Sudden High Fever

My son aged 6 has come down with sudden fever. No warning signs whatsoever other than his brother just getting over flu so we kind of knew it was comming. Did our best to thwart off virus with proteolytic enzymes, probiotics, vitamin D, C, medicinal mushrooms, and M.M.S., but to no avail.

Instant fever starts at 101 and then he has to lay down where it will reach 103 degrees. Intense heat, son is basically unconcious. Seems like a perfect fit for Belladonna and gave him 3 doses but it never seems to get rid of fever. As a baby used to get febrile seizures but ever since using Belladonna 30 at age 2.5 years old hes never had another seizure. Like I said seems like a great fit but it doesnt seem to control the very high fever on its own. Im not about to let him sit at 103 for many hours so I always end up resorting to Ibuprofen which I dont want to do but I dont want to chance a seizure or permanent damage. Acetaminophen has never worked on his fever for some strange reason.
Is there another remedy that may help control his fever or should I increase the potency of Belladonna?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Ryelink

Dealing with high fever on forums is difficult and that is the reason for lack of response to your queries.

Since how many days the fever is there?

You have to rule out meningitis and septicemia in high fevers.

Are there any rashes? Is the child able to bend the neck freely towards the chin?

Most of the high fevers are viral in nature. They last a couple of days and subside on their own.

What are the other symptoms along with high fever?

Without full details it is difficult to suggest remedies.

We have to look into many aspects like thirst, sleeping posture, whether he seems restless or lying still, his mood, sweat etc.

A look at the patient will make us to decide on the medicine quickly.

As I told earlier it is difficult in a forum set up.

Don't you have any good homeopath nearby where you can take your child?

Fever started Friday morning.
It has since subsided.

Neither

No rashes, yes can bend the neck forward without issue

Yes, this was definetely a viral issue. I just get concerned due to his past history of seizures. I dont want to overdose him on Belladonna either so want to make sure this remedy is correct.

What are the other symptoms along with high fever?

Historically whether his fever was viral or bacterial, his symptoms are the same. Extreme heat throughout his body. When takes a fever it always spikes very quickly. Wants to lay down and sleep. Lays still, his body stays stretched out, doesn't want to drink, doesn't sweat, has the chills, moans a bit. His mood is fine (when hes awake).

Unfortunetely I have taken my boys to various homeopaths over the years with never any positive changes noted. I then decided to handle their cases myself after much study. I found that I was over analyzing everything and constantly looking for imperfections/problems in them. Ive come to the realization that Ive done them more harm than good by studying them so Ive taken a step back and am accepting things as they are. I still have the strong desire for their optimum health, which wont ever change.

Gavini, youve always responded to my inquiries over the years and I really appreciate your dedication to this site.
Thanks.

I understand the anxiety of parents when their childern have fever. They can't bear to see an active child lying like that.

However it is important to understand that fever is the body's immune response and as long as it is within limits allowing it to continue will cut short the attack.

The best way to bring down a child's temperature when it crosses 104 F is to sponge for 15 to 20 minutes with luke warm water on the forehead and the arm pits.
That will bring the fever down by about two degrees and preempt the possibility of seizures. Never use cold water.

One can choose homeopathic medicines to the best of his ability and try the medicine for three times. There is no point in going beyond three doses. If the response is not adequate change the medicine. You can give a series of medicines this way and there is no harm in that as the intensity of fever nullifies the effect of homeopathic medicines quickly.

Study the symptom complex associated with fevers for the commonly useful medicines.

Ars, Bry, Rhustox, Gelsemium, Ant.tart are the basic ones to study first.

Try to understand how to differentiate between them.

please report if you succeed in your endevour with out any paracetamol.

I am not averse to using paracetamol if required.

I advise to use it in the nights where recording the temperature frequently and sponging if necessary is impractical.

However I reserve it to fevers that tend to go above 104 F.

Paracetamol helps and does not interfere with Homeopathic medicines.

paracetamol (tylenol) has no effect on my son for fevers. Ive always found that odd but don't know why.

Advil (ibuprofen) does work.
I dont want to use it on my son but with seizure history Im very nervous about high fevers for lengthy periods.

Maybe Im wrong, but that is the reality of what ive been doing.

I will most likely give Belladonna again next fever (hopefully it wont be for a year of more) based on the fact that hes not had a seizure accompany the fever while on belladonna. Maybe this is all I should hope for.

Thanks for all the replies to my thread.

Any ailment accompanied by fever is a sign of some complications.

Seizures followed by high fever is probably due to hyper pyrexia. It may be followed by delirium tremens in some cases.
It is necessary to Individualize the patientÂ’s symptoms for the selection of a correct remedy.

Fevers may be

1.Simple fever
2.Intermittent fever
3.Remittent fever
4. Hectic fever

In a simple fever or a so called viral fever we have following remedies as per the indication.

a)Aconite: No perspiration , body is dry, body ache and tossing about is the characteristic of the remedy.

b)Bell: There is perspiration flushed face headache , comes on suddenly and disappear suddenly (characteristic) . High fever muttering delirium or delirium tremens

c) Gels: High fever, dullness, drowsiness, does not like to move, but movement do not hurt. Better while quite.

d)Ars.alb: High fever with periodicity > at 1AM and 1PM. Thirsty, drinks little at a time, vomiting. body ache relieved by warm drink or hot application. Lips chapped , dry and scaly.

e)Bryonia Alb: high fever with bursting headache, body aching relieved by rest, aggrav. by movement. Thirsty but drinks large quantity at a time.
f)ver.vir: for hectic fevers. Where the temperature is 99 degr.Farenheit and fever comes generally in the evening and go away in the day time.

g)Rhustox: If the fever is caused by getting wet while perspiring especially in case of sudden rain. A draft of cold breeze either in the morning jogging or in the evening when temp suddenly drops down. Body ache brought about due to above cause aching is relieved by motion. Joint pain or acute arthritis.

h) Gentiana chiraita: A bilious fever. Body is dry , no perspiration. Very high fever. Sponging do not bring any relief.

i)Pyrogenium: Septic fevers due to any abscess or boil or physical truma. Any injury accompanied with swelling of the surrounding area.

j)Ferrum phos: A general biochemic drug for all cases of fevers and can be used as a supplement along side other homeo medicines. General indication is face flushed. High fever, anemic, nausea tic, anti inflammatory.

Last but not the least. Sulphur must not be forgotten if the best selected remedies do not act.

Friends , This is my observation, I hope most of you may be benefited.

I have not dealt here with Intermittent and Remittent fevers due to paucity of time.

Potency and dosage depends on the susceptibility of the patient.
