The ABC Homeopathy Forum

9 weeks pregnant

A homeopath dr has advised me to take pulsatilla 200ch, one pill for 3 mornings in a row. I have post nasal drip, which is becoming very annoying, and for the time being a mild sinus problem. I suffered from these during my previous pregnancy too, but at an extreme degree. Unfortunately back then I did not know of homeopathy and had taken several courses of antibiotics, which only slightly helped.

I am just searching for a second opinion, concerning the safety of this prescription, because my pregnancy is still at an early and crucial point. Thank you

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Pls no. pulsatilla 200 is not a remedy to be given during early stages of pregnancy. it is not advisable to take pulsatilla in start of the pregnancy till 7th month.

One more agreement that Pulsatilla is no good during early pregnancy.

In fact avoid Puls, China, Hepar and Silicea during pregnancy.

Thank you Dr. SriSri. Did you come across any experience or books that describe why not there remedies. Will be very helpful even if you describe any reasons.

My mentor has strongly precluded any nosodes during pregnany. His mentor (each having more than 40 years experience) has seen serious effects of nosodes on offspring

I spoke to my dr again with my concerns and he reassured me that it was safe. I was feeling worse today so I took 1 pill this morning, before I was able to access the internet and see your replies.Thank you so much for your replies.
I am so worried now that I took the pulsatilla. What problems could this cause??I would appreciate it if you could suggest another remedy for my conditions, as they are becoming very annoying and will continue to worsen.
Pls tell me why pulsatilla is considered dangerous. i believed that homeopathy was safe during pregnancy.
Thank you

In the following write-up you will find a peculiar indication of Pulsatilla. There it is indicated at the time of delivery, so some prescribers may think that as it is indicated specifically there it should not be taken earlier. But what your homeopathic consultant says is also true. So having taken pulsatilla you should not worry unnecessarily.

*****
70 to 90 PER cent OF CAESAREAN SURGERIES CAN BE DONE AWAY WITH THREE DOSES OF HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINE.

The foetus (baby in the uterus of the pregnant mother) 1-3 weeks prior to delivery date (so long remaining in upright position) turns upside down, and the uterus descends down in such a way that the head of the foetus remains fixed in the pelvic floor of the mother. 1-3 weeks later, at the delivery time the mouth of the uterus dilates and the child comes out. Even after the full term of ten months if the child does not turn upside down, or turns half-way and lies crosswise,
or
having turned upside down, does not descend further down, the attending lady doctor would say that head is still floating or is in incorrect position and so opens the abdomen to take out the child. This is called caesarean surgery. 70 to 90 per cent of caesarean surgeries at the present day are conducted solely for this reason.
At this time if the patient takes three doses of the homoeopathic medicine Pulsatilla-1000, every 4-8 hours, in the next twenty-four hours it would be a normal and safe delivery.

In the reference book The Accoucheur’s Emergency Manual by Dr. W. A. Yingling, M.D., of U.S.A. we find the following :

'Abnormal presentations may be righted if Pulsatilla is given before the membranes are ruptured or the presenting parts are firmly engaged…'

In a maternity hospital, Pollachi Road, Dharapuram, Tamilnadu, by using Pulsatilla and other remedies there has not been even a single caesarean for the past several years and the doctor in-charge has put up a board “Caesarean-free’’ Clinic. The Dharapuram Lions Club has given her a certificate testifying this.

Reva V, I would appreciate it if you could tell me what nosodes are. After looking it up I found this explanation:
'A nosode is a homeopathic remedy prepared from a pathological specimen. The specimen is taken from a diseased animal or person and may consist of saliva, pus, urine, blood, or diseased tissue.' I don't know if it is right, but what does this have to do with pulsatilla?? Please explain.

Thank you Kadwa for your post. It put my mind at ease. Pulsatilla best applies to my symptoms and I have used it, with great results in the past, especially for mucous related problems. Even with the first pill today I have seen a difference and I would like your opinion if I should continue according to the doctor's recommendations and take the other 2.
I would also appreciate it if someone could tell me if pulsatilla ISN'T safe, what problems can it cause.
Thank you.

