$ 1.9 Billion pledged to fight Bird Flu

You would no doubt have read this news today on TV and the News Media of the response of many nations meeting in China for funds to fight the Bird Flu before it becomes a pandemic.

It is generally accepted that the only anti flu vaccine available today is Tamiflu which is manufactured by Roche. This vaccine has been used and tested in many countries but the results have not been positive at all, as some of the patients especially children who used it as a prophylactic in Japan and Cambodia have died even without contact with poultry.

I believe that this very large sum of money that has been pledged by the donor countries will be spent on trying to discover and to test drugs and vaccines to prevent and treat Bird Flu.

The purpose of my post today is to inquire if a small amount of this money can be obtained and used to promote tests of Homeopathic remedies like Influenzinum, and Oscillococcinum to name only two that I have used, and others that can be identified as a prophylactic, to test whether they can be used against this Bird Flu which has now reached many countries. It will be necessary that these remedies are distributed free to the people who are directly in contact with poultry especially in areas that this Flu has struck and that records are maintained by homeopaths of the results of their use. Statistics can be collected as to the efficacy of various Homeopathic Remedies to provide prophylactic cover to the people at risk.

I live in Sri Lanka where we have not been affected by this Bird Flu so far. It is interesting to record that I used Influenzinum 200 as a prophylactic against the usual flu prevalent at the end of the year when about 10% of the population succumb to the flu and the results were interesting. I reported my experience over two consecutive years on this forum with about 150 people who are working in our organization who were offered Influenzinum 200 which they first took on a voluntary basis in Novenber 2004 and by popular demand last year when they discovered that this remedy did in fact provide prophylaxis against the flu prevalent at the end of the year.

I would suggest that International Homeopathic Organizations like Homeopaths Without Borders contact the WHO or the UNO for the funding to carry out these tests, as I believe that the voice of Homeopathy will be heard at that level. I would commend that my suggestion to carry out these tests will evoke some response on the part of those who can lobby these world bodies and that some positive action will result in identifying a Homeopathic Remedy that can be used to provide prophylaxis against the Bird Flu.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Dear Joe.
Your proposal is an absolute and necessary solution of handling today's bird flu problem.I wish our senior homeopaths would take this up and implement it as an action plan...

The world needs homeopathy today more than ever...

The past performance of homeopathic medicines in the last bird flu of 1917-18 are self indicative of homeopathy's success..

The chances of getting ANY of this money for crackpot schemes like homeopathy are millions to one.

Be serious.

WE believe that the world needs homeopathy , but we are the only ones.

Your post seems ambiguous to me.

On the one hand you state:
"crackpot schemes like homeopathy"
and on the other you state:
"WE believe that the world needs homeopathy , but we are the only ones."

I am aware that you are a homeopath and it would be good to clarify your stand on this important matter as it may appear to the casual visitor to this thread that you are against any funding to be allocated to identifying a Homeopathic prophylactic remedy for the Bird Flu.

Yes it is true that it is only we homeopaths who believe in homeopathy ... but on the other hand we may not need any kind of funding to even a bare minimum of that extent...so we are not dependent on any of these "crackpots" ..

Joe, what i had in mind was that if we could persuade any of the wellknown companies making homeopathic medicines to produce a nosode from those affected by recent bird flu, I am sure we can obtain and distribute this remedy at our usual nominal charges or freely to those who believe in homeopathy...

The company should also be prepared to develop a nosode when, God forbid, the virus mutuates into one which can be transmitted between humans...We have to be prepared..

What do you think?

I had not thought of your idea of producing a nosode from one who has had the chicken flu and I feel that this is an excellent idea.

However you must know that all this will involve funding and a lot of hard work on the part of dedicated scientists. Since this problem affects us all, it may be just as well that the International Homeopathic associations take steps to ask for funding to carry out the production and subsequent testing of the nosode in areas that are affected by the flu.

This process of experimentation must be accepted as essential as all the funding that has gone so far into the production of the antidote to this flu seems to have been in vain as the product, Tamiflu does not seem to have lived up to its original expectations.

Thanks for your appreciation, Joe..

You have exactly outlined the implementation plan which I referred to in my first response to your posting....

We all hope the Homeopathic Associations are listenting to our comments and proposals...
