Cognitive problems, seeking help!

Hi, I'm new here. If anyone has some time I could really use some help. My doctors are useless and I can't think or concentrate. I shouldn't have senile dementia at age 43! :-(

If it's helpful did the Remedy Finder and came up with Lycopodium clavadum first, Nux vomica second, but they only match half my symptoms. I don't want to mess up and take the wrong stuff.

Here is one of the many questionnaires floating about the site.

Gender: F
Age: 43
Body Type: Pitta
Height: 5' 8'
Weight: 165 lb
General appearance: long blond hair, dress casually but neatly,
Have you used homeopathic medicines before? If so what, and what homeopathic potencies did you use? My acupuncturist gave me Attenticin tablets. It helps when symptoms are mild but not when they are severe.

Ingredients (Liquid Ingredient, Potency): Argentum Nitricum (Silver Nitrate) 12X, 30X; Conium maculatum (Poison Hemlock) 6X; Ignatia amara (St. Ignatius' Bean) 6X, 12X, 30X, 200X, 1000X; Kali Phosphoricum (Potassium Phosphate) 12X; Lachesis (South American Viper Venom) 12X; Lycopodium clavatum (Club Moss) 6X, 12X, 30X, 200X; Moschus (Musk) 12X; Picricum Acidum (Picric Acid) 6X; Sambucus nigra (Elder) 4X; Scutellaria lateriflora (Skull Cap) 6X; Staphysagria (Stavesacre) 6X; Veratum album (White Hellebore) 4X.

1. Describe your main suffering?
My mind is cloudy. People call it 'brain fog' which is pretty descriptive. I forget things, can't come up with words in conversation. I make math errors, have trouble adding up my bank slip. It's like I can't hold the numbers in my head - they slip away from me. I will drive somewhere and get lost on familiar streets because I forgot that I turned. Suddenly I am driving with no idea where I turned last or what street I am on. I do typically remember where I was trying to go. I will wander a grocery store in confusion - I can't organize my trip and get around the store efficiently. I think of one thing, get it. Then try to remember the next thing I need. (I invariably forget a shopping list.) There is profound apathy when I am like this and I don't care about things that would normally matter. I don't care about my music, don't care that I am not getting much done at work, don't want to read email or really participate in the world at all. Concentrating is very difficult and I find it hard to read or learn new things. I tend to fritter away time. Sometimes I have days where my mind is at 90%, maybe one or two days a week, but there is always that niggling difficulty focusing. Other days my mind is useless. My aucupuncturist suggested singing and it does help a little. Acupuncture helps too, for a day or two. The concentration problems are intensely frustrating and sometimes I get depressed because of them.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?

I am a little dizzy and light-headed much of the time. It intensifies when the memory and concentration problems are bad. I have a sensation of turning slightly or spinning, usually to the left. Sometimes I have to grab hold of something when I stand to stabilize myself. I fell the other week. I haven't found anything that gives me any relief.

I am sometimes tired, not wanting to do much. On bad days I am sleepy and will want an afternoon nap but I don't fall asleep if I lie down. Often the tiredness is present when I wake up in the morning and I will be done sleeping but I don't want to get out of bed. (I do sleep deeply at night, usually 8 hours.) In the evening I will want to veg in front of the TV instead of go out.

I sometimes have a clump of symptoms that seem to come on together. I have a sense of a tight band around my head, from the back of my skull around temples to the front. Sometimes there is mild pain at the back of my head or at temples but the sensation is usually pressure. Rubbing the sore area helps, or I can take a Tylenol. Associated with the head pressure, there is often a metallic taste that goes away when I have food and a real taste in my mouth. Not too long after I eat it returns, nothing in particular helps it. Sometimes there is a faint ringing/buzzing sound in my ears that comes with the tightness. My eyes might not focus very well and sometimes sunlight is painfully bright. I have no idea what triggers this clump of symptoms. Being in a quiet room that isn't too bright and something to distract me helps. I have had migraines all my life and the feeling is similar, but without the nausea and headache.

My digestion is only good when I avoid gluten, dairy, and nightshades. I have been gluten-sensitive all my life but the dairy and nightshade problems are new since 2010. I get nausea and diarrhea and the concentration problems intensify if I eat them.

I have had rosacea for 5 or 6 years, redness on my cheeks that gets worse with the heat of the shower, with exercise, or with alcohol. It feels like my cheeks on either side of my nose are tingling, warm, or burning slightly and the skin gets red. Once every week or two I get three or four tiny, painful pimples on my chin. Neem lotion is helping all the skin things but I mention them for thoroughness.

