on to you! Third, the water pik thing is dangerous. It has too much pressure to be squirting on the tonsils the way we need it to. Let me say that from my personal experience, using your washed middle finger to prod the stones out is very effective. Just do this every 2-3 days to prevent the buildup. Because it is your very sensitive finger that you are putting into your mouth, you will be able to actually feel the stones and push/prod them out. This method has proven very effective for me because it is safe, fast, inexpensive, and most of all very effective. It is my sincerest hope to all of my fellow 'stoners' out there that this brings the needed relief that we all desperately want and need. Also, i make sure that I brush a minimum of twice a day, I eat clean, healthy food, and follow my tooth-brushing with an excellent mouthwash. I use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water (half water and half peroxide). It is dirt cheap and you waon't get a better mouth sterilization that doesn't burn! God bless all!!

I have been mystified and depressed about what to do about these for years, and then a couple weeks ago (at age 48), I FINALLY figured-out how to take care of this! Here is what I do: I make sure my fingernails are trimmed short and are well-filed so there are absolutely NO sharp or rough edges. I wash my hands very thoroughly with antibacterial soap, using very warm water. Then I actually load my toothbrush with more antibac soap and scrub my forefingers and entire nail area very well. I follow with hand santitizing gel. Then I bend over the bathroom sink, and reach back to my right tonsil with my right forefinger, and find the crest or center ridge area that runs along the length of the tonsil. Then I apply firm, steady pressure and run my forefinger slowly down the length of my tonsil, and push the tonsil stones out, and then spit them into the sink. Sometimes I have to repeat the procedure a few times on each tonsil (I use left forefinger on left tonsil), and sometimes I have to use the blunt but SMOOTH end of my fingernail to carefully 'dig' or push the 'stones' out. Afterwards, I gargle well with an antiseptic mouthwash. And it works! It may take you a while to master this, but patience and perserverance paid-off for me. I just suggest that you take your time, be careful, and realize that you may do some gagging before you are able to tolerate this without gagging. And until you can do this without gagging, you may want to do it only first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I do it a couple times a week, and I can't tell you what a difference it has made in my breath, and my OUTLOOK!

I used to get this every now and then. I tried digging with finger but didn't work. Finally, I figured out a way to get those stones out and that is by using a clean drinking straw. Place the straw over the stone and give it a little push. The stone will just pop into the straw easily without gagging. Now I keep a bag of straws in my bathroom drawer.

Instead of using your finger or bobby pins, go to the local hobby shop and purchase some of those long wooden Q-tips. they are the best thing to reach back and to push them out with. Regular Q-tips are to short and bend easily. I also have one of those dental suction devices which also works wonders to clear out the open cavities.

I've been suffering from tonsil stones for 5 years now. Even after a good few months of drinking the goji juice, I started to see my tonsil stones appear again.

I never knew why I was getting tonsil stones, until I started to do some research on the internet. I found this book called Tonsil Stones Remedies. I thought if I was already spending so much money seeing ENT and specialist doctors. I might as well give this book a try, I have to say I was a big sceptical at first.

However, after reading this book, I found the information to be incredible. This book was the answer to what I have been looking for 5 years. This book teaches you how to Prevent and Get rid of tonsil stones, not for a short amount of time, but for ever. It is a home remedy treatment to getting rid of tonsil stones. After trying it for 2 months, there has been no reoccurrence of my tonsil stones at all. I wanted to say thanks to the author of this book, you are really a life saver! If you want to check this book, go to:

The best way to get them out is to act like a cat trying to bring up a hairball!
This pushes out on the tonsils like your coughing up flem or something, if you know what I mean.
Or like when you get a pocorn skin stuck in your throat and your trying to clear it out.
It works!

Hello all.

I've had tonsil stones for about 5 years and have recently come to realize that I suffer from post nasal drip. I quit smoking recently but that hasn't helped my sinus problems. I'm fairly certain that my PND and tonsil stones are related so now it's just a matter of figuring out how to mitigate the PND. Anyone else suffer from PND and tonsil stones?

Also, I'm pretty sure I don't suffer from halitosis (often linked with tonsil stones) I've given myself the breath tests and asked my mother to smell my breath and be honest and it would seem my breath is normal. Are there others suffering from tonsil stones but not halitosis?

I also have PND along with tonsil stones.
The tonsil stones are only there accasionaly but I've had mine off and on for well over 10 years.
The PND I've had almost all my life, and I'm sure if I stoped drinking milk and eating dairy this would help the PND.
I believe the tonsil stones are a by product of PND as well as calcium and other odd things we consume. It just builds up and when the canal gets too full it pushes the stones out.
But try to harr with your throat concentrating on the side that you can see the stones that need to come out.
If you need to see the stones or know they are there beofre this will work.
Mine drove me crazy and hurt until I figured this out.

Hello.. i'm new to both the forum format and tonsil stones but wanted to respond to this. which, by the way, i'm thrilled to have found this site and very reassured by the huge response confirming that this is in fact quite a common problem.
So, i've been really tired lately and felt like my throat was closing up last week. then i was just being curious and looking in my mouth with a mirror when i saw 2 white 'bumps' on my left tonsil. i went to the Dr. where i got negative test results for both strep and mono and a sound diagnosis of 'Who Knows??' unsatisfied i googled and ended up here. last night i popped out 2 of the stones and it seems like there is still another one in there today when i looked in better light. HOW deep are these cavities?!?
i feel like this came out of nowhere, i'm an very healthy young woman (26,)eat well, i do not have bad breath nor PND from what i'm aware of.. i do eat dairy but have my entire life so why this now?? i've read almost all of these posts and still dont have an answer to what causes the ONSET of these stones. the only thing that i have changed in recent times is that i started taking a low dose birth control pill. other than that everything is the same!
clearly based on what you all say this is something that can go undetected for a long time.. one thing now that i'm wondering about now is awhile back i felt like my throat was closing while i was trying to fall asleep.. i would get scared, sit up and take a sip of water. i thought i had sleep apnea or stress~ this was awful but eventually went away until just recently. do you think it could've been stones i was unaware of?? i guess that would make sense.
also, is there any reason that some people have deep tonsular cavities and others dont? are you born like that or is it from something else??
i hate to admit this but i was bulemic for a few years but have completely recovered and that was over 4 years ago. i'm just wondering if i damaged my tonsils and thats why i now have big cavities subject to getting these stones.
i appreciate your input.
