white bumps in throat

I was happy to see I am not the only person to suffer from these awful things. I have to admit I am a picker and have irritated my throat trying to dislodge this buggers. But I wanted to share what happend to me when I went to the Doc's the other day cause it felt like I had someting in my throat. Deeper down not on the tonsils. He said all my symptoms sounded like Gird. And I asked im about the white bumps whic he replied "you are stuck with those" "But" I asked, could the Gird be causeing them? He said it was a posabilaty. Girg is caused by acid reflux and you could have acid reflux and not know it. I ave only felt it briefly. But it can cause seriouse problems if gone unchecked.I also had a small mouth ulser wich he suspected was herpes. Te blister has been coming and going in the same spot for two months. It is possible that these other two things going on in my mout have caused the stones to more friguent lately. I am now on acid reducers and an anti virel med. So I will see if it reduces them. But as far as te gird thing I feel tis has been a main contributer to mine. If gone unchecked it can lead to some huge problems. So if you feel like you have something stuck lower in your throat and your throat is dry,and drinking and eating releave for a bit go see your doc please. youe esoghagus can be subject to damage thatyou might not be able to fix.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I, too thought I was a 'special case' in this matter. In my situation I have had white patches on my tonsils come and go in the same spots for about 4 months. Doctors have not been able to diagnose me and won't/can't do tonsillectomy because my situation is not severe enough to warrant it. I have had tried every method to rid of th gunk so I can have a normal looking throat again. Whatever that is. It's been so long I forgot what my throat looked like before all this.

It's funny you mentioned the gerd. The last ENT I went to sent me home with pamphlets on acid reflux and the like. I just hate the thought of taking acid reducers without knowing for sure what the cause is. I just don't want a whole new set of problems somewhere else in my body down the road caused by me just trying to rid of the problem in my throat, ya know.

I find the above comments very interesting (I too had wondered if the "stones" had ever been analysed). I do not believe that the stones are a result of any accumulation of "goop" in the tonsil pits - I can (and do!) examine the pits in both of my tonsils by using my tongue and the stones emerge from within the tonsil flesh into the tonsil pits. I often locate a "tip" of a stone which by "teasing" with my tongue I can provoke the release of a the larger stone (which can be pretty large). I can sometimes provoke the release of a stone by stimulating just the outside of a tonsil with my tongue - the stone is released and I can then remove it easily from the pit it is released into by using my tongue. The colour, texture and smell of the stones varies but they definitely do not form in the pits themselves.

Hi,

I suffered from white bumps in my throat for over 3 yrs. So I completely know how everyone feels in this forum. The correct term for these white bumps in the throat are tonsil stones.

I’ve tried everything, my doctor initially thought it was an infection and prescribed me antibiotics. That didn’t help at all. I then went to see a Throat Specialist, he told me tonsil stones are very common. Most people have got them, but they don’t notice it because they just swallow it. The reason why people get the balls stuck at the back of your throat, is because when you eat, food gets stuck in the tiny holes called the tonsil crypts.

So over time, the tiny holes (tonsil crypts) in your tonsils get filled up with bacteria and food particles which then become smelly. There is one way of removing the bumps in your throat, use a water jet syringe and squirt the water onto the white bump. But that’s only a temporary relief, because it will grow again.

I’ve seen 2 naturopaths and 1 homeopath about my problem, but they couldn’t help either. I have to say I have spent almost $800, just seeing naturopaths and specialists.

A few months ago, a friend introduced me to this berry juice called the Himilayan Goji Juice. I’ve been taken it for a few months now, and my tonsil stones have completely gone! Its just unbelievable, the juice is made up of a berry called Goji (Lycium Barbarum). You may not have heard of Goji before, but it has been used in traditional Asian medicine remedies for generations.

What encouraged me to give it a try is that it is formulated by the Nutritionist Dr Earl Mindell, the man who wrote the Vitamin Bible, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

I really think you should try this juice, as it has certainly helped me. I drink 30mls everyday in the morning. Here is the website, give it a try.

Let me know if it helped you too!

Anyone ever consider the possibility of the white patches being a yeast infection aka oral thrush?

i have been suffering from this since 2nd grade... i am a sophmore in college now... i was told that they are food deposits that get stuck in the tonsil creases... honestly i dont believe it... they come in various sizes and the smell is ridiculous... sometime i swallow them by accident... does anyone who have them also have breathing or snoring problems?? i jus want to remove my tonsils once and for all.
