Help with Lupus
Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems, including joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, heart, and lungs. Lupus occurs more frequently in women than in men,[2] although the reasons for this are unknown. Four types of lupus exist systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus, drug-induced lupus erythematosus and neonatal lupus. Of these, systemic lupus erythematosus is the most common and serious form of lupus. My Wife to be has been receiving treatment for Lupus and/or rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 23.
Right now this is just in her hands.
other symptoms she has complained about prior to this is severe abdominal pain.. it has gone away but, I wanted to mention that because that may have something to do with all of this! Not long ago she had a skin rash on her arm.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Lupus has to be handled carefully...as it can spread fast. If unchecked can be fatal.
First med to be given in such condition is Thuja 1M.
Give it 2moro morning on empty stomach...and nothing to eat/drink or brush teeth for 45 minutes after taking the med.
Ask her not to take coffee, garlic, avoid use of perfumes etc.
After 48 hours of taking the med...post feed back here.
The face of a Lupus patient gets butterfly shaped eruptions around the nose ...let me know if it is there.
I would request other prescribers also to give their guidance quickly.
Maybe some one is more experienced in handling such a case.

Homeopathic remedies for Lupus (SLE) or Butterfly

Lupus: Lupus is an autoimmune disease affecting mostly women and causing various effects throughout different parts of the body. Its severity can range from very mild to extremely serious depending on which body organs are afflicted.
Lupus is difficult to diagnose and often misdiagnosed unless there is a characteristic symptom such as the butterfly-shaped rash over the cheeks.
Lupus: Lupus (also called systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE) is a disorder of the immune system which normally functions to protect the body against invading infections and cancers. In lupus, the immune system is over-active and produces increased amounts of abnormal antibodies that attack the patient's own tissues. Lupus can affect many parts of the body, including the joints, skin, kidneys, lungs, heart, nervous system, and blood vessels. The signs and symptoms of lupus differ from person to person, and the disease can range from mild to life-threatening.
The following homeopathic remedies are useful for SLE
Sulfur,
Cistus can.
Jequirity,
Sepia,
Arsenicum,
Belladonna,
Calc. Carb.,
Silicea,
Kali mur,
Note: always take homeopathic medicine according to symtoms.
Please do not take any medicine without advice of homeopath or remember the symtoms before taking any medicine.

Bringing back this message as it applies to me. One problem with the repertory is it seems to concentrate on the word lupus to mean the cutaneous manifestations.
I had lupus in the SLE sense for 35 years. I was on low dose (2-3 mg Prenidsone) for 18 of those years. After constitutional treatment for several years and raising my vitality with acupuncture I have been off all medication without problems.
My symptoms were mostly joint pains, at times extreme sensitivity to sunlight, fatigue, and inability to eat most foods (reaction diarrhea and hives). In the past I could not have more than two minutes of sun exposure without itching and with more exposure a bright red spot appeared on my cheeks.
Will take a look at these individual remedies as a matter of interest, but as always consitutional treatment is the main key.

Forgot to state I am Natrum carbonicum. Sulphur certainly has helped me.
Silicea did nothing I was aware of. I was taking it for scar tissue. Didn't like the emotional tone of this remedy so I didnt' repeat it after 40 days and it is slow working so it wasn't a fair test for that purpose.
One of these days I will probably take Calc carb or Arsenicum for something, but haven't yet in five years so no idea of these.

Jequirity is known as what as a remedy? I remember reading about this once, but can't find it my references. The genus is Abrus - Indian licorice.
Does anyone know what I should look under for a name?

Thank you for the suggestion of Arsenicum for the scalp problems as I sometimes have this.
Overall, I think I would recommend constitutional treatment to raise general vitality rather than just treating an individual symptom, but when you are miserable it helps to know what to reach for.

There is currently no single test that can definitely say whether a person has lupus or not.
There are three different types of lupus - Discoid(cutaneous) lupus, Systemic lupus & Drug-induced lupus.
In approximately 10% of cases of discoid lupus, it evolves & develops into systemic lupus.
There are various factors thought to trigger the onset of lupus, or cause lupus to flare, these include - UV light, certain prescription drugs, infection, certain antibiotics, hormones, & possibly stress.
Approximately 95% of lupus patients have a positive ANA test.
90% of lupus sufferers are female.
Only about 30% of lupus sufferers actually have the classical 'butterfly' rash that is associated with lupus.
Approximately 10% of lupus patients actually have drug-induced lupus. Drug-induced lupus is usually less severe than SLE & will disappear after the patient stops taking the particular drug.
There is no way of telling how long a flare will last. After the initial flare, some lupus patients go into remission & never have another flare, but some patients can be in a flare for years.
Lupus patients are more likely to contract infections such as salmonella, herpes zoster & candida(yeast). Infections in lupus patients tend to last longer & require a longer course of treatment with antibiotics than infections in people who do not have lupus.
Fatigue, malaise, sleep disturbances, myalgias, cognitive impairment & gastrointestinal symptoms are frequent in patients with lupus, & yet may occur in the absence of an obvious disease flare or abnormal blood tests.
Fatigue, headache & cognitive dysfunction (memory, attention, concentration) are symptoms associated with central nervous system (CNS) involvement.

PANKAJ VARMA,
Thank you,
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the form of the disease that most people are referring to when they say 'lupus'. SLE can affect many parts of the body and its symptoms can range from mild to serious. Although SLE usually develops in people between the ages of 15 and 45 years, it can occur in childhood or later in life as well.
Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) mainly affects the skin, causing a red, raised rash on the face, scalp, or other parts of the body. The rash may become thick and scaly and may last for days or years. A small percentage of people with DLE later develop SLE.

Dear Doctor Hamid,
I was really impressed and touched when I accidently came across this web site. It really means a lot for so many people looking for help.
My sister started to have some symptoms of colitus 11 yrs. back when she went to Newfoundland.
She was exposed the strong UV rays, was homesick and depressed. the butterfly scars also started showing on her cheeks. Her medication for colitus started but her coitus was very sensitive to cold weather and spicy and sour food. Fortunately as she moved to a warmer place the coitus did not get too bad and is in control with medication- Asacol 400mg 5 tablets daily.
Later in 2002 her general medical test showed Lupus antibodies. She started having lot of joint pains, felt very weak and anaemic. Last yr.2005 she had thyroid problem and takes synthroid 2.5mcg daily.
in March a throat allergy developed and still persist and also started to have acute pain in her feet. The doctor says she has plantar facsitis.
I would be very grateful if you can advice some medication for her. As she has multiple problems its very confusing what she should go in for.
Please help!
Thank you,
Ettoo
