This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
A proving is where mostly new symptoms appear in the patient. They are the symptoms caused by the remedy, which can be clearly seen to belong to the remedy rather than the patient.

An aggravation is where the original symptoms of the patient worsen. Typically you will see very few new symptoms, provided the remedy has been accurately chosen for that patient.

A proving will not cure the patient. An aggravation is much more likely to cure (although there are many factors to take into account around why an aggravation is happening).

If the remedy is similar in its symptomology to what the patient has before taking it, you will get an aggravation. If the remedy is not very similar (so is poorly selected) you *might* get a proving instead, although you are more likely to get no effect at all.

A partial similar might produce both an aggravation and a partial proving - whether or not the patient improves after this will depend on how many old symptoms and how many new symptoms are being affected or created.

When a proving is reinforced by constant repetition of the remedy, it may take years to see those symptoms disappear. It is quite likely that they will never disappear without a remedy being chosen on the basis of both the new and old symptoms. This is why constant repetition of our medicines is so dangerous.

A remedy could provoke exotosis in a susceptible patient if given for long enough and often enough. A remedy could feasibly kill a patient too. Homoeopathy is a powerful tool and it should be afforded respect.