I have always had mild asthma. When it flares, the sensation is a tightness in my chest, or if I breathe deeply I cough. The asthma has been better since I stopped eating much grain this fall in an attempt to feel better.

I crave sugar in the evenings, sometimes fiercely. I can have a little but if I give in to the craving and eat a big candy bar, I will be very tired the next morning. I don't buy candy or sweets much.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
All this started summer 2010, not long after an H1N1 vaccine. I had thyroid trouble, thought it was the source of the mental problems but my doctor says I'm on enough thyroid medicine now. I still can't think straight so I'm getting desparate.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
It's a little better in the evenings sometimes.

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same? Example- time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.
The fog seems to come and go of its own accord, often starts 20 min after breakfast, sometimes worsens after lunch. It doesn't seem to matter much what I eat and anything more than a snack can set it off. Once I'm 'fogged in' it rarely improves for the day.

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
I am perimenopausal and wondering about that.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
I feel better during warm, dry weather. I have always gotten tired when it rains, and I am tending to feel cold.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
When I feel normal I am relaxed and outgoing, sometimes a little arrogant. I have a very fact-based outlook and tend to focus mostly on information rather than people. Sometimes this is seen as cold but I don't mean it that way. When I feel ill, I am irritable, moody, lethargic, and want nothing to do with other people.
- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?
I always loved the moments before a thunderstorm when I was a child. There are no thunderstorms in my area so I don't know how it would affect my condition.
- Do you like being consoled during your tough times?
Generally I want to be alone.
- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?
Loud noise hurts my ears. Light is ok, except as mentioned above.
- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
Weeping, talking to one self etc?
Twisting my hair.
- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?
I am single. I am close telephone friends with Mom and Dad, though Mom can be difficult in person. I love my brother, sister-in-law, and two nephews deeply and I don't get to see them enough.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?
I'm afraid of not recovering and that the mental problems are pearmanent. I don't remember my dreams much. Sometimes I am being chased by a dark man with a gun and running from gunfire.

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions?
I crave refined sugar often, which I mostly ignore because I feel tired and ill if I eat too much sugar. I also crave chocolate so I eat 70% dark to satisfy the chocolate craving and limit the amount of sugar. I don't really have food aversions. I'm one of those 'eat anything' sort of people. Sometimes I have a mild aversion to foods that are sour with vinegar, though I love fermented foods like sauerkraut.

13. Thirst is slightly less.

14. Hunger is more than it used to be, but I am eating grain-free so it may be simply that I need to eat more food than I'm accustomed to in order to have enough calories.

15. Gluten is poison for me. Dairy and nightshades seem to make me tireder right now.

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs? Sweat is normal. I sweat more on trunk when I exercise.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type? Been regular, comfortable stools, twice a day like clockwork since I went off dairy and grains.

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
I sleep well, usually around 8 hours. I sleep on my side with a body pillow tucked between my arms and legs.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?
Yes, though my sex drive is pretty low.

20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others?
Not sure how to answer this. Everyone is different, no?

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?
I am on thyroid medicine, can't change that. I tried rhodiola and didn't notice much of anything. Same lack of response with feverfew. I was thinking maybe it was migraine-related. Acupuncture is helping.

22. What major diseases are running in your family?
Cardiovascular disease at advanced age. My mom also has thyroid issues, dad has lots of allergies.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance.
Tall, long blond hair, hazel eyes, fair skin though cheeks are often reddish. Medium build and I'm curvy. I could stand to lose 5 lb but I basically look OK.

24. If your menstrual cycles are not normal, please describe the irregularities, like pains, moods, flow type, clots etc.
I get migraines with my menses and feel generally tired. I am on birth control pills timed to spread them out and get fewer peroids.

25. What major diseases have you had in your life and when. Please write them in a chronological manner.
Nothing major, all more chronic stuff.
Celiac disease
Asthma
Thryoid disease
Migraines
Depression (from thryoid disease and celiac)

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please take three doses of Thuja 200 as follows and see how that affects in 15 days(only 3 doses in 15 days).

day 1 morning
1st dose

day 1 evening
2nd dose

day 2 morning
3rd dose

One dose means
If the medicine is in pills form 2 pills. Don't touch pills with hand. Use cap of bottle to take pills.
If the medicine is in liquid dilution form, 1 drop in some 20 ml water. Sip up slowly.

Please follow homeo restrictions like no coffee, no raw onion/garlic, no strong perfumes, don't eat or drink anything within 30 minutes before or after taking medicine.

If there is no substantial relief in 15 days, please take three doses of Lycopodium 200 in the same way and report back after another 15 days.
