I wonder if anyone knows if it's ok to give cats pedialite. The cashier once told me that some people give their dogs pedialite when they are sick. I had gone in there to buy sherbert to hydrate my dog when she refused to eat. And it always worked. If I could get her to eat the sherbert, she would then eat.

Ploutos,

I urge you not to give up yet. The fact that Dafni comes and asks for food means that SHE hasn't given up...

I think she will let you know when she has had enough.

Homeopathy and other alternative therapies can be very useful, but sometimes Western medicine can help, too, especially when it comes to diagnosing disease. I think you should go back to your vet and ask him how you can determine what is wrong with her (i.e. what could you learn from blood tests). If you are not happy with his answer, go to someone else. If you are able to find out what is going on with DAfni, you can proceed with what you decide is the best therapy, alternative or not.

Sending good energy to you and Dafni.

Hello Ploutos

It is possible that the antibiotics contributed to making Dafni lose her appettite and to dehydrate her. This happened to my dog. Once when I took antibiotics as a teenager, I couldn't eat because I felt full.

THIS IS FROM AN EARLIER THREAD HERE AT ABC:

Before I knew anything about homeopathy, I always gave acidiphilus to my dog whenever I gave her antibiotics. However, one time I didn't do this and he got so very sick I had to take him to the emergency room in the middle of the night where he was administered IV because he was so dehydrated.

OK guys - first, I only gave her two doses of antibiotics a few days ago and not since - I just returned with some organic chicken broth, mixed it into the organic chicken baby food with a little extra virgin olive oil and made a really nice thick slush.

Well, I have her in the window now, breathing in fresh air and taking in some sun so I don't want to disturb her tranquility yet until the sun goes down - then, I will do what I did before - syringe, but a little bit at a time - she licked and licked and swallowed - I petted and stroked and soothed her with my voice - and she did not "dart" - so perhaps she liked it and that is what I will try -

By the way, you CAN give animals pedialite or gatoraide - problem is the pedialite comes in a pack of 12 or so so I got gatoraide which you must dilute for an animal.

Also, menou, the doctors say that the thickening of the walls of her lower and small intestine are the issue - it is not a "blockage" but rather a thickening - and, I was told in oder to fully diagnose that it is or is not cancer is to do a biopsy - but, I do not want to put a 14 year old cat through that - and, if it is the big "C" well, I would put her to sleep.

So, I am trying process of elimination - let's hope this baby food mixture does the trick and I also checked out hydration - I will take her tomorrow morning and do it at home thereafter if needed.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

We are saying goodnight to all our aunties and uncle John.... smooches from Dafni, Boubou and Dimitra.

Hello everyone: It's mommy - just one question - I do have food grade hydrogen peroxide and I know that it is fabulous for all health issues including cancer - I have read so much on it over time.

I have put about 5 drops or more into the cats' water bowl (it's about 1 1/2 quarts of filtered water) for a number of months now, on and off. Perhaps that was not enought HP for that much water.

I was thinking, should I do a small dilution in a syringe and give it individually to Dafni and Boubou?

Does anyone have any experience with HP?

Tomorrow I will take Dafni to the vet for hydration and then get the supplies to do it myself at home.

Thanks and good night and wishing you all "sweet dreams"..

Pat - hope you had a great time at the dance.

Hello Ploutos

I have used hydrogen peroxide myself many years ago. It was recommended to me by the woman at the health food store for Candida. Candida is what happens when antibiotics kill the good and absolutely necessary bacteria in the intestines. It only takes one dose or one capsule of antibiotics to cause damage to this nice bacteria.

The yeast that gets out of control due to the absence of the nice bacteria, does not like oxygen (hydrogen peroxide). So I think it can help your kitties

To this day, I do not know whether or not it helped me recover because I was also taking acidophilus and garlic in large quantities.

At this time I think the most important thing is to hydrate Dafni in whatever way you can. Don't do any thing too drastic that could add to her problems right now.

Once she is a little better, you can think about giving her the drops of hydrogen peroxide.

Hope you can get an appointment first thing in the morning. Make several calls if you have to.

Are you managing to get her to drink the Gatorade?

Have a good night and I sent you all prayers and more Reiki.

DAFNI HAS DIED

DAFNI IS NOW IN HEAVEN

I got up at 5:30 to go to the bathroom - I found her on the floor, DEAD, by the litter box. She was hard as a rock.

I wrapped her in a towel and put her in a garbage bag.

I have made arrangements to have her picked up - she will be cremated, with me in attendance and a final chance to say goodbye.

I have lost kitties before, but always have had to put them to sleep - never, NEVER a shock like this. I will NEVER FORGET IT!

The poor thing kept coming over to me, looking up at me, and asking me for something - or just perhaps telling me, "I don't feel well, help me".....

I had tried force feeding her, but nothing. The vet said she probably died soon after I went to sleep at 1:00 AM because the body was already stiff.

So, we want to thank you all for your concern and special thanks to Uncle John from Little Dafni - he will always be remembered.

DAFNI SAYS "GOODBYE
MY FRIENDS"

Hello Ploutos

I am so sorry that Dafni has left us.

Maybe it was her time to go. As far as what I understand most living things pass away naturally and without much suffering and without the need to be put to sleep.

I truely think it was her time to go.

Will send you more prayers to help you through this very difficult time and to help Dafni leave in peace.

Ploutos,

I'm so sorry.

Be thankful she left on her own, at home and near you.

I'm sure you gave her a wonderful life here for 14 years and for that I know she is grateful.

Take care
Menou

Really sorry. Know how it feels. I believe all animals go to heaven - so while we suffer the loss, they are finally through with suffering.
god bless.