Pulsatilla is an eliminative remedy (a tendency to expel). In early pregnancy, no medicine that has this tendency is suggested (even if symptoms match, in my opinion), because you dont want to expel the foetus.

I guess SriSri listed Hepar Sulph, Silicea for the same reason. Let us wait for his explanation. (dont know why not China)

There are several milder and safer medicines in Homeopathy that can be effective almost for every problems during pregnancy.

Dr. Kadwa's recommendation on Cell Salts are great. In my practice, I have found:

Ferrum Phos 6x, 10 to 15 pills (not 4 pills) mixed in 1/2 glass of warm water and drink all of these is far more effective than 4 pills taken dry on tongue. This can be repeated, every 4 hours and then less frequently. (I learned this from Dr. Prosado Banerjee's book - his 30+ years of experience)

Dr Joe in this forum has posted Ferrum Phos 30x more effective than any other potency in his experience.

I consider all the above cell salts are a safe try and should help.

With Winter now, I suggest to take a few doses of Nux Vomica 30, intercurrently (once in 4 days, 2 pills in the evening) should bring lasting results.

BTW, I suggest to keep these two remedies handly during pregnancy:

- BELLIS PER 6c (especially after the end of first trimester) to help back pain and almost every other problems specific to the early pregnancy.

- Alteris Far Q, 4 drops in 10 ml of warm water, repeated once a day for Morning Sickness if you have.

These two are Nutritious and a blessings to pregnant women.

Thank you Reva V for taking the time to answer my questions. I have searched it quite a lot and found many articles which suggested pulsatilla as a remedy for morning sickness. Morning sickness usually occurs the first few months of pregnancy. Are the authors not aware of the dangers? Or has it been successfully used without problems?

Pulsatilla:

Morning sickness with vomiting of mucus. Loathing nausea and retching after greasy food. Nothing tastes good to her. Great dryness in the mouth in the morning without thirst. Sensation as if the food were lodged undigested above the stomach. Craves fresh, cool air. Chilly yet aversion to heat. Pressure in the abdomen and back, as from stone. All gone sensation in the stomach; colicky pain; must change her position to relieve pain.

The following 5 remedies need lot of experience and considerable skill to be prescribed during pregnancy as all of them have the abortive tendency:

Silicea, China, Sepia, Pulsatilla, Sabina

To this list I add Hepar Sulph as well.

They are all abortive when not indicated. Since the prescriber needs to be extremely careful. Having said that Sabina can be extremely useful to prevent abortion upto the 5th month and after which Sepia comes in. You may note that quinine is still used to abort unwanted pregnancies in several countries.

The following tissue salt regime is found extremely useful in pregnancy:

Months 2 & 6: CF MP FP
3 & 7: CF MP NM
4 & 8: CF Sil NM
5 & 9: CF Sil FP

Rania.. pls don't worry much now. its OK. they say its always best to avoid pulsatilla during first few months of pregnancy just to avoid risk and prevent unnecessary use of it when the symptoms doesnt match 100%. so relax...your doc knows about you .Nothing bad is going to happen.Eat healthy ,take adequate rest and enjoy your beautiful days of being pregnant . ...Take care

They are abortive, but can be used to prevent abortion? This is comfusing.
What kind of doses are we talking about to cause miscarriage??

drpriyadarshini thank you. It is what I needed to hear. I'm worrying , hopefully unessecarily. I've read so many articles, that soon I'll become an expert, haha!!
My dr has treated me for the past 2 years and knows how I wanted to become pregnant, so he wouldn't give me something dangerous- I hope!
All the posts have made me so nervous, I'm looking for some reassurance!

I could understand how u feel...
if you read so many articles on homeopathy it will make you more nervous...unnecessarily. believe me...homeo is very confusing for someone who doesn't know about its concept. so stop reading and relax.
