sprained ankle/ankle pain

My daughter is a competitive swimmer. About 2 years ago she sprained her ankle falling down stairs. It healed but has been weaker than the other. About 2 weeks ago she hit that foot on the wall of the pool hard when doing a flip turn. I gave her arnica several times and then ruta. When icing and a brace plus remedies weren't helping we went to the dr. to check for a break. No breaks noted. The dr. prescribed a weeks rest, ice and bracing/crutches for her. He thinks it may possibly be a small piece of cartilage that broke off but we won't know for sure without an MRI, which I'd rather avoid. Any suggestions of what to try next?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
You need to give the symptoms, so that an appropriate remedy can be given.

Ailments from a sprain or injury actually might suggest hundreds of different remedies, so it is the specific symptoms that lead us to the right one.

It is also very likely that a chronic weakness like this actually has now taken on the qualities of the patient herself - so her 'constitutional' remedy may be needed to heal the problem. This means 'first aid' remedies will not solve it.

At least in the first instance, provide as a minimum level of detail:

1. What pain or sensation does she have in the ankle - be precise and descriptive.

2. What makes the ankle/pain worse?

3. What makes the ankle/pain better?

4. What symptoms tend to conicide with the main problem (mental/emotional/physical)?

If there are any other problems that happen to be going on at the same time, even if chronic ones, then those should also be described, with this added question:

5. When did the problem start, what appeared to trigger it, and what stress was she under at the time?

If it seems a constitutional prescription needs to be made, a lot more information would have to be gathered, with the added benefit that such a prescription would improve her health on all levels including in respect to future problems.

Thanks for responding.

1. she said it is a sharp pain in her heel, front and sides of her foot. She also said that it 'cracks' when she walks/moves it.

2. walking, especially stairs, exercise and when she sleeps 'funny' on it (her other foot pressing on it) makes it worse

3. Nothing so far makes it feel better.

4. She couldn't describe any other symptoms, but I have noticed that she seems a little whiny and is sad about having to miss swimming.

5. She has been under stress as she just started high school (9th grade), intense swim team practices and she was upset by the news of my pregnancy/new sibling due in the spring. She seems to be adjusting to this news now, but at first she was very upset by it (late Aug/early Sept)

Sharp like what exactly - can she describe that a bit more?

Which direction on stairs causes the problem - up or down?

Is it any kind of walking that aggravates it - fast, slow, heavy etc?

What kind of exercise causes pain - any movement or only specific ones?

What about the pressure of other things apart from her other foot - shoes and socks for example?

What has been the exact stress at school, or in swimming practice? How does she express this, and how does she react to it?

What kind of upset did the news of your pregnancy have on her? What did she say exactly?

1. both up and down

2. all walking aggrivates

3. kicking when swimming hurts it. She hasn't been doing other exercise.

4. No-she feels better with a brace/sock on.

5. Before starting school she was scared-going from a very small school to a high school of 2500 where she knew only 3 other people. She now is doing well and has made a lot of friends, but still the stress of intense 2x/day workouts, meets that go late and trying to get homework done has 'wiped her out'. She appears tired most of the time. But she says she likes school and swimming and was very sad to take a break.

6. When she heard of my pregnancy she completely lost it. She cried for 2-3 days and went to stay at my sister's house for the night because she had to get away from us. She couldn't even look at or talk to her dad or I for 2 days. When she finally agreed to talk, she said she thought we were 'replacing' her since she would be going to college in a few years, she was scared that our relationship would change, she was worried we would take 'her' money for college for the baby and though we were stupid for letting it happen. She now seems ok about it and is now open to talking about it with us and other people and brings up ideas about names for the baby.

oops I forgot about sharp pain--she said it feels like it is being hit by a baseball bat.

Just to add to the symptoms. She has been having stomach pains, diarrhea and nausea for the past 2 days. She's been in bed most of the time and weepy.

Ok, try getting Bellis perrenis (Bell-p) 200c, and give her the remedy according to these instructions:

INSTRUCTONS FOR SPLIT DOSING

Firstly, you need to create a separate dosing bottle. Get a bottle with a dropper, 15-30mls in size, and fill it with a mixture of water and alcohol (5 parts to 1 part). Dissolve 2 granules or 2 drops of the medicine you bought from the pharmacy into this mixture. Your doses will be made from this bottle.

Hit the bottle firmly against the palm of your hand, or another elastic surface like a book. It should be a firm hit not a tap. 2 hits is enough to begin with, and should not be increased unless it is clear that it is needed. The water in this bottle will 'remember' the number of times you have hit it, so that subsequent doses will be stronger (necessary to overcoming the resistance of your disease).

Place 1 drop into an amount of water - start using 1/4 cup (62mls). Stir thoroughly and take 1 teaspoon into the mouth. Throw the rest of the cup away.

This is one dose. Repeat doses would be started from the 2 hits on the bottle.

Each step of this process can be adjusted to reduced aggravation or to increase the effect of the medicine. In order to be able to do this, it is important to measure each step (count the hits, the drops, measure the water etc).

Give her one dose only to begin with and report the response after 3 days.

thank you so much. I will try it with her and let you know.

Her ankle is better. She reports pain only in her ankle bone on the side, when before it was all over (front, back, sides). She says it still hurts when going up and down stairs but not as much. She has had diarrhea all week and stomach cramping/pain.

nmpgordon last decade
Is the diarrhea and stomach pain something she normally gets or has had a problem with in the past?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Nope. She generally is more on the constipated side (BM every couple days) and I can't remember her ever having diarrhea this much. It is better today. She has perked up and has been able to eat more.

Well it will be interesting to see if her bowel habit normalizes now. That would imply the remedy has gone quite deeply.
